When you buy a car it says it has x amount of HP. Then when you look at the car in your garage it will say it has a different amount from the original purchase. Then on top of that when you select the car in your garage it will read another HP that is completely different. That's 3 different HP ratings I'm getting BEFORE I even drive the car. I know they break in and such, but why such a gray area here?

What cars? JDM cars in videogames are notorious for paying tribute to the gentleman's agreement even when the car itself as it appears in game has considerably more horsepower than that.

And I've found the garage rating and the rating you see when you select the car to only ever be off by 1-2 horsepower.

Well yeah it was with a JDM car that I first noticed it. But why the 1-2 HP rating difference between looking at it in the garage and then selecting it in the garage?

This is the case with many cars in GT5. When looking at your car list, it might say for example that your car has 502HP, but when you select the car and look at the stats, it goes up to 503HP. I can see quite a few cars in my garage that have this power difference, but it's rare to see a power difference of more that 1 or 2 HP.

this happened for me with an R34 went from 784 to 788 when i brought the tunning setup up before the race i was like wtf then realized it benefits me so carried on ps im not dumb just still learning stuff about gt5

I believe once the engine is broken in a new car, you'll see an increase in HP. That's true in real life- the various mechanical and moving parts need to settle and lubricate.

Then I have a question for all of you:

Why did my brand new (never driven at the time) Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SV and Dodge Challenger SRT8 down by about 20 hp? (down 20 for the Murceialgo and 25 for the Challenger) Then I drove them a little bit, and they went down further or stayed the same. Then my Gallardo, which I had driven 1 or 2 races, was down from 552hp to 535hp. And my Veyron has gone from 1001hp to 987hp to 1011hp to 1018hp to 999hp. I drove it once at 1001hp, it went down to 987hp, then changed the oil and got it up to 1011hp, and haven't driven it since and it's gone to 1018hp then 999hp.
