As a fervent and steadfast supporter of the Gran Turismo series, I am impartial to many of its quirks and idiosyncracies (a number of which I myself participate in). However, one such aspect of gameplay that seems to have developed with Gran Turismo's latest iteration is the acquisition of "0/0/0" cars. Now, I understand the meaning of the term, though despite this I cannot even begin to comprehend exactly what value at all it has to people of the community.

While 0 miles is a precious commodity in cars in real life, I don't realize the significance that it carries in-game. Of course cars' performance decreases as they are used, though this does not really apply unless it is used extremely frequently, and even then it can be remedied with many types of maintenance offered in-game. And besides, isn't the whole point of the game to use the cars to win races? Am I missing something here?
But beyond mileage, what confuses me is the 0 win and 0 switch requirements people have with their cars. Again, isn't winning races a positive aspect of Gran Turismo 5? And exactly how does switching depreciate the value of a vehicle? I am simply dumbfounded here.

But regardless of stance, please do not take this the wrong way. I do not resent any of you who are "0/0/0 fanatics", I am simply curious as to why you are so unyielding in your faithful quest to own a virtual museum of cars that you really can't do anything with. Thank you for your help.

I don't get it either, it must be the same sort of thing as them rich people who buy the best supercars and just put them in a garage, never using them!

i.e. Strange People!!!

Wow. Now I'm embarrassed. How did I miss that? Thanks, in any case.

Though I really wanted to hear the story from a first-person perspective. Even after reading the entire thread you presented, my question still remains the same; why are 0/0/0 so desirable? People can provide interpretations, but I would like to hear it from a collector themselves.

I only ask for them when I'm looking for a certain car with low miles.

For example, a 70's muscle car is almost always going to have like 100k+ miles out of the UCD, and thats some extreme HP lost forever. So I ask for 0/0/0 so i can maximize the performance.

From a car collecting perspective, its strictly 'prestige' .. whats better? a car with 1/468678/8 or 0/0/0? its just worth more, its more desireable.

Although I think the people who go after every car, 0/0/0, in every color, probably suffer from some type of obsessive compulsive disorder

Well i collect 0/0/0 and simply the main reason I started is because I was getting turned down for trades as I couldn't not supply 0/0/0 cars.

Now For me personally it's a sort of hobby and keeps the game alive. I got to level 40 on A and B spec a long time and if I wasn't trading and collecting cars I don't think I would still be loading gt up very often at all.

All pretty pointless I agree and maybe a little OCD but why not!

Doesn't surprise me, but thank you all, what you've said makes sense. Although I sure as hell won't be following the same trend anytime soon (as I prefer using all my cars), now I can at least walk into a trade knowing exactly why the guy wants a 0/0/0 Daihatsu Midget II in Hot Pink, rather than simply knowing that he wants a 0/0/0 Daihatsu Midget II in Hot Pink and leaving me to scratch my head in confusion.

@XPLOSV i agree and i am not joking either, for many reasons but the simplest reasons are 2
1-there is no real value whats so ever, let alone the in game value that you cant sell some cars, you cant trade others, and the cars that you can sell GT5 isnt paying you back according to mileage...
2-In a year or so (ok maybe more) the GT5 save will be useless.
