Why does my RX-7 in GT 3 have low torque?

Hey guys, can't figure it out. I just bought a PS 2 and GT 3 today (I know, a little behind, I'm mainly a PC gamer) and my RX-7 is all decked out, I've bought everything I can to upgrade it and I have 700something hp, but my torque is hideous, something like 77 pounds, what's going on?

Thats 77kgm of torque. THey didnt change that ft lb to kgm. Do you really think you would be driving a car fast with 77lbs of torque?

Oh alright that makes sense :) Thanks. I'm trying to get towards an Escudo Pikes Peak car but the races with even a decked out RX-7 are very hard. Is there any car and race or race series you recommend doing? I noticed a few races are worth $50,000 I believe. However the cars are way too fast. Is there any certain car I should be working for, that I can soup up to beat all these other cars? Seems like with the RX-7 even in top speed races in the turbo races, in amateur setting, I get beat, despite having my gearing set for top end.

Which series are you racing? You really should spend some time on the license tests, doing them a couple times even after you've passed them. Then try to race the beginner races with very lightly modified cars so you can improve your driving skills. Believe me, it really helped. On my first game save, I took the approach of getting the fastest car possible (like the Escudo) and just raping the game. It worked until I got to some of the Pro League races, especially the ones that are a one-make series, like the Pro Elise. I did not have the skills to get the Super License so I restarted without reaching 100%. Take your time at this game and you'll get alot more enjoyment and sense of satisfaction out of it. btw, I bought this game back in December and 6 months later I nearly have all the skills I need to reach 100%. And the last month or so I haven't been playing daily either.

The RX-7 has a 2-Rotor Wankel..... Not a V-8.

Aaah, with you now. Rotaries have low torque anyway, but it's not quite that low.

So what if a V8 has loads of torque? A 1992 RX-7 Turbo has 195 lb-ft of torque. That's out of 1.3 Liters! That's 150 lb-ft of torque per liter...compare that to a 2005 Mustang GT that puts out 315 lb-ft of torque out of 4.6 liters. That comes out to less than 68.5 lb-ft per liter (yeah usually people compare hp/liter but torque is closely related anyway) I'd say the RX-7 makes pretty good torque pretty efficiently.

I always thought it was a game glitch...But it still doesn't make any since. When you first buy a car it has just normal torque numbers...like 200 sumtin, and when you get it decked out it has like 20. It doesn't make since unless they change the format in which torque is measured when you upgrade...?

Rule of thumb: If you want a Lb/Ft. torque rating multiply the torque figure by 7.
I believe that I got that little gem from Famine, the knower of all things GT3.:D
ON the quest for "GT3 domination" Go back thru the lisence tests and look at the demos and try to emulate them to the best of your ability. This will teach you how to be faster.
As for making in money and winning cars...
My money making race is the European cup and the German car cup in Amatuer league.
With each of these series if you save after the fourth race you can either run the last race repeatedly, by reloading, until you get the Vertigo or the Astra (respective series) as a prize car. They are both very good cars in their own right, but have a resale value of 300,000 and 245,000 respectively. Great vehicles for padding the coffers with cash.

I would personally steer you away from the Escudo and the F1's for normal racing. There's a reason that you don't win the 'Scud until the end of the rally races. Just as there's a reason you don't win an F1 car until you've beaten some fairly "strenuous" races.
As SnowBordrWRX has said you could win these cars and just Spank the competition in the rest of the game. But that's not gonna make you fast. It'll just mean that you're smart enought to have brought a "Shotgun to a knife fight".
Real gratification comes in this game when you've showed up "empty handed to a knife fight" and emerged victorious. For example, when you beat the PD cup with an Elise or the baby Tommy Kaira. Or when you take the Amateur Type R cup in a mildly tuned Civic Type R.
Then when it comes time to race in the all Formula 1 races, you will be better prepared.
There is also a ton of info here at this sight. Do a Search for "compendium". You should find Der Alta' detailed write-up for how he completed the entire game. It isn't the fastest path to completion of the game. It will show the path that will cultivate your skills as you race thru the more difficult series and single races.
Good luck, Enjoy, and Welcome to the Planet.👍

If I'm new to the forums, I would definately appreciate this response... Heck, I'm no longer new to the planet and I learned something and appreciate this response 👍

Yours as well SnowbordrWRX 👍
