I'm quite curious as to why certain tracks or events added to GT titles?

ex: Drag Strip for doing exactly that... drag races.
ex: Good wood festival of speed hill climb for fastest times.
ex: Dakar Dune endurance races.
ex: 24hr La Mans race (it was in previous GT titles, no longer now?)
ex: Popular culture tracks, Top Gear test tracks (old and Grand Tour test tracks)
ex: Tarmac/Gravel/Mud mixed tracks.
ex: Test tracks (Mercedes, Volkswagon, Ferrari, Lambo)

Is it because PD needs licensing for these specific iconic tracks or what not ?

All valid points, I think the simple answer is "time", from my understanding GT S uses a new graphics engine to generate things like shadows, lighting and reflections. With each track having around 5+ time of day variations, and I imagine rain coming in the next year. Lighting, shadow and reflection rules will need to be applied and tested on each variation.

- Drag strip should be a simple one, they could add a drag strip to Tokyo Expressway, but it wouldn't look very interesting.
- Goodwood FOS is coming soon, I believe this has already been mentioned?
- Dakar Dune Racing, doesn't sound like fun to me....
- Sarthe seems to be an obvious choice for an upcoming track.
- Ebola Drome / TG Test Track, not too sure on licensing of these two, or if they're coming to the game at all. (personally I'd have it pretty low on my priority list)
- I may be wrong, but I believe there is already a mixed tarmac/gravel track in GT S. Its not very fun. And on mud, I don't think I've ever seen mud in GT before.
- Test tracks, same as Ebola drome etc.

Personally I would much rather them focus on other tracks like Sarthe, Laguna Seca, Red Bull Ring, Monza, Fuji, Motegi, Spa, and a few originals. We all have a wishlist in our minds. Lets see what happens in the next 12 months.

More due to mismanagement and lack of vision than anything else.

But hey they did give you 3 fake rally tracks no one asked for.

Lighting is universal among all tracks. PD just has to ensure each object has proportional( and existant) shadow boxes . It would be odd to race through trees that didn't cast shadows!

Agreed.

Obviously PD started fresh with GT Sport and it takes time to create tracks from scratch which is why the track count is so low. However, the fact that they spent time giving us 3 fake rally tracks instead of tracks like Leguna, Spa, or even the classics like Trial Mountain and Deep Forest is beyond me.

Scapes. Time was wasted on Scapes. Enough said.

That made me smile, our time or the developers time? I'm going to have some of my scape photos made into canvas prints for my games room.
When I first heard of it in the game I thought 'Jeez, buy photoshop if you want to make photos of cars'

I think this lack of direction is most evident in the Career mode they are patching in. Clearly they started out with the idea of Sport being a pure online experience and at some point that changed and the vision became diluted and messy. Even if a pure online GT game wouldn't have been as successful in the long term as what we have now, I'd have like to have seen it.

Yup, that's the biggest disgrace. Screw the entire rally part of the game.

I just wonder what we could have had if they devoted even a 1/3 of the time on Scapes toward the rest of the game.

TG Test Track was stopped because Microsoft bought the licence for it IIRC. A bit like EA contracting the Porsche licence for a while, so doubt that'll ever come.

I don't, personally, want those kind of tracks in the game. I'd much rather some of the golden oldies come back, both original and real life.

Grand Valley, Complex String, Fuji, Sarthe, Silverstone etc.

But we could get the Ebola drome, because its Grand Tour, not TG :p

I really miss Tsukuba Track :'( was one of my fav's in GT.
Also, Im sad they dont have my favorite track, Monaco.

I'll be happy if they just keep developing real tracks, and some classics. I really want Petit LeMans, VIR, Road America, Laguna, La Sarthe, Spa

I'd be happier if they stopped the dirt/snow rally stuff altogether, but they won't since they made so many rally cars.

Im glad spa, silverstone etc arent in it. Gets a touch boring having the same tracks on every game.

Am a little surprised sarthe isnt on it though

There have been a lot of surprise announcements for GTS since release, so I have a feeling news about new tracks is right around the corner. I'd love to have another crack at Goodwood with the new physics model.

Also hoping we get a snow rally track.

I agree they can get a bit boring, but sometimes you want that comfort of knowing thoes classic tracks are back there waiting for you to visit if you ever need to.

This forum would go into a wingefest safety rating meltdown if monaco was introduced for online racing.
True, because Monaco is so technical and tight. people would be constantly flagged for wall scraping, bumping and trading paint and bumps constantly.

Yes, no way should Monaco be put in for online racing. Its too tight, you cannot really pass either. I like it as a classic track, but if you don't qualify well then you won't win there, just like F1.

I want to experience Eau Rouge and the Corkscrew in VR, so Spa and Laguna Seca are my first wishes for new tracks. I really hope they get added some day.

Sarthe, meh. I never really enjoyed it that much in GT5. It would be nice to have a track suitable for Gr.1 cars though, so it would be welcome in that regard.

Add Tokyo Express to the waste bin for me. I get the slipstream/drafting demonstration aspect but after that they brought it back so many times in the campaign at the cost of actually interesting tracks they already have plus drafting demos could be on the tracks like Fuji, Le Sarthe, Interlagos, Suzuka or Spa.

If GT league uses this route then I won't be able to take any more. GT5 had a similar route but the game had a lot of content.

Some might argue back it probably didn't take that much to create but didn't we see this in at various stages of progression and was the source of much derision pre release in how it looked. Also before you scream Special Stage is part of GT well this is not a patch on those classic stages, plus I feel it belongs in a big GT game, not at the cost of anything else in a Sport or modern day Prologue.

Speaking of Dakar tracks, reminds me of that Mirage Crossing in Enthusia, which was some randomly generated desert lol. I think we can have Dakar and Drag vehicles in another game instead. I can't see 20 Kamaz trucks hauling it down Nurburgring lol

If you're a Forza person however, the idea of seeing 20 Dakar trucks hauling it down Nurburgring might not be far away

I'm not a Forza person lol, although i have tried the games out of curiosity. the driving feel isnt to my liking.
