Why bother buying Spa?

Don't get me wrong, I love GT5, and I love Spa for £3 - fantastic, more tracks please :D But.... they absolutely need to change the wording on those web pages or end up with a court case. And I am slightly miffed about buying the circuit simply so that I can host it for others.

There's also the possibility come a week or two from now non-buyers will become locked out of rooms running the track. 💡
What makes you guys so sure it wasn't an accident and it won't be patched up? I'll bet it is, they usually don't lock the hell out of DLC only to give half of it away online.

Hey guys! Just thought of something. I havnt bought the track dlc. Now, for some of you, this may seem a bit odd, buying all of the dlc bar 1 pack, but it has logic. If you havnt bought the track dlc, then you can still race on spa and the kart tracks. Sure you can't use them in arcade, but I spend most of gt5 online, so I don't see the point. Whats your take on this?

It's great that Spa is fully playable to those who, for whatever reason, might not be able to buy it as DLC (e.g. kids), but I bought it as DLC because a) I don't play online much, b) I enjoy using Arcade Mode and Practice in GT Mode, and c) it means that I'll have access to it when/if I'm ever offline... I want Spa in the game, period... and I don't mind spending the price of a beer on it personally.

While I like the new stuff, I'm already starting to wonder how much DLC will be made available, and if KY/PD propose to limit the total spend on DLC - I doubt it somehow. And however much I love the idea of new stuff (esp. great additions like Spa), I don't think the rest of the DLC was really worth the money... I bought it anyway though because I am weak.

Correct it clearly DOES NOT STATE THAT DLC IS AVAILABLE FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT PURCHASED IT. I am very glad that I didnt spend my cash yet. I'm only investing if it gets locked :-)

I agree. I didn't invest in the DLC because I didn't feel that I would fully utilise it. If however they lock it, then I am more than happy to spend my cash :-)

On hindsight I bought a circuit for £3 (great!) and a Mazda Roadster TC with yellow fluro paint for £7 (not so great) .. I will likely stick to the circuit only next time.

Nope, it kicks you.
I've seen people say otherwise, but I was just in a room, I was the one to receive control when the host left, but it just kicked all of us, about 8 people. The host even knew it would happen, forewarning all of us because it was Spa, the room would self-destruct when he left, just like created courses.

Maybe it glitches sometimes and doesn't, IDK, but the same also happens when people are using homemade tracks, always a DC for everyone, so I have to assume the exceptions are just glitches.

In any case if you get lucky and get into a Spa room second on the list, and it does hand you the room, you can't change anything about the track, if any settings at all.

I just raced in a lobby where the Host was Brazilian, but the next person in line was american. They were able to change the settings, but wouldn't dare touch the track settings.

I think in your instance, the host had put "Fixed Host Status" where the hosting privelages do not go to anyone else but the room creator, and the lobby closes when he/she leaves.

Ye I think that's what happens in my instance :-) I always join the lobbies that aloe host migration :-)

i think you got kicked because it was fixed ownership, otherise no. i created a few lobbies and others were able to constinue after i left

I've been assuming that since it was suggested.
I'd assumed the person in a rally series had set un-fixed host, and the reason I got kicked when he left was because it was a user-created course, then when it happened at Spa, I assumed they fit together, host using a downloaded course = everyone kicked when he leaves.

Turns out I need to remind people (in the series I mention) that room host is supposed to be set to un-fixed.

If you are mainly a free run/ time trialer like me then you want to purchase the track. I want to be able to access it whenever I want, not rely on lobbys set up online.

Seriously what kind of crybaby nonsense is that, so what if you bought the DLC and folks who didn't can race on it. What's the problem? Would you rather it kick them like it does in MW when you don't have the map pack and your in a party? To keep things level and running smoothly the track being accessible to others through your hosting of the room isn't a bad thing, it's very good. Buy the track if you want it for use offline as well, but if you only race online and don't care to time trial at all then no need to buy it. It will go down in price sooner or later.

The things people cry about boggles the mind, did you even think about it before you started crying? Like going to a basketball court and having a ball, but don't want others to play because they didn't bring a ball too.

Excuse me? I aint cryin. I ain't complaining. So shut it.
Thanks.

My biggest complaint is that the GT5 websites have incorrect and misleading information on them, at no point do they inform people that they can use the Spa circuit with the 2.0 update... Nor do they explain that the reason to buy the circuit is to play it offline; or to chose it when you are hosting a game. They give the impression that you must buy it to drive it. That's criminal...

I thought it made sense not buying a track and yet being able to play it online. Didn't we have this before were folks who have not unlocked a specific track be able to play it online? It would be cruel to have to require everybody who want's to play online with friends not be able to play because they have not bought the track.

I think the approach of the OP is just logical, if he does not play any event other than online then there is no need to buy the DLC. Make sense to me.

There is a small but subtle difference. If you buy it, you can race on it any time you like. You can go online, share your track, and create a race anyway you want. If you don't buy it, you can race on it any time somebody shares it with you. Whenever they want, and however they want to race on it.

One is owning, the other is borrowing.

Granted, right now every other room is Spa or Kart Space, so there's plenty of choice for those who don't own it. But it won't always be this way.

Personally, Spa is a fantastic track, and Kart Space is good fun too. I happily paid ~£10 to be able to race them whenever I wish.

Thanks m8, spot on. I have almost completed all a-spec events, about three quarters of b-spec, and they dont use spa, so I have no need to download it, as I will only ever use it online for hotlapping, not arcade, as it feels....lonely lol :-)
