Why do JDM cars have so many freakin' names?

Just to name a few... I mean the Trueno has no less than FIVE names, without including the manufacturer! Seems a bit excessive, and confusing, to me. I thought marketing was all about keeping it simple and name-recognition!

Just seems to be how they do things in Japan - Mazda Japan had something like 11 sales channels at one point in the early 1990's (no wonder they got into trouble - 'I just want to buy a 626...')

All Truenos and Levins are pretty much known in Japan as AE86s, aka Hachi-Roku's.

The Dahaitsu is just a model type, nothing wrong with that.

Long names are cool.
