Why all the moaning about Seasonal Events?

I have been reading these forums for a while, but am new to posting but I had to say something about all the moaning about the Seasonal Events...

Now, I am no evangelist for PD, GT5 is unfinished, but people need to read the News Posts more clearly. Firstly, the original News item regarding the Seasonal Events said that new events would generally be added on thursdays +/- one day. When has generally meant always? If they miss a week they aren't "lying to us blah blah", there might be a good reason for the weeks break (bug fixing, updates etc.??). They said generally for a good reason.

Secondly, there were new events added last week - the Time Trails and the Drift Trails. New events don't always mean 5 lap races with bucket loads of creds and xp.! Season Events are events in the broadest terms - additional, time limited content. People have just assumed things and then moaned when they haven't got their own way - and you know what they say ... don't assume things, it only makes an ass out of u and me!

We are three months into a game (notice I said game, it ain't real life!) that may be continually updated with new content etc. for the next 2 years, maybe on a weekly basis and people are carping on about whey can't we have this and that - things take time ... patience is a virtue.

Man I hear you, but honestly don't bother. Enjoy the game for what it is and don't worry about what other people do here, because no matter how good a point you make or how or flawless your logic may be, they will be too stubborn to even try and understand another point of view. Save yourself the effort. In fact, I will try to save others the effort.

Fanboys: Don't like it don't play.
Haters: Who are you to tell me how to play MY game, PD owes me!
Complainers: *insert random insigificant thing here* is broken, @$%& PD!!!
Complainers about complainers: Stop complaining! Live with what you have.
Regular People: Too busy enjoying actually playing the game to bother with these forums.

+1 to those posts, it really bugs me that people are annoyed at PD for these apparently constant seasonal events every Thursday.
it seems as though people are trying to find ways to complain about PD. Last time i heard, they only had 150 or so people working for them, hence the 5 years in development, which is quite a feat in my opinion seeing as call of duty has over 4000.
I think that people are looking to much into what they say, for example the word 'generally', people have almost taken that and changed the meaning to make it seem 'without fail'.
If only people could see that PD are trying to please us with updates and constant news feeds for free.

Whawww!!! Why doesn't the world revolves around ME!!! Why doesn't people play the way I want them to!!! I am a customer and I paid $60!!! Whawww!!!

hahahahaha 👍 👍 👍 👍

Also must add the classic "what if (insert a crazy feature that u allucinate in intense-beer-night) where included in next patch" and several irrealistic "wishlist" (I wish next gt series come "pre winned" when you install, and you own all cars all CR. all XP and no need to grind dupe o play)

Err...your point being?? I am not telling anybody how to play - I am pointing out that if you read the News post correctly, some of the Seasonal Events criticism is unfounded. Do what you like with your game - personally, I am going to enjoy mine.

PS. Matt-FM1 and x3n0n1x - thanks for the support, sometimes it makes my eyes wobble!!!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

PPS. I am not going to get into any sort of argument over this - I have said my piece...

{EDIT}

Ignore this post....!

I wasn't talking about you. Sorry if I came across that way. I was talking about the whole 36 pages of seasonal event being too easy/difficult/strict/not strict/early/late/too much XP/not enough XP/too much credit/not enough credit and the other 128 threads on how you are not playing the game according to my vision posts everywhere else.

I am actually agreeing with you.

My apologies - sometimes it is difficult to read irony/sarcasm/nuance (delete as applicable!) on a computer screen! Ignore the above post...

I agree with you too, my comment was in the same way that NYyellowTaxi.

I'm going to use my first post here to echo the sentiment.

Between the A-spec, B-spec, Special Events, License tests, Seasonal Events, remote B-spec racing, online racing, I've already squeezed more than $60 worth of fun out of GT5.

Everything else is gravy.

Sure, everyone gets something different out of games, but the lack of imagination to create your own challenges with what's already been provided is almost funny. Just because you've already got the gold trophy on some race doesn't mean you can't go back and try it again with a different car with less upgrades to make it more challenging. Even if we only got new Seasonal events once a month, it would still be more free new content than most if not all games give you.

no new seasonal's yet!?! wtf PD i paid $60 plus the world revolves around me! i better get some SE tomorrow!

i don't want the SE's...just give me DLC...but only if they are all painted in gold chrome and have 2455 horsepower engines...and automatically have racing softs on them.

And what about drop-down menu for "Give Me Credits Amount" and "Give Me XP Amount" where player could easily arbitrary choose desired amount of Cr/XP to be given to him?

I mean, people payed 60$ for the game for Gods sake.

Nah. Just implement the "Give Me XXX Car" drop down menu and people will be happy.

Oh wait... it's not the color they want...

It's like this: You can think the phrase, "I am not talking," and it is true. Once you speak it, you just look silly.

I agree 100% with this thread, especially the first two posts. The only real reason I check GT Planet is for updates/changes. I get sucked in to some of the crap sometimes, but I need to distance myself from that. GT5 has been loads of fun, and it's the only game that has been in my PS3 since the night it came out (a few blue-ray movies have found their way in at times since my surround sound is hooked up through the PS3).

Oh wait... it's not the color they want...
It also has more than 0 miles, haha.

all the complaining on forums reminds me of being offered a complimentary drink, but sending it back cause its not your favourite brand...

people need to stop moaning and just play it for what it is....constructive criticism however, is what PD have been listening to...:)

Im moaning cos pd made a great racing simulation game and half wrecked it by been creative as a half dead duck, who honestly wants to do the new seasonal events? and more importantly who cant win them? most of the people on this thread probably 👍

Yeah. I don't like this free regular seasonal events and updates either. What's the point if it's not what I want? Historic cars event? I don't want to race historic cars. I know most people out there would enjoy it. But what about ME! Why won't PD listen to ME and deliver what I want?

I am special and unique like snowflake... :(

This thread pretty much sums up how I feel too.

People complained there weren't enough events in A-Spec (which I agree with), and then when we get seasonal events added, which is an extension of said seasonal events, people complain they're too easy or not enough Cr/XP.

I read in another thread someone saying something along the lines of: "These classic car events are too easy, I used my Camaro RM with RS tyres and blitzed it". I mean c'mon, these events are meant to appeal to an audience of wide skills, so if you're not a novice, why use the most powerful car you can?

And then there's the people who say; "I'm going back to grinding Indy where there's more Cr." Fair enough, going in a circle for 10 laps at a time might net you more money, but Christ it's boring. The F1 events are so much more fun and dont take that much longer to do and they improve your skills.

I say well done and thank you to PD for these free extras. Good thread to the OP too. A refreshing change. 👍

If I were to bitch-n-moan about seasonal events it would be because the formula/organization of them has changed almost every time new events were available.

The first couple were great. They provided enough restrictions to make them challenging and had an acceptable pay out of Cr./xp.

Then the restrictions were removed and the pay out was huge. Not bad for people trying to level up or get that extra million or so to buy the car they wanted.

Next we had the FF/FR/4WD etc races which had a more familiar A-spec feel, but the payout was lower than ever and after a few weeks of high paying events most people were already past level 20 and had millions of credits that these new events just seemed inadequate.

Consistency is a great attribute to have in racing, why not game development?

To be honest the most fun with the seasonals I had was in a GTR on SSR5, WRX on the 'ring and the Ferrari events.

i like the way they are doing them... its like more A-spec races. everyone ask for more & thats what they gave us... of course i liked Bonus race 1, but the new way gives me a way to use all my cars on differant tracks... Classic, FF, RW, 4WD, F1... what more do you want? i enjoy the races, would also like the bonus races to keep coming

I'll answer the title, quite simply because they are crap.

They're not real races, they're merely extended versions of the S licence tests. The high payouts were the only thing that made them worth doing but now they don't even bother giving out them anymore, infact they can't even be bothered doing seasonal events much anymore. They're half-arsed attempts to prolong a half-arsed game by a developer that continues to piss people off with their stupid decisions.

And you are still playing this game and whining in here....why?

And you are still playing this game and whining in here....why?

I'm not playing it actually and haven't played it properly for some time, I only turn it on to check for seasonal events on thursdays just in case PD actually give us something decent for a change or to play online with my real life mates when they fancy a race. However since you couldn't answer any of my post and come up with a decent reply, I'll take it that you agree. Or maybe you need a little more time think of excuses to try defend this half-arsed game?

I am actually agreeing with you.

Well:

1) Yes, the game IS unfinished, and VERY MUCH. I still don't consider it better than GT4. GT5 has about 1/5 or maybe 1/4 of the events in GT4, how can that be? OK, it has more cars, but so what? I doubt that 10% of the folks who bought the game will ever own 10% of the cars.

2) That said, it does get LESS UNFINISHED with the Seasonal Events, and I actually appreciate PD's efforts on those.

3) However, as some people have already pointed out, it is just odd that the SE's were coming pretty much regularly every week, then PD posts a note saying they would become available regularly (or close to that) every week, and then the previously existent regularity just vanishes... PD should simply have said nothing...

4) OK, they said that there could be exceptions, but, as far as I know, the word generally (or whatever word they used) doesn't mean 50% of the times. It would be more like 80%, at least...

5) As I already pointed in some other thread, my complaining is about having to repeat the same events over and over again in order to accumulate enought XP's, as there aren't enough challenges. As I said previously, imagine in Sonic or Mario if you would have to pass the same levels over and over again before you could get to the final boss... It is the same. That's the only thing I will complain about GT5.

5) And, just so you can't say I disagree with you in everyway, I totally agree about those fools complaining that someone is complaining about the way they play the game... People complaining about the Immaculate Challenges, people complaining about the "cheaters" that duplicate cars etc. Just let everyone play the way they want! Someone is making the Immaculate Challenges, cheers for them (it is a really good idea BTW), if you don't like the IC's, then simply don't even bother to read it! You wanna take your 10.000-hp car to compete against 200-hp AI, fine! You wanna duplicate your cars, good for you! There is too many people worrying about how others play. It is just very good that there are people bothering to create options to make the game more fun (like the IC's), and for those who don't like it, please, just ignore it!

The first couple were great. They provided enough restrictions to make them challenging and had an acceptable pay out.

This is my issue with them as well. We got spoiled by the first event which was darn near perfect. Those first few races were hard yet not impossible with tons of credit and XP so you didn't have to grind A-Spec to death.

My second compliant would be they announced a schedule then (in typical PD fashion) were late on delivering it.

I'm happy we are still getting events, but they can't seem to figure out a good formula that works for everyone. There have been some excellent suggestions like having the payouts based on PP points, but instead we get a new batch of A-Spec like races that are far too easy with minimal payouts. When a game has cars costing 20 million in credits there should be some way to reach that level in a reasonable time frame. Without the high payouts I don't see it possible unless you grind to death which is beyond boring.
