Why can't i do this???

This is the most annoying thing i've ever experienced in this game. even after beating the indy 500, the x1 challenge, and freakin everything else, i still cant seem to beat the second challenge at the top gear test track (the one with the elises). It really pisses me off that after all this time I can't do it, no matter what I try. ANY tips or tricks would be beyond appreciated. THANK YOU

I really didn't want to use aids in this race. As a final resort i may try but until I try like 30 times and fail I'm stayin legit. Any other tips?

These races are just memorization. Watch the cars and remember their positions. You'll eventually see when the earliest pass opportunity is and then fly by them. Once you pass one car, do the same for the next. They don't always drive exactly the same, but they their behavior is fairly scripted.

I beat it gold without aids and using a controller, though it was in an early version of the game. I don't know if things have changed since then.

I don't know why this isn't the expert one and the stupid kubelwaagens or whatever they're called wasn't an earlier race. Even with its resemblance to a military exercise it was easier than the stupid lotus race. It actually made me not want to buy this version of the Elise. For me it took literally doing it over and over and muscle memory and learning when to be aggressive. IMO aids don't help that much, especially any that slow you down like TCS. I may have used active steering but then again maybe not. I can't remember if it was helpful. All I can say is it was a pain and for classifying it as the intermediate race of this challenge it was way too difficult and precise (starting over every time you hit, unless you get lucky and the bump doesn't count).

I'm almost done with the game except for the longer endurances and a handful of challenges. The Elise Top Gear one is one that I haven't finished yet. My problem has been the thing wobbling about under braking. I apply the brakes lightly and it still seems to dramatically shift its weight, upsetting the car and going into a skid or spin. I try adjusting brake bias, but that's a bit of a pain while I'm manually shifting gears and just trying to drive in general, but it resets my adjustments whenever I restart.

i agree... the elise is extremely loose... it feels as if the track is coated with vaseline... if you turn the aids off and practice, you will eventually get a feel for how the car slides and then you can use that to your advantage... as far as the bumping, i think it is a royal pain, and has ruined many GREAT attempts at success...

I did this with 50&-100% throttle control the entire race for like 50 times and failed.. I tried it with 25&-100% for less than 7 times and won.. trust me and get back here to tell me how you did..

Remember smooth is fast and fast is smooth try driving at 90% atleast for me it made the car controllable and the laptimes faster

I managed it after many tries but had to swallow my pride and add a touch of TCS. Took me around half an hour so I didn't find it that hard but some of the other challenges like the X2010 challenge I tried once and haven't been back since, I'm saving that for the last thing in the game because I've already earned the car from Bspec.

The trick is learning where and how hard you can clip the other cars without getting disqualified. The computer controlled cars always break early. So break as late as you can and bump your way up the inside. But don't expect to get the lead till the very last time through Gambon. It's a hard event.

I thought it was going to be difficult after I tried it once, but when I tried it again later I got gold in the first 3 attempts. You need to take risks, timing is really important for overtaking.

Actually I think it might be hammerhead that you might be able to cut.

I found reducing traction control to 1 was the answer. I wound up passing for first into the Hammerhead on lap 2. Couldn't believe the difference it made.

If you apply a very slight amount of throttle while braking, you can cancel the oversteer. You can also increase the ABS.

Unfortunately, the easiest thing to do is turn your skid recovery on & you should gold it in no time.

I agree, no-one here in this thread was complaining about the X2010 event.

I don't see why one should buy an expensive steering wheel because that person can't complete one challenge of the hundreds others he/she could complete.
It's partially a matter of skill but for the X2010 I feel like it's mission impossible with a controller, players with a controller shouldn't be discriminated, that's just wrong for any situation/game.

Although I personally wouldn't mind if GT5 took another 2 years if it would even be better. It's worth the waiting.

Because it's very difficult, and I wouldn't call it complaining. They are discussing how difficult it is, how long it's taken to accomplish, and which techniques they used.

Some people are perfectionists and wouldn't release their work ever if they had a chance to keep tweaking. Sometimes you need to just turn it what you have. Also, it was supposed to be six years. That article in the post from Jordan was from February 2009 so it was already dated by a year when he posted that. If they didn't release the game when they did, most people would've likely began to lose interest and give up hope that the game would ever be released at all. That grumbling was already brewing since 2007. Five years was enough, they can continue to patch and perfect the game in the manner in which they have been. They can also use this version as a platform to build off of for futre versions.

Remember to brake in the straightest line possible, and when it's impossible, don't hammer the brakes. Also if you're using a manual tranny, leave a gear higher than what you should so that you can apply a bit more of throttle exiting the turns.
It can also help to buy the car and a set of confort tires, and practice on your own until you believe you can handle the car properly.
Good luck mate, it was a pain in the ass for me as well, but finally made it through and felt quite satisfied

Attack hard into every corner, the AI is a bit timid, as for driving the car i didnt use any assists apart from ABS 1, use the brakes to stabilize the car mid-corner, thats all i can offer, good luck

My bf got gold, he may or may not have used aids. I remember him being ticked about that one!
I tried every combination of aids & still couldn't get gold. I think maybe I have a bronze - but maybe not even that! I gave up on the basis that I'm playing the game to have fun, and at some point I felt with that one that the joke was on me.

It actually made me not want to buy this version of the Elise.

Yes, you can cut the hammerhead in ALL the TGTT special events.
But you have to do it at least halfway through the turn or more. If you cut too early you get disqualified.

It also handles properly on Comfort Tyres if you are used to the "crapola" tyres.

btw this was the easiest of the TGTT challenges.
