Why does everyone say "It's worth it"?

Honestly, this game is NOT worth the time and frustration I put into it. This is the only game I ever bought that I HAVEN'T be able to play EVEN ONCE since owning. Two days of trying to download an update, and nothing.

Isn't it amazing how MS can get updates to MILLIONS of Windows users, RS can get updates to MILLIONS of GTA4 users, EA can get updates to everyone playing their games, and yet PD can't distribute a single update to a game that far fewer people are playing? But it's worth it, right...

I feel sorry for the person who is going to buy this game from me on eBay.

But I am willing to bet that within 15 minutes of owning Burnout Paradise, I will be playing online. Oh, and I'll be playing a game with damage modeling.

And yes, I know that the mods are going to delete or lock this post, but whatever...
 
when the download of an update fails, you can resume it where it stopped when you go to the news section.

And this is not a finished game, therefore, it was quite obvious there would be problems like this.
 
i think its a problem on your end, because i haven't had any trouble updating whatsoever

I think it's worth it, and so do many, many other people. Sorry you had a bad experience with it.
 
My mate says its boring all you do is race on a track its not fast

I reply "is 200mph not fast enough or do you want midnight club where you dont need braking" and also said "this game is only for pure racing fans"

Seriously, I think that 99% of GT5P users were able to update just fine. It really sucks that it failed for you. 👎 But do you really think statistics are different for the other publishers you mentioned?
 
Your Internet connection must be very slow. Udates should take not much more than 20 minutes or so.
 
Its not a finished game.... you could say its just a very big demo... You can't expect a non finished product to act like a finished one and trust me GT5 will not be like this.

I don't even use online its so bad... so I will just wait until its improved. I do think the game is worth it for the fact you get a taste of GT5 way before it comes out plus it updates with new features, tracks and cars for free and you can get video content... thats a great bargain for the price!

And I think you assume a little to much, but whatever.....


As has already been said the updates do work (either that or we are all sat here 'pretending' to be able to play GTP:5), you simply have to keep at it.

After it fails the first time, and it will, you go into the game and try it again (from if I recall correctly GT:TV or the new feed), while it shows the download starting form the begining again, this is not what is happening. It's actually starting from the point it last failed (as long as you don't quit the game).

Mine took about 3 restarts if I recall correctly.

Now either searching or asking politely would have achieved two things, the first would be a lot less frustration on your part, and the second would have been a much better welcome here.

Not everything is great but its a very good real racer ;) It has a proper amount of cars and 5 tracks for a sharp price! A demo would have a couple of cars and a track. Also some full priced games bring less quality.

The game is WORTH it.

According to your other thread that got closed (click me) you are in the US and you have a JPN version of the game which must download from JAPANESE servers!

When the data has to travel such long distances are you surprised that every-so-often an error occurs and the download stops?!?!

Keep trying it took me 2 HOURS SOLID to get the updates for my JPN version of the game. However my UK version only took me a few minutes.

Anyway....why did you buy a JPN version when you live in the US and the US version was released AGES ago???

Its 6 tracks.... there is 12 if you count reverse tracks including the daytoya road course track.

youre wright, reverse for me is not a new track. 6 places, 12 layouts 👍
 
First, I do apologize to the mods. I have been on other boards where this message would be closed instantly. Thanks for letting it stay open.

Also, I do want to point out that this is the first time I have been disappointed with a PD game. As a matter of fact, my all-time fav racing game is TT.

I have the jp version because I bought the game on ebay, and this is what I received. I didn't go out of my way to get the jp version.

I did search, and followed all the advise on this forum and the PS forums. I did try a wired connection and it has failed for 2 days. I went to the news at least 50 times and still no dice.

superwally says there is some way to get the update on a flash drive... Great, please someone tell me how to do this. I have an 8gb flash card, so i can put the whole game on there if necessary.

My internet connection isn't slow. It's 1.5mb/s DSL. Not the fastest, but definitely fast enough to download a couple gb of update.

As far as downloading from Japan, most of the fastest mirrors when download demos for the pc are in europe and asia.

I'm trying one last time. I deleted gt5 off the hd, I'm reinstalling it now, and i'll try the update. My only point is this is feeling a lot like work. I'm not having any fun, and isn't that the point of playing games?
 
I think everybody can sympathize with "technical problems" - they are extremely frustrating. I myself have had no problems with my NA copy of the game.
 
I gave up on the updates for about a week when I got my copy, but then it worked fine when I finally tried again. It is frustrating but I presume your racing offline okay. You don't need the updates to do that, they only prevent you from racing online. How do you find the driving offline?
 
i really only bought the game for online racing. Offline the only racing sim i play is TT. I own a bike in real life (an R1). I'm not impressed by many cars on the streets(except for vipers, 3rd gen rx7s and supras), but bikes are just amazing right out of the showroom. Even an 8 year old relic like mine can blow the doors off a new maserati, ferrari, and z06. And yes, I have destroyed every one of the cars I just listed.
 
Bikes and cars are pro's and cons, I've not been into bikes that much but the I had a pretty big accident on one once and I've never really wanted to get back on one since. Bikes accelerate quicker in general because of the massively lower weight, cars can corner faster in genral because of the massively higher contact surface with the road. I have seen a car beat a superbike on a track, but then you have cost, the superbike was a super saver compared to the car. Each to thier own though, my brothers well into bikes.

Have you tried racing offline though yet?
 
I'm still searching on how to update via usb drive as superwally said. Does anyone else know how to do this?
 
you can download the PS updates online, then you put it in PS3/UPDATE/file.exe on your usb drive and plug it into your ps3.

That folder might not be correct, but it's something like that.
 
I've heard of people putting a memory card into their computer and creating a file; PS3 FILE/ UPDATE DATA, then downloadiong the updade from the web, then transfering it onto the memory card into the PS3 FILE/UPDATE DATA, then inserting the memory card into the PS3, then transfering the data onto your PS3.
 
Thanks guys, but that is the process to update the ps3 system software. That is how i updated to 2.41. What I need to know is how to get the spec II update on a usb drive...

Not possible, the GT5: Prologue updates are only available from one place....the GT5: Prologue servers.

I hope that you are successful because it really is worth it. And then when you get online, you'll REALLY know what frustration is when you meet the "Punters"!

wait, ... the "punters"...they don't deserve a capital letter.
