Also the online-events (650 PP time-trial online) makes no sense for me because its unappealing to be ranked 158 and in front of me are 89 F2007 and 68 other (faster) types of cars.

I would like to be be compared to exactly the same car as mine (they could have a different paint though ..) driving on that particular track and on R3s!

grrr...
the online time-trial (in arcade) leaderboards can be sorted for a particular car on each track, and by the physics used too

and no quick tune allowed there at all

as you say, that's the only worthwhile comparison

pp time trials? well, like you say...

Learn to live with it? Come on, the guy upfront has got R3's, but I'm stuck to S3's. He can nail the corners on the dime every time, I'm struggling to do anything more than corner the corners.

What the hell kind of fair rules are those? Instead of tyre restrictions, there should be car restrictions. I dunno why they didn't think of that in the first place...

I'm getting sick of the online races and particularly of the Elises even though I drive them myself, but what other choices are there when everyone else races the same car because there is no choice? Get rid of the tyre restrictions, and lets leave those Elises where they should be - in the rear view mirror!

The Japanese version races were much better, car restrictions and none of this PP crap which clearly doesn't work, the main problem is that the Elise is so light it can brake later than anything else meaning that anyone infront of it gets rear ended, get rid of the Lotus, quick.

you're missing the point really. Plus if I remember correctly the 599 leads the pack everytime. The point is that this car SHOULD be able to win it, look at the specs and tragically it would win it if the right tyres were fitted to control its power at the speeds you need to go in order to be fast enough.
There's still one more thing for you to consider. The 599 leads the pack, which means it starts from the pole, right? If it's about as fast as the others - and it probably is - it can hold its position. But it may not be fast enough to cut through the traffic in time and take the lead. What I'm trying to say is that even though it's the car to beat on the track it's not necessarily the fastest car around the track. Why the others don't overtake it in the corners, I have no idea. But that's the GT series AI and nothing is certain when dealing with them.

I guess what you're saying makes sense :) it's just that when I drive I want to win, when I don't...lets say it's gonna be a long night :). seriously, I usually want to win a race in an honest way, or at least, when feeling generous, end up in the top 3.

Well, just keep racing.

On a side note; I raced the GT-R in the S-class Fuji track. I did this without ASM, TCS, Active Steering, ABS and in professional mode with S-tyres. Although the Ford GT was very fast after a try or two I did manage to win this race which obviously resulted in great satisfaction :)

I wonder if the 599 can also do this...I wonder...

I remember the tire physics in GT4 seemed good in lateral situations, like turning and drifting, but when it came to acceleration all the tires were way off. I could use every throttle technique and still not achieve a real world 0 to 60 time without Race tires, at least on most cars. I wonder if anyone can hit the around 4 sec 0 to 60 time of the 599 on S tires. I'm curious to see if this same deficiency is still present in the series, I still have 5 days before getting my copy.

I don't think any game can get both racing and street type tires right. It's usually one or the other. GTR2 gets race tires right. LFS gets street tires right. GT5P leans more towards street tires. I think you probably need a different tire model for each type.

Anyway to really judge we need real life lap times to compare. That's what the Top Gear track is for. I'm betting that they're working to sync up the game lap time with the Top Gear lap times. If they get that right then no one can complain.

I agree, the lack of tyre options is a pretty annoying.
No chance to perfect your lap times in arcade cause you cant choose "R" tyres, you cant do trial laps in event mode. Different cars with different tyres in one race? That does kind of suck.

But....This is just a demo no matter how big the game is.

Lets all pray that PD are watching and take note of all the little tweaks that will make the final build even better.

Could someone clarify the situation regarding N tires, please?

I haven't purchased a PS3 yet and I'm using this forum to decide how much I need GT5P. In GT4 I use N1 tires on almost all road cars and I am concerned by the apparent inability to select N tires in GT5P.

My question is: Is it possible to hotlap, e.g. the 1960 Corvette, offline using N1 tires?

One thing to keep in mind is that when comparing a game time and real world time the game should be a tick or two faster. In the game you have no consequences for over driving and pushing you car into a wall or off track( really none at all in GT), so I expect the times to be a second or 2 faster than real life. The times should be close, only times that will be off are acceleration, since GT tire model doesnt allow you to achieve real world 0 to 60 times.
