It's driving me crazy!!! When i'm in a 599 I want at leats a R compound tyre when racing it!

I drive with all aids of, professional and find some races because of the restriction to freakin' S3 tyres very difficult with those machines!!!!

Why did PD do this??? No clue! The manufacturer race of ferrari has an S3 restriction, but the nissan race allows R3 tyres? What?

It is a bit of a joke I agree. Half the available cars are basically unfit for racing, whilst two of the cars in the game are massively over powered.

Is it just me or you are also restricted on tyres on ALL license tests? And the funny thing is on description it always mentions tyres as a "choice" along with horse power/weight etc.

Look, the thing is before people start to say: well, if you buy a real ferrari then you'd have s or n tyres...whatever.

This is a racing situation, I want to go to the limit with the high end machines, which is not possible if I have over 600bhp and S tyres. Plus, I already think that the competition is driving in standard if this is possible!

So there is no particular reason...just to make it more difficult?

they did it to make the game more challenging. R3 tyres on a 599 makes it almost as drivable as a integra. That doesn't make the game more difficult does it? Also I beg to differ that driving on s type tyres doesn't put you on the limit. if anything it puts you more on the limit than R type tyres. R type tyres don't show much running out of tyre grip. Whereas S type tyres takes you to the max the tyres can hold.

agreed, but with s type tyres the limit is that much closer, and with 600bhp it is too close when you're trying to keep up with the competition!! It's not so much the challenge that annoys me, but more the fact that the car might as well have 200bhp less and I'd still drive the same because there is a lack of grip, you need proper racing tyres when racing something with so much horsepower, it's reaching F1 numbers for crying out loud!!! Most racing series don't even have engines with this much BHP!

What irritates me most, is that you are restricted to S3 tires in Time Trial mode! No chance of drifting for as many laps as you want with N1 tires longer, as in GT HD. A real shame, hope an update excludes this option in near future.

How does gimping out the super cars make the game more of a challenge when two cars alone have a strangle hold upon the whole online thing?

Its clear that PD did not do their homework when it came to determining what was a challenge online. If they did, I'm amazed that the only way they can make the game more challenging is to stuff a super car into banana skins! PD need to sort it out fast, I was expecting many and varied races, all I see at the moment are grids filled with Lotus Elises. I know I drive one to, but that's because I have to if I want to win.

I like Gran Turismo as much as the next guy, but I'm fed up of the ridiculous restrictions and conventions that are pointless, and only hamper great gaming rather than improve it. :grumpy:

PD NO Tyre Restrictions, that's all we want!!!!

To conclude:
Offline: delete tyre restrictions
Online: do add car restrictions

There you have it: the perfect GT5P game :sly:

or just learn to live with it and improve your driving skills until you can win with any given tyres..

Learn to live with it? Come on, the guy upfront has got R3's, but I'm stuck to S3's. He can nail the corners on the dime every time, I'm struggling to do anything more than corner the corners.

What the hell kind of fair rules are those? Instead of tyre restrictions, there should be car restrictions. I dunno why they didn't think of that in the first place...

I'm getting sick of the online races and particularly of the Elises even though I drive them myself, but what other choices are there when everyone else races the same car because there is no choice? Get rid of the tyre restrictions, and lets leave those Elises where they should be - in the rear view mirror!

i agree, the the S class cars some with very sticky tyres in stock form, like the Zo6 and 599. To have to rely on s2 tyres to manhandle these cars around a track s very difficult. With s3 tyres on however they drive much better. Anything less than S class cars drive well with the s2 tyres, but the higher powered cars don not refelct their "real world performance" with s2's..Why PD decided to do this is beyond me...

Exactly...No idea why they did this. there should be bhp restriction, but no tyre restriction.

Offline: no tyre restriction is the best idea ever. I just hope PD rectify this problem immediatly!!!!

I have to say that i am also not lucky with the restrictions of tires.

What annoys me is the fact that the high-powered cars really need to have the right (R) tires to have fun racing them but arcade time-trials do not allow them.

I noticed this when i setup an arcade (offline) race using the Ford GT LM car on R3 tires: The car IS controlable despite its a very powerful and handful car and i could manage to chase the (AI) leader so it was fun.

(Im usually driving with all aids off just ABS set to 1.)

My previous attempts at the time-trials (arcade-online) with those powerful cars got annoying because it feels like driving on an ice track.. vroaaamm-> snap.. brooom-> snap.. vroooammm--> snap...

Also the online-events (650 PP time-trial online) makes no sense for me because its unappealing to be ranked 158 and in front of me are 89 F2007 and 68 other (faster) types of cars.

I would like to be be compared to exactly the same car as mine (they could have a different paint though ..) driving on that particular track and on R3s!

grrr...

none of these save data things work anyone help add me on ps3 dizzylevi

What save data things? I think you're in the wrong thread.

yeah, very smart, but this means that it's very difficult to compete with the rest who are seemingly running on a much better compound. Go ahead, to the ferrari manufacturer race with the 599 and no aids whatsoever, professional physics, and remember your own advice; tell us how it went.

So your saying the 599 or z06 comes with full race slicks from the factory? No.
S3 in the GT are pretty much an R-compound DOT approved tire. R1-3 are full racing slicks. S2 is probably (atleast it is supposed to be) about the tire you would get in real life. (in the scale of GT tires anyway, they were probably aiming to have it a standard ultra performance tire from a stock car.) I haven't played with these cars yet but Im pretty sure PD wanted you to time attack tracks in a somewhat stock feeling car. Next time your on a road course in your z06 or 599 try stomping the pedal anywhere in a turn.

I'm also struggling to get my head round this one, much preferred the time trial format in the jpn version before the spec II update with different boards for each tyre type, fingers crossed it'll make a come back.

I use to play Japanese version Spec I or Version I, I deleted files and wating for US version Spec II :)

but I did drive the Car with S1, S2, and S3 tires, Yeah it's a pain, but I have a wheel, G25, and I have a feel on the gas paddle.
In real life car as the 599, You get street tires not racing slicks, and you not suppose to put paddle to the metal with this car.
If I can do it, anyone can :)
I think all you need is bit practice.

learn how to drive with proper throttle control?

S3 provide PLENTY of grip

I am a decent driver to say the least! Have played the GT series since the beginning and am very involved in car racing, so I have some knowledge and skill. So i know how to drive with "proper throttle control" ZONDAHELMET, i suggest you try the race I mentioned with the 599 no aids, professional. Perhaps that will change your mind, perhaps not...

But here's the thing, in real life I completely agree NOXNOCTIS, but this is not a stock car situation on the road; we're on a track racing. I don't want and/or need road tyres, I need racing tyres. They let you increase the bhp and lower the weight but don't let you choose the appropriate tyres. this is were things start to fall apart because the balance of the car and arguably the game is somewhat lost.

---i never said that at all...i hope you comprehend that you dont need a "race spec" tire to be able to push a car to its lmits. There are plenty of tire manufacturers who provide excellent grip form their tires. Tires that are provided for very high performance cars. A stock Z06 with and s2 tire equivalent will be impossible to drive competetivley, i did also mention the the S3 tire on the other hand was better-----

--- Assume away....ok, the whole point of this thread is to point out the lack of grip provided by the s2 tire equivalent, especially on the higher class cars. Save some digital money and buy a 599. go to arcade mode, tune from standard to professional physics, turn the assists off, then select time trial and tell me how it went

S2's provide a very good level of grip. Race on a nice easy track like HSR with low N's and you'll feel like you are on rails when you switch back to "S's" (grammatical error)

If you are using a wheel, then modulating the pedals isn't an issue as far as I'm concerned with S tyres. I can imagine that you could spin up the rears with a pad using the "digital" buttons for throttle in low gears.

R's tend to be too grippy for my liking. A few cars can get tail-happy with these; but not many. Generally, R's are too "arcadey" on these sort of cars.

I'm just waiting for the first day when custom race settings are allowed.... let's try a race with no aids, N1's on HSR... (for example) I can see 11 111R's spearing into the barrier on the 1st corner as the downforce fails them :P

i was running cars like a tuned Zonda S with 600hp perfectly fine on the Nurburgring with N3s (in GT4).. in fact I ran almost all non-race cars with less than 750hp with N2 or N3 tires (save for LeMans or JGTC, which would get S2 or S1). in my opinion, race tires are too arcadey, you can smash the gas anywhere you want and drive on rails

to each his own i guess

edit: thank you DrTrouserPlank

I wouldn't be that bothered if every car had S3's, it would be fair, but when one guy has double (or even treble) the grip I have for no logical reason, then that really curries my goat! Remember, NONE of the cars in GT5:P bar the F2007, come out of the factory with R slicks.

All I'd like to see is a level playing field, nothing more, and certainly nothing less. PD owe us that much. GT5:P is almost sublime, it could be if they used some common sense. 👍

Only one question. Have you thought about the fact that the car might be simply too slow to win? If it was a 599 only race I'd understand your ranting but in its current state you can get a better car and win it.

you're missing the point really. Plus if I remember correctly the 599 leads the pack everytime. The point is that this car SHOULD be able to win it, look at the specs and tragically it would win it if the right tyres were fitted to control its power at the speeds you need to go in order to be fast enough.

The whole point is that they let you pump up the bhp (which is needed in order to keep up) but then they wont let you choose the appropriate tyres? Is my point clearer now?
