Why do pitstops take so long?

just started on the endurance races, I have noticed my pit stops take ages!

Is it just on autopilot or am I missing something? like it says "first gear now" for a week:dunce:

Refueling takes the most time. If you're running A-Spec, set the amount to 0 liters the first few stops and when your tank is almost empty switch to roughly half of what the game suggests.

Refueling in GT5 takes forever compared to real life, If you've ever seen a Formula 1 race before last season they can dump a whole tank of fuel in, in less than 12 seconds.

Have you noticed that when the crew finishes changing tires, and the car is back on the floor, the fuel man doesn't move the fuel tank? I guess that in those conditions, it takes a long time to pour the fuel....

Sent using GTPlanet for Ipad. Fantastic work Jordan!

That's F1, watch sports car racing/Le Mans etc. The fuel rigs are much slower.

Very true! That's because F1 fueling machines are produced by a French company that manufactures refueling machines for in flight refueling. An F1 refuleing pump can pump 12ltrs per second.

Even using Nascar rigs they could dispense the fuel much more quickly.

It seems to pump a litre every 3 seconds or so... that's slower than a forecourt:D

What's also interesting is that the GT5 tanks take 73.5kg of fuel (100 litres) but the pit guy doesn't seem to have any trouble carrying it. They train them well! :)

Even the ALMS races I watch dont take longer than 30 seconds to fuel usually. Although there is a chance they might not be putting in a full load.

haha its actually half that, a fast one is about 4.8 seconds for tyres and fuel up, its crazy how fast they are lol

I don't get why people just don't take this time to stretch out their arms and legs after sitting around for awhile. At the 24 hr enduros I can get a good minute worth of stretch and water drinking while the car is being fueled.

Maybe that's why PD made refueling take so long.

What's even more clever is in some races when the car is dumped of the jacks the nozle is left in mid air while he stands there refuelling. Still not as odd as the completely invisible pit crew in some pits, lol

I doubt they put that much thought in it, just like they didn't with everything else :dopey:

When I was pitting in my TVR Tuscan RM during the 4 hour race I happened to look right and saw that the refueling guy was stood more than 6ft from the car, doing nothing.

Sometimes I wonder if I can refuel at Shell in a faster time than what it takes GT5 to refuel a car. Although GT5 has 100 litre fuel tanks, I think it's fast considering the amount of fuel.

The weight of the fuel... does it add to the overall cars weight and drop during a race?

Nope. The amount of fuel in the car makes no difference to performance.

And I agree, the pitstops are terrible. You can normally get 15 litres in the time it takes for the tyres to be changed, that ought to tell you how bad pitstops are when it's a 100 litre tank.

Just something I've noticed, but if you get sick of waiting, and you've already got your new tires and they've dropped you off the jacks, you can just hit the "Pit Cancel" button and Bob will roar out of the pits with whatever fuel they've managed to spoon into his tank... :)

No, but it does slightly affect performance. When racing NASCAR online at Daytona, a near-empty fuel tank makes you up to 0.150 faster per lap.

As for the slow refuelling, GT5 refuels you at exactly 2 litres per second.

I did the Suzuka 1000 the other day and watched the refueller standing over the car while his fuel can was still on the ground behind him - now that's a skill

That's not at all true. I'm noticeably faster on fresh rubber with a half-tank of fuel than I am on fresh rubber with a full tank. Depending on the course I can pick up as much as 2-3 seconds a lap compared to a full tank.

These tanks are 100 litres. Remember that. Now go to your local gas station and pump 100 litres. See how long it takes. Yes to make it more accurate they should have made the F1 cars take 4.8 seconds to fill the car but I honestly don't care. Everyone pits for the same time, unless they take on less fuel.

F1 fuel is pumped under pressure, the GT system is gravity fed. This is similar to many types of racing a particularly reminds me of the Isle of Man TT races where refuelling is slow even though they are only putting a few litres in the tank.
