Ive noticed with a lot of cars that when my car gets to redline, the revs drop down about 500 then go back up to redline. It keeps repeating that process until it changes gears. None of my cars can reach there max speed because of this... I first noticed it on my Audi tts. I tried getting the customizable transmission, but this didnt fix anything either...

Why in the world, would they prevent you from redlining... Is there some setting I have? What gives.

Rev-limiter. Use throttle control to keep from bouncing off of it, or shift up. Does the same thing in real life on pretty much all modern cars.

It exists in real life to keep your engine from blowing up.

It exists in game because it exists in real life.

Yeah - just like in real life. Every car I've ever driven in every game ever has a rev-limiter, you can never get to the top of the tach. Every time you get in a new car you have to find out how far into the red you can go!

rev limiter. just thank your self lucky you don't ride a superbike. i hit the rev limiter on full lean and nearly crashed

So in other words, once my car is in sixth gear im pretty much screwed one I get to a high enough speed.

That's why customizable transmissions exist, both in the game and in real life. Ideally you set up a race car so it hits the limit in the top gear just before you begin braking after the longest straight / highest speed section. That way you make the best use of the engine and transmission.

Not true actually, in many tracks you can get better lap times by setting the car to slightly more acceleration and bouncing off the limiter for a small part of the straight. The extra acceleration outweighs the loss in top speed. In F1 you'll frequently see cars bouncing off the limiter for up to half of the pit straight.

It depends very much on how much of the track you spend accelerating compared to driving down a straight.

when you reach top limit of revs, just drop gas button (or analogue) to half and you be fine, driving max speed. some cars needs more drop, some more gas.

If you want to see this in action, go do the Advanced Top Gear challenge. The only way to beat that is to make good use of the redline and not hit the limiter. You can do about 50 mph in that challenge, but over that and you get dropped back down to about 44.

The AI isn't smart enough to not hit the limiter, so you can overtake them on the straights.

You can raise the rev limiter IRL (the main side effect is it shorten your engine life) by adjusting the ECU. GT just doesn't model it to that extreme.

Actually, GT does model it. When you do some tuning (not sure which, I think it's one of the engine stages) your red line goes up a bit.

I noticed in one of my cars it used to have a 7500 RPM redline, and after some mods it was 7700.

Yes, but that's why is why I said before you begin braking. How far before you begin braking depends on the track. I was going to go more in depth, but I figured that was a good starting point.

I think the Engine stages 1 through 3 increase your redline ,it's in the description .

Really, I have to pay more attention and read the description . Though it would be cool if we can adjust the rev limiter our self.

is red lining when you reach your top speed and then slow down about 10 miles per hour?
