Gran Turismo has made a smart move to aquire Ruf's licence to somewhat replaced Porche(I know that Ruf make their own cars, but close enough.).

Why couldn't they acquire licences from Euro tunners like Gemballa, Hamann, and Koenig? As for as I know those cars are not "official" tunners of the 3 germans, and their products are not wearing any kind of Ferrari, Lamborhgini, or Porsche badges.

Why didn't GT go after them? They have thought of this because they've got Ruf, but why did they give up on others? Are they lazy/crazy?

Gemballa, Hamann, and Koenig, though, all have an agreement with the cars.
Ferrari, Porsche, and Lamborghini send their cars to the 3 companies making the car the 3 tuners tune, tuned Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and Porsches.

They're just tuned Porsches, Ferraris, and Lamborghinis.

EDIT: http://www.fast-autos.net/hamann/hamann.html
This is also why the cars aren't in. Hamann keeps the names of the companies. TO use the Hamann Ferrari 360 Spyder would be a violation. If PD doesn't have the license to use Ferrari or its names, then it can't use the tuners.

Gemballa is a bit different, but in terms, they're cars are still tuned Porsches. Notice the Cayenne name of Porsche is kept.

Koenig is the same way as Hamann. http://www.fast-autos.net/koenig/koenig.html
They keep the names of the cars they tuned. Again, using these cars would be a violation of the Manufacturers' licenses.

Well, Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porsche consider themselves tuned and don't want some game to tune up their cars. That, and..money is a huge issue to ge those licenses. Forza, Microsoft, has LOTS of money. :sly:

Obviously true....too bad that they didn't utilize this wealth on quality programmers....instead of paying out the nose for high priced licenses on 'exotic' cars.

Well all I can say to PD is PLEASE get Ferarri, Lamborghini and Porsche for GT5. I know EA has had their lic for years but never uses it.

Their about to use it AGAIN, on the newest addition of their series. Need For Speed : Most Wanted, seems like we're going to drive Ferrari's, Porsches, Lambos, Bimmers, Mercs again. IMO - Porsche Unleashed..BEST! :sly: :sly:

Actually, it seems Microsoft is the one with those licenses.

The only cars I've seen in Most Wanted are the M3, Corvette C6, and RX-8.

This has been covered a thousand times before, but some companies aren't included because:
- They already have licence deals with other companies.
- They don't want people to be tuning their cars.
- They wouldn't agree to certain terms of the licence in the first place and to go back and change it would mean changing the licences with other maunfacturers, and then other companies may not agree.
- Even in GT2 a (un-named) company couldn't sign the contract because they were in the process of being bought-out by another company.

Sony didn't get thoes manufacturers because they were asking for too much money. As already said, they couldn't get a tuner becasue that would need a license from the tuner AND the original manufacturer. Ruf don't take stock Porsches and tune them, they build their cars themselves using some parts from the Porsche factory, but because there is no base mode being worked on, theres no car being tuned and because they use a certain ammount of their own parts, they are classed as a manufacturer.

RUF started out "fixing" Porsche 356's if my memory serves me right (cut me slack I'm on 14) and then only in the last few decades have satrted producing there on cars or lack of (they only build a hundred or two a year) but when you look at the RUF's in the game the 3400s is a direct take-off of the Porsche Boxster and the other two are what look like GT2's and GT3's two get that kind of power you only need to put a twin turbo in there or something hey that just gave me an idea why not put twin turbos in the game??? I'm sure Supra's, RX7's or RUF's could benifit from them anyway back to the point it was my belief that to get a car tuned by RUF was not compleatly made by RUF but originally built by Porsche and then taken to RUF for a tune-up. Although I may be wrong

I can see it now Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche and those 3 tuners with the Japanese tuners
And by the way I didnt even know that Hamann exsited untill then and I hadn't heard much of the others

Pretty good but not 100% correct. They do tune and fix up peoples Porsches, if you have a Porsche and want it modding to a CTR2 spec, Ruf will do it for you. But lets take the 3400S as an example, when Ruf build a 3400S, they do not start with a Porsche Boxster, they start with a pile of parts of their own and parts from the Porsche factory. So there is no base car for them to tune up or modify since it's just a pile of parts. Ruf use enough of their own parts to qualify as a car maker in their own right. Don't confuse this with the fact that they still will take someones Porsche and modify it as the customer see's fit, they still tune Porsches, but the ones thery build like the ones seen in GT are not tuned Porsches.

Is it just the way they were built, or is there any structure difference between a
"stock" 3400s straight from Ruf and a 3400s that used to be a boxster?

Well, since there's a thread about it already, it saves me the hassle of starting a new one.. hehe.

Seriously, what are the chances of Sony getting these licenses for GT5? Assuming that EA had some sort of "console-exclusive" license (which seems to be the popular theory), wouldn't those licenses be up for grabs now that the PS2 life cycle is about to end?

I think either way, we'll probably hear about it as soon as it happens, IF it happens. Polyphony will immediately release a few screenshots, with an encoded message of "Suck THIS, EA!!" or something like that.

I just hope that if they get them, they do it right. EA's games like NFS only have the "latest and greatest" versions of these cars.. I want 'em ALL.

Thnx live4speed, so from what you said they do both? Build from scratch and tune existing Porsche's? I know if I had a brand spanking new twin turbo 911 and wanted it to go that little faster to shut up my class mate's from saying that my "Poor Man's Porsche" (They actually say that) and that there 1927 or what ever Fords and Chevs will blow me away, just to make it that little faster I don't have to go out and buy another car I can just have my current 1 modded abit
DJ
ps i know that sounds confusing sorry

It just boils down the the issue with money. PD's poor compared to Microsoft. PD=Skyline bargain 30 for the price of 1 w/o damage. MS=Enzo w/ damage and tuning. How do you even get a licence for a Enzo? Not to mention wreak one? MS has too much money.

The best post in the this thread. 👍

The bottom line is we don't know.

EDIT: v v OK then smart arse :dopey:

Actually Sony did say so at the GT4 launch party, they wern't willing to pay what thoes companies wanted.

Guess I must be one of the only people who doesn't care that these cars aren't in the game.

I suppose if one of them were your absolute favorite car in the world it might make a difference, I know I'd be very unhappy if I couldn't get a Mitsubishi 3000GT or Camaro Z28. Heck, I'd love to be able to race in a Chevy Cavalier (since I own one :sly: ) but there are plenty of cars in the game, way more than most average players would ever touch.

There are RUFs tho for all the Porsche fans, and how many flat wedge-shaped sports cars do you really need?

Buy an Espirit or NSX and play make-believe. :dopey:
