I saw some Haros...didn't like them. I'm not a fan at all of the suspension design...no bottle holder place, if you have the seat down it hits the spring, and it was heavy. My Raleigh is light. Hills are like nothing to pedal up. Jumps great. Curbs are no problem to hop over either. The Raleigh is like a subtle full suspension bike. I love it.
 
Since I have a MAZ forum on here. Jordan's nice and the attempted MAZ at Mazda-talk sucked so he gave me a MAZ forum and ofcourse I mod it and the Automotive forum. It's great.

Er you do know that there is a MAZ forum?

Congrats on the new bike, Maz!! It looks nice...I've never used a mountain bike extensively. I have a road bike that I haven't ridden in five or six years anyway. I should get back on it....as soon as I get it put back together. :lol:
 
Yea you should. It's fun.

My brother didn't ride after he started driving...I guess he just thought that driving takes the place of biking...I don't see it that way at all...biking is recreational, fun, and good exercise.

That's the design I don't like...you see where the seat post is? If you put the seat down, the post hits the spring.

Mine is better. :)
 
I'm talking the spring...the red spring right under the seat post...see that?
 
naa you don't understand! I'm saying if you decide to lower the seat, the bottom of the post hits the suspension. You would have to cut the seat post.
 
Ahh yes, I now understand.

If I need to lower the seatpost, I can chop it down. I race downhill, so it's always at handlebar height anyway.
 
yea. It's just not practical for me cause I'm short. And I'm not too happy with that suspension type as a whole...I've ridden several coil over type bikes(like that one) and they seem bouncy to me...
 
Well, I don't know what kind of rear shocks you have tested, but the one on the Turner is a complete race setup (5 way adjustable). The low end (and some of the middle line) coilover shocks ride like crap, but there has been as much thought gone into the shock on the Turner has there has gone into a Formula 1 shock. The linkage/shock combination on the Turner is the best I have ever seen, as it isolates pedal induced bob while sucking up small bumps. Downhill racers line up to pay well over 2,000 dollars for the frame alone.
 
WOW, you're a special kind of retard arent you? First off, the Turner DH bike is in a league you havent even dreamed about thinking about seeing. It could literally take your bike apart. So dont even try to say that 93SHO's bike is inferior to your 5 year old Raleigh M-POS. I work at a Giant, Raleigh, Redline, Mosh, and Sun Bicycles dealer. You know which bikes we have to do warranty work on all the time? Raleighs. One of the group's riders we crusie with all the time had exactly the same bike as you. He broke the frame completely in half. And it was on a 3 foot jump. Tell me about Raleigh quality.
Something else to get out of the way: You havent ridden Coil over bikes. at least not one that is properly set up. A good Coilover equipped bike has, at the very least, rebound and preload adjustment. Just because a Mongoose doesn't have these features does not mean every bike was created equally. Go try riding a Giant AC-2 in 6.5" travel mode. Tell me what you think.
Before you go attacking everyone else's equipment you should really just step back and look at the big picture. 93SHO in no way said his bike was superior, he was sharing your joy in a new bike. Then you attacked his and claimed it to be inferior.
So tell me this: how can his purpose-built, $2000-frame only Downhill bike be inferior? Because the seat wasn't meant to be raised above minimum insertion and can therefore be cut? Yes, your bike is good for you. We're happy. Go ride off a cliff, and tell me how your suspension reacts. Mine sucks it up, and encourages me to go bigger. Let me know when you top 17 vertical feet, and we'll talk.

my bike is $400 down from $600 and it's quite ok. have to buy a bit of stuff though. one of my friends is pretty weird he says that i shouldn't have got a mountain bike, but i reckon they are better than those little 3 year old size bikes they ride to the bowl (no offense to those proffesional people that do it though). V-Brakes, 21 speed. have to get a kickstand and water-bottle thingy. :)

I didn't say that my bike is better than his, I just said that I didn't like the design and stated reasons. And about the guy braking the frame, he's an idiot, you can clearly see that the M-7000 is not meant to jump. It's meant for trail riding and street riding. I've taken mine down stairs and even jumped it about a foot and a half up, and had no problems at all. For what I do it's exellent. About the warrenty work, that's not entirely Raleigh's fault. Look at any bike, most of the components are from other companies. I don't know about all M-7000s, but mine has Shimano everything and it's exellent.

I haven't ridden more than 3 coil over bikes, so I can't talk about the whole picture. And I wasn't. But fact is, if you are short, the seat post hits the suspension. It just doesn't work for me. Also being a light person, that coulda been why the bikes seemed bouncy.

I know he didn't say his was superior, and I didn't say it was inferior.
Price isn't something I can argue with. My bike came out to $450. For what I do, my $450 bike is just as good at a $2000 bike.

I don't jump off cliffs...there's vertually no cliffs here. I wouldn't do jumping anyway cause I don't like hights. I don't like falling either.

Before you come in here and attack me, please read about the kind of riding I do.

BTW, since you are a Raleigh mechanic(among the others), is there an owner's manuel/warrenty info for my M-7000? I seemed to get the wrong one from the dealer I bought mine at(only mistake they made so it's not a problem)...it's from '97 and doesn't show any of the suspension components or anything...just wondering. Also, how would you suggest getting a fused seat post out of a Giant Iguana(a '91 I think)? My dad tried everything really...a pipe wrench, tryed hammering it loose, even tried sawing down the side to collapse it(he's a Mazda mechanic)...I've heard that heating it up might work, but didn't know if I should try that...I'm trying to fix it up to sell it.

Well folks, Raleigh sucks. After a long time of trying to get the awful rear shock to work correctly, the owner of the bike place we deal with all the time called Raleigh, and they said that they would send out a new shock from California. Then, they lost it. Then, they thought they had another, somewhere. Then they said that if they didn't I'd get a new '99 spec M-7000 frame. Then, they got rude with the shop owner and didn't do anything for me(could be because the shop doesn't sell Raleigh anymore...Mine was an old-stock '98, and the shop owner said that he had seen the same bike as mine with a rear shock problem in the past). So the very nice shop owner said that he would take the bike back and give us our $350 that we paid for it back, and then we could buy a new bike. So we did.

And now I ride this:

It's a 2003 Giant Warp DS3. Awsome bike. Haven't had a lot of riding time, just got it tonight. While it's the design I first claimed that didn't work right(where the seat post hits), this one is different, and with the seat post cut and the right hight, it's absolutely perfect.
Cost us $599 all laid out, with speedometer on order(left over from my Raleigh, when we thought the bike would be fixed) for free. It only cost us $264 since we got the $350 back from the Raleigh. And it's tons better. The Raleigh was a 21 speed, with about 3" of akward travel in the rear, and base model Rock Shocks.

I don't like disc brakes. The brakes on it now are great. Plus disc brakes add a lot to the price...

Have you ever ridden a bike with disc brakes? I used to ride Specialized Rockhoppers, and Stumpjumpers, and then I went to an Epic Disc, and I'll never go back to riding a bike w/out discs again.👍
