Why do I lag when my headset is on??

Different countries allow different frequencies for hobbiest, as far as I know. There are a ton of specific frequencies for specific devices... the list is long. For simplicity, 2.4Ghz devices are WiFi, Bluetooth, some cordless phones, some baby monitors, some video repeaters, microwave ovens and car alarm remotes. Perhaps more.

For those having the lag, either hardwire your PS3 to your WiFi router, or attempt to change the channel of your WiFi router. Setting it to 'auto' may not be best. Your router may see interference due to your bluetooth device and change the channel automaticly. This is bad, if it keeps changing the channel automaticly since the Bluetooth device will move around the 2.4Ghz band continuously. Experement on which WiFi channel works best for you, and lock it down. Be aware of other WiFi routers in your footprint. The polite channels to use are 1, 6 and 11. Other WiFi channels will 'bleed' over on each other.

If you have an Android phone, you can use this to see other WiFi routers/channels in your footprint. Also, you *may* be able to see a dB attenuation (signal drop/channel change if you're on AUTO) when your Bluetooth headset is on.

Okay, does anyone know if theres a 'wired' headset that would have a really really long cable? I'm talking 25 feet or more? Our living-room is 18 feet wide and the console is at the opposite end from the sofa. All of the headsets that I've found locally have a 6 or 8 foot cord; so they won't work for me. The area that I live in is peppered with University students; renting, we own our 'house' (it's a townhouse).
I'm tring to get in touch with our internet provider for a couple of things. Doing a few of those free speed tests for you internet shows that our upload speed is bad and our ping rate is long for our area. Upload speed is 0.26 mbps, download is 11 mbps, and ping is all over the place, but anywhere from 16ms to 60ms.
Anywaays, thank you all very much for all of the information; if all else fails, no Bluetooth for me.... not a big deal, I can still type at the end tof the race.
Cheers

I'm sure there must be an extension you can get?
Anyway, I was going to say that you don't need very super super fast internet to play gt5 online lag free & without problems.
That said, upload speed of .26 does seem rather low. :boggled: I mean at the low end of low, especially having an upload speed of 11.
Perhaps that discrepancy is a problem... I don't know.
