Why can't we have more standard cars on track?

You think 60fps is not important? take away 60fps from the COD series just to have more people on-screen and more detailed maps and see how many fans will be furious. 60fps is what gives GT5 it's realism, fluidity and sense of speed without the need of special effects like motion blur for the NFS series which in fact runs at 30fps.

Ofcourse 60fps is important. But I think the difference between standard and premium is big enough to put a couple of more standard cars on track. I mean, what's the harm? Just an algorithm that calculates how much extra detail can be rendered that selects a couple of extra standard cars if conditions allow it. And with conditions I mean track lay-out, race length, pit lane length, etc.

COD and other FPS games are a different story. I need at least 40 fps not to experience input delay when using a PC mouse.

Detail can be done just as well at 30fps as it can 60fps when it comes to racing. I get the same sense of speed from NFS and NASCAR2011 when I'm behind the wheel of my DFGT. The motion blur works just fine and if it gives the developers more cpu cycles for damage, debris, and additional cars, then I'd say it is a fair compromise.

While nobody ever notices a real difference between 30 and 60 fps, people will just use 30fps as a reason to whine pointlessly.

I can easily see a difference between the 2.

It's a shame GT5 doesn't actually run at 60fps most of the time then.

I respect the games that chose to go to 30fps, they recognised the limitations of the hardware and chose to use that extra headroom from not pushing for an unattainable 60fps for useful stuff. Like AI, damage, and extra cars on track.

Given that the polygon count is around 200.000 for a standard model and 500.000 for a premium model, why can't we have more cars on track when standard cars are involved?

The standards barely have 5-10k polygons.

lol at nascar 2011.

Call me when that game is rendering a quarter of a million polygon cars at 60fps and at a native resolution of 1280x1080

If that's what you really want then you've got it. But it sounds to me like people would rather have more cars on the track, more damage, and less lag/frame rate loss.

All software is a compromise. GT was out to get the best looking cars. They succeeded but it cost them features that other games take for granted. Day 1 of GT5 had no damage at all. After a year it is still pretty lame.

But seeing all the threads complaining about there not being enough premium cars or how ugly the standards are, I'd say the proponents for better gameplay are out numbered.
