Yesterday for the first time i was searching for a room to join in the open lobby section. I was ultra-surprised when i found out that 99% of the rooms have no restrictions on the cars whatsoever!! Despite that the room title was something like '' PROS ONLY,SUPER COMPETITIVE FAST ,SERIOUS RACING,ONLY FAST DRIVERS ALLOWED etc. I would enter those rooms and find out that not only the drivers weren't fast or clean, but because of the absence of restrictions the whole thing looked like Goodwood with people showing off their rare and precious Gt life cars.. There were bugatti's ,ferrari's mini's, stealth 787's ,evo's ,skylines ,rally cars all with different tyres racing each other !!

I recon 95% of the rooms have nothing to do with racing and that's just a shame for GT.

This.

Did they beat you? If they did then they may have been racing noobs, but they sure weren't gaming noobs and knew what it takes to succeed.

You are right, they are racing noobs and not gaming noobs and thats my point. Gt5 being a racing game ,it should have less racing noobs and not be full of them. That's the shame.

This is what I've been saying, it is the general audience that makes GT5 not a sim. The funny thing is those general audience are the ones that ask GT5 to be a sim.

If you want serious racing on the GT5 platform, join a race series or something and get to know a group of people who play the game in a more sim like setting 👍

Get over it dude its a new game alot of people wanna see what the fuss is about noobs or not its what we have to deal with so get over it or better yet make your own room with restrctions.

They'll eventually die off. It just came out and people are looking for fun in whatever way they can.

For you, someone who is in depth with racing, you're already on the right track by being on THIS particular forum. Look up some of the race series going on. I have one being set up after new years. You might wanna check it out.

give it a year, there will be more races for slower cars. NFS Shift was the same way, 99% of the races were full of the most expensive, fastest cars. Those are the most non-fun races for me.

I have no problem finding races as i satisfy my need for racing racing with a group of guys that are on my level.

I just gave a shot at the open lobby's and found this chaos.

This game has sold over 5.5M copies so far.
There are just under 152,000 members on GTPlanet (2.8% of GT5 owners).

I'm sure there are a lot of "noobs" on GTPlanet too, but I was just putting things in perspective as it is more likely that a GTPlanet member takes this game much more seriously than the average player. I also realize that this is an English forum and there are lots of serious non-English speaking GT5 players online.

If someone wants to post up an unrestricted online race so they can ram into people driving their Veyron on soft race tires, then let them. Everyone is entitled to what they consider to be fun. What we really need is a better way to filter out these unrestricted online races, so it's easier to find the good ones.

...or just create your own room the way you want it. Eventually you will find some like-minded racers who drop in, and then you can add them to your friends list and host private races if you want.

I hosted a room titled "F40 no aids" the other night which was restricted to sport medium tires. I was actually surprised to see how many people dropped in almost immediately with such a difficult combo. OK, only one person actually stayed and raced, but it was fun racing 👍

This is crucial, and not just for the hardcore. Like you said, everyone is entitled to play the game how they wish. What we all need are in-game functions that make finding like-minded individuals easier, or aids to find the type of server and racing regulations we are looking for. Yes, managing friends lists and organising race series are workarounds but the game should be making it easier. I don't want to deal with racing only those on my friends list, and I don't necessarily want to commit to an organised race series. I'm sure there are many of like-minded people out there on the public servers - it's just a case of finding them and at present the game does not make that possible.

The rest of your post was spot on, Egghead 👍

The only truly noob behaviour i have seen is the veyron driver that just rams into the back of everyone instead of braking. Other than that it's either inexperience on the track, for example i had one guy telling me he was a clean driver but any time i had the racing line going into a corner he would plough into me.

I know slight bumping is part of racing but i also believe it's better to ease off if you know you don't have the racing line and your going to cause a crash taking you both out.

So, they should pay for their own game and let you dictate how to play it?

What world do you live in?

The lobby title needs to be dynamic, constantly reflecting the latest regulations and restrictions set in that lobby automatically. Right now the lobby title allows like 8 characters max and it can't be changed once you set it. I entered a race that said 'dirt only, 300hp max' but when I entered, everyone was racing with a NASCAR on daytona...

@ Piket, I am having the same problem. I looked for a good series but didnt find any that really interested me. I like good clean restricted races so if you want send me a friend request. I always restrict my rooms and no one shows up. In my lobbies you will find a set hp that actually matches the rooms name. Also usually have light damage and full penalties. Full damage is great but usually ends a race early due to the pits being so far away. I know people look down on racers without a mic but I don't have one. And I don't really need one. I'm usually in party chat with xbox friends. Anyways, send me a friend request if you want some truly clean and competitive racing.

Honestly all this depends on my mood, sometimes I race and sometimes I just smash and crash, it's all in fun.. I mean it's a GAME you play to have fun, if someone rams you or cuts you off etc, just get over it.

At the end of the day, people are going to play the game the way they want. I think, like others have said, a better filter option or at least allow people trying to join servers to see the regulation settings as they maybe highlight the server would be pretty helpful.

I get why there are lots of noobs, but I don't get where all the fast guys from GT5P are.

As I quote myself, "They came from Call of Duty, NFS, Burnout, outer space, the seas, your own backyard, the cemetery, and Moe's Tavern."

But probably because people are like that nowadays. I did have a funny moment once. A jerk was in an online NASCAR race and a dude constantly said, "It's the ******* M&M's guy. It's the M&M's guy.". I cracked up so hard.

Thanks for warning. 👍 I know to pick different lobby.

There are a lot of noobs, and then there are the good noobs. Like one I just had at a Trial Mtn. Track Day, driving a Red Bull X1 S. Vettel, I'm in cockpit view in my 370Z GT Academy and BLAM! Slammed into a wall.

2 laps later I spun him, but only because they think there better because they're just better, but they're really only better for bringing the fastest car.

Not sure if I'm a "fast guy" or not, but I've spent most of my time with GT5 so far trying to work my way through A-spec so I have have better cars to play online with. I've been slowly transitioning to more and more online, and I suspect that a lot of the regulars from the GT5P online races are doing the same.

It's only a matter of time before we get some quality online races going. The best races I've found so far are titled something like "same car for all" and restrict the room to a car from the recommended garage, much like the one I found you in tonight. Too bad I couldn't keep up to you and Timeattack as it was my first drive of the night...not that I would have kept up anyways, but I would've been closer :)

What about noobs who come into your room and ask when the race is going to start when the room clearly says driving only or free run only.

Personally, I love spanking all the Bugatti Noobs with my Lotus or TVR. If they are running on Daytona, it is Peugeot 908 HDi time.

What I have found that works, however, is to just set a horsepower limit and ban driver Aids and slicks. Keeps the bugatti and X1 scrubs out of the server. Let them race each other with their 1337 skills of running off the track 7 times a lap.

Or just bring a car like the 908 or Audi R15 and embarrass them. The level of bad some players are in this game is truly astounding. (to the point where I have beat 3 Formula GT cars on autumn ring with a Lotus Elise). Underpowered equipment makes the race all the more fun.

I think the answer might be because GT5 online is full of so much fail.
the UI is so weak, it's nearly impossible to get a good race going.
not sure why anybody would WANT to do anything but race online. Can't you do all the free roaming you want without going online?

Thank god the GT police didn't show up when you entered that room by accident.

dont know if this is a noob error... infact its so bad it cant be!
I entered a 'NISSAN ONLY' room to find no one was racing with a single Nissan, instead it was WRC rally cars, mainly Focus and C4's apart from me of course who had my Skyline... I promptly exited the lobby as I know this was setting the scene for the evening...

why cant you find a decent room!

I really like the free run thing where everybody can drive togeather with different cars. The thing i dont understand is why people bring their supercars and race cars to street car cruises and drags on ssr7. They are really idiots racing Veyrons, F1 and X1 against 500 hp streetcars. That i dont understand. Allthough i think online mode is fun, you just have to found the right players.

As some of you said before, the room name doesnt always represent the players. According to me, people chousing Veyrons and X1 only because them cars are the fastest, those people arent worth anything to me really.

👍 Thanks for the heads up.

Not commenting on any type of players specific, but just some observations online, as I spend 98% of my play time there.

Check room restrisction: Not sure why no one ever checks the restriction, especially what tire is allowed. Seen countless people try to race on "comfort soft" in races that allows "Sport Soft". You can usually tell who they are, as they usually carsh on first corner and quit the race.

Demands to changes tracks: Set up a room called "69 Camaro at Monza". people join in and then promptly ask if they can race a Autumn ring......

Karting: This is the one that kills me the most. First there are people joining the room that saids "karting" without Karts. Second, there are really 2 may be 3 good kart tracks to race online. People DEMANDS to change track because they spin out trying to full throttle every turn, change to London and turns into a crash fest, 70% of them quits.

A One Make Race room: Means "One Make Race"

A No-Assist room: Means "No Assist"

Last thing. If YOU want to race your Veyron with soft sick with alll assit on at Deep Forest, don't come into a room called "MX5 No Assist at Tsukuba" and tell me to change everything so you can use your car, in the tires you want, with the assist you want turned on and at a track you like.

IS IT REALLY THAT HARD TO CREATE YOUR OWN SERVER??? 👍
