I'm going to take a guess and say the percentage of votes Vettel has in this thread will be the percentage of total wins he takes this season.:sly:

100% agree there, the car is the chink in his armour. In a couple of threads people have been saying about how the 2012 car (however ugly) is very fast but just unreliable. As many in this thread have said though nobody can make a real guess/prediction until Melbourne but I'll stick with my guess based on the reports from practice so far.

Unreliable is okay, you can work on that. if the car is slow out of the box, its hard to come back from that. A fast yet unreliable car won the 2010 championship. who just missed that championship? Alonzo. i choose him not because i am a fan (Button is my guy) but bwcause he has been close the last few years and just misses out. i think a driver with his talent is due

Alonso is defiantly a guy to watch out for, however much of a wild card he is. Unreliability is fixable, if you've built a slow car then you don't have time to change anything now and will fall behind early on. The "normal" nose on the Mclaren and marussa is something to look out for too. It could be a help or a hindrance and melbourne will be the proving grounds.

Who I..

'm expecting to win: Sebastian Vettel

want to win: Fernando Alonso

Want to win: Rubens Barrichello

... Why on earth is Romain Grosjean in this list?

He's on the top 5 team that have a chance to win the championship according to all review I've read. That's why he's here. Massa have 0 chance like webber for me but they still made in the list. I thought that putting the 5 best team drivers in the list was the best thing to do. And Grosjean went faster than Raikkonen in Valence, then it was the contrary on Montmello so yeah.

What chance? Lotus is nowhere near the front-runners. Sure, Grosjean went faster than Raikkonen in testing in Barcelona, but it's generally accepted that testing times don't mean anything.

Maybe i missed something. Why does Webber not have a chance now, given he's sitting in what will probably be the fastest car on the grid again? Because he had a bad season compared to vettel last yet? - so did everyone else.

You dont know where Lotus is actually, unless you have some super info no one knows ?

Ferrari, Mercedes, Mclaren, Red Bull and Lotus are the only teams that stand a chance to be world champion for everyone that I know of. So yeah that's why there driver is there.

Lemanfantastic : Webber and Massa for me are both not qualifed for beeing the new world champion because they got eaten by there co-driver. That means that the team is behind the other driver aka Vettel and Alonso and will not focus on them as they do for there favorite driver. Also psychologicaly they have accepted the domination of the other driver. It was pretty clear last year.

But you know what, if Massa or Webber win it's all good for me, I would be very happy to have been proven wrong but atm I give them 0 chance of beeing world champion.

I want Räikkönen to win, but I'm afraid the local news are very likely exaggerating the Lotus' pace :(

As long as the champion's name isn't Alonso, I'll be OK with it.

Dammit I missed the opening race.:ouch:

And the last 3 seasons or so. They haven't really been on the pace since Alonso left, and weren't that great 2008/9 when he was there.

It's arguable that it's still just a 'big four'; Red Bull, Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes, with Lotus snapping at their heels.

Slightly off-topic, but I'm much more confident of Caterham banking their first point(s) than I am of Lotus challenging for the title.

Personally I would like Hamilton to win but I know that Vettel will win again because he will be pushing for that 3 times world champion

Well to be fair I'd say Lotus have had a faster car then Mercedes for a good part of 2011 and a lot of 2010, it's just when they don't have a good car, they have a bad one instead, there doesn't seem to be a middle ground with them. Oh, and I think Caterham will get more points then Williams this season.

Also, is it weird I think Button will win, not Vettel? Even though I've watched it for the past 3 seasons and know how dominant Vettel can get.

Lotus' performances in testing have been over-stated, mostly by Autosport (because they receive sponsorship for the Autosport International show from Lotus Cars) and Raikkonen's fans who seem to think that two years in rallying and a whole host of rule changes have not dampened his skills.

Petrov will be the world champion in the Caterham

Seriously though, I think Caterham will be a lot better then last year. I'm nearly certain that they'll be in the points. I can't wait to find out though, only another week :)

After qualifying I think it's going to be a close battle between Hamilton and Button, but it's only the first race so we can't draw a proper conclusion.

I'm with you man! I'd love to see Kimi win the World Championship again! 👍

I voted for Schumacher but I think hamilton is the safe bet. Hamilton is the fastest driver, and it seems like he's more focused and mature than ever so I don't see anything getting in his way this year, especially not Massa LOLz

i like how every talks about the drivers and not the actual car. In my mind I'm looking more into which car will be better.

You're thinking more along the lines of the constructor's championship. There are two cars per team, so at some point you have to focus on the individual with regards to the driver's championship.

From the first two races, I see with big possibilities for both Mclarens and maybe both Red Bulls, Mercedes is also close Lotus too, but seen more possible for Button or Hamilton to win the championship since they have the fastest car, even though I'd like to see Alonso winning his third Championship, for me is the most complete driver on the grid, on the last race he show that he still up to the challenge was incredible that he manage to won on that car.

Also Sergio Perez impressed me, on his second year and on the second race of the year and almost P1 really good potential.

But who knows we have 18 races left to see how will make his path to the championship.
