I've just been thinking about this while I was going round Indy on another grind fest for cash and XP. Why does PD bother to get licences for WRC, NASCAR and Super GT if they don't use them properly? With these rights they could have put games within a game as such, I'm not talking about a full blown career mode in each, I'm thinking along the lines of mini championships.

For each of them, give them their own icon on the GT life screen, when you click on one it takes you to a sort of mini A-spec mode. For example NASCAR could have championships at different skill levels, say firstly use the licence to get the NASCAR truck series as the beginner championship, then HP restricted, then full unrestricted racing. WRC could start at an entry level rally car championship up to WRC spec and even up to the old Group B cars as it's finale.

I think this would be a great way to earn XP and cash without having to grind, licences for other types of motorsport could also be added, Indy cars and GT1 for example.

Thoughts?

I agree! I was disappointed at the rallying, it was so promising. And I would have loved to see the old Quattro rally cars, maybe some more uphill climb cars.

Ya, there is a lot of potential, its just sad it wasn't used properly. The only WRC race is the Seb loeb challenge, there is only 2 Super GT race (for which you can use any Japanese car), and Nascar has the Jeff Gordon + 1 A-spec event. Not to mention weather and time affects almost never get used in the game, despite so much advertising.

I already knew it was going to be a disappointment even before the game came out.

Its essentially the same rally events as past GT games, just they one of them has random generated courses.

PD tries to do too many things, so the focus isn't there. If they tried to do things slowly and try and implement it well it would be a lot better.

WRC/Rally: We are still stuck with the inviable walls, no dirt trails left behind, windshield doesn't get dirty, no mechanical damage (suspension drivetrain engine ect) and the way the events are handled, also your co pilot.

NASCAR: Only 16 cars max in gt5 yet 44 cars race at once in NASCAR. That to me makes no sense. No real mechnical damage here yet again. Only 2 oval tracks. No info coming from you crew, and the way the ca handles feels wrong (or maybe its the AI) I can just pass all the other cars by just going into the inside corner in Daytona, it feels like they slow down.

SUPER GT: No championship, there can be a given of 38 cars on track at once, and different classes of cars, and the point system doesn't take into account the different type of class cars.

I'm just gunna stop there, plain and simple yes PD got the license but nothing as really changed they are just doing the same events as they have in the past GT games.

"I'm not talking about a full blown career mode in each"

- why not? a NASCAR career mode sounds awesome... even awesomer would be an online NASCAR career mode!

Well it would be great, I was just thinking about time restrictions on PD's side, full blown career modes take a lot of time and effort to implement every little detail.

not every little detail ,
how bout a few more tracks then.... a nascar road course maybe??? the the ability to have manditory pit stops online for nascar races or any other races.

I also wish they did more with super GT.

but also, nobody has asked...................... Where The Hell are the GT1 / GT2 Cars ??!?!?!?! The DBR9, MC12 , & the Lambo ... ect ect

That bored me to death just reading about it. I believe I've just found out why such a career doesn't exist.

eh. from all the complaints, I feel like I played GT5 already..

What about TopGear ? PD made a trailer with Stig but where is he ?!! where is TopGear matches like red/blue cars (I don`t remember what cars !) in E3 2010 trailer ?

My impression on this is the following. I kinda thought WRC and Super GT would be played way down. Although they showcased in videos not much was pumped to the public about those "modes". So I really didn't think much of it. Now NASCAR on the other hand was being pushed HARD. I thought for sure that NASCAR was going to be a game within a game. I believe they said they were trying to get all the rules of NASCAR in the game and all the nuances. I may be dreaming but I swore I saw a video of this being proclaimed yet when I dive into the game it's anything but.

The group I drive with having been using the NASCAR element of the game heavily and we're definitely having a ton of fun with it but it is NOT what we expected it to be. It has an edge on other games with NASCAR in it on some levels but it's not the "no-comparison" edge we or rather I was looking for.

The other two "modes" are being implemented pretty much as I expected them to be so I'm not really disappointed there but the NASCAR is much less than what I was led to believe.

You'd almost think that PD has aquired the most limited of licences for each of the concepts, yes they can use the name, but not implement anything in the way of actually doing any of the competitions.

Same with top gear, yes you can use the name and a limited version of the track, but don't try doing anything like what we do in the show.

Which licenses though? Because you don't need any license's to participate in the normal race events, they're simply there as a place holder for you to gain car's at the start of the game, and some easy EXP.

In the Special Events, sure they're a waste. I particularly dislike the Mercedes Challenge. I was thinking each one to be a one-make-race around the 'berg, gaining in car speed/difficulty as you progressed in your level, but it was just a silly point to point for the first two of them, leaving you with a one-lap challenge at the end that was near impossible.

(Note: I gave up on them after the second one. And I recently restored my PS3, so I have no more game data)

I'm really disappointed in what they did with NASCAR. There is already enough people that don't "get it", and unfortunately GT5 does nothing to help people understand why and how NASCAR is so exciting and REALLY difficult to win at. If I had nothing but television and GT5 to judge NASCAR by, I'd be right there with the "turn left...oh joy" crowd. :)

The whole rally thing is also just ridiculous. It's nothing anywhere close to what rally (or rallycross) is about. In GT5, it's just another type of car going around the same tracks.

We're talking about legal licenses to use racing trademarks...not driving licenses. ;)

For those who can't find the races they want in the game, just look slightly above this thread in the GT5 Online Racing. You'll find organised races based on series like the Super GT where you can actually race with real people. If you can't find one that suits your need or "style", then start something you think others might enjoy. I believe this is where GT will eventually heads towards (entirely). Understandably there are limitations within the current GT5 (infrastructure) but if you go into these races with no baggage and for the sole reason to have fun, then you might be in for a good race.

This. All they did is making the people who already dislike NASCAR hates it even more.

Granted. However my ideas were based on improving and expanding the single player element of the game, to make use of the licences and to ease the grinding you have to do come level 24, plus add more depth into the whole driving experience

PDs deal with WRC and NASCAR might cover iterations beyond GT5, but since they already sealed the deal they chose to put those licenses at least to a little use in GT5. Lets just hope we'll get more content, either via DLC or in GT6.

What are you on about?

Codemasters = F1 Licence = Full F1 game

EA = NFL licence = Full NFL game

That's how it works.

So GT5 has no licences then, they've just got permission to make the cars and not any proper events to put them in?

I am glad that I can play these cars on the best/most fun sim game around? Anyone else happy just for that? You guys are totally looking at this in a wrong way. They couldve and probably wouldve just put those cars in the game, and nothing else. But to add polish, and to give you a better feel, they gave you some of the tracks, and to learn about driving those cars. I am pretty sure that those cars wouldve been just thrown in and some of you all wouldnt be complaining, but like I said, they at least wanted to dedicate some time to show you about those cars in the game.

The cars are licensed from the manufacturers (constructors in racing terms) not the motorsport organisation they compete in. The WRC, NASCAR, Super GT licences are obtained to legally allow these cars to race against each other in the game so that the organisation can't sue PD for producing a game based on elements of their sport without permission (hence the reason that there's only one F1 car in the entire game despite PD having McLaren, Mercedes, Renault and Red Bull licences). My point was that PD have the rights to use WRC, NASCAR, Super GT and indeed the Top Gear licences to their full potential but fail to make anything of them.

This isnt a Nascar game, WRC game, etc. Like I said before, they just wanted the cars to be in the game to add to the car diversity, but probably decided to make events dedicated to the cars so you could get used to them.

...they at least wanted to dedicate some time to show you about those cars in the game.

And that's the problem. Racing series like NASCAR and WRC are about sooooooo much more than just the cars. Without the rules and idiosyncrasies that make these types of racing they are, they are just different cars running around on the same old tracks.

Spend a few days tweaking unsymmetrical setups on a NASCAR to shave a few hundreths off a lap time, or drive 500 laps at 140mph at Bristol while swapping paint the entire time. One thing that makes NASCAR challenging is that contact is allowed, and sometimes even encouraged. The risk of crashes and damage is just part of it. None of that "danger" or setup detail is in GT5, so there is nothing left but "going in circles" against AI that are clueless. It's no wonder people think that it's boring...it is!

How about having to repair your rally car between stages to get the best time on the next stage? Or having an actual copilot that does what they are supposed to?

So you are absolutely right...they just threw the cars in and captured none of what these racing series are about.

They dont need the licences for the actual cars from WRC, NASCAR or Super GT, the cars manufacturer holds those rights.

They don't do things slowly enough already?
What they need, are some competent people overseeing whoever is making the awful decisions.

For instance, someone who will say - "wait, you want people to wait and fish through the used lot for weeks on end for a FGT car to be able to complete the game?"
OR - Fire the morons that make these types of stupid come to life.
Like whomever implemented this paint system, and whoever decided not to allow wheel changes on "standard" cars.
Maybe firing the guy who decided copies from GT3, an almost 10 year old game were acceptable. How can a team look at the Nomad Diablo and say "that's good, let's implement that car!"?

I have to agree somewhat. While NASCAR's implementation could have been better, its not so horrible. However rally in the end I really enjoyed, but in the end found lacking. It was fun to drive, but I am really surprised they created these GIANT rally levels that are not even used aside from the Loeb challenge. Not only that, the GT Rally is over way too quickly. Finally theres SO many rally cars in the game, yet some of them (the really fast ones like the Lancia Delta Integrale and S4) are useless because they are too fast compared to your competition.

Speaking of Super GT, in GT4 there was a 10 race championship... what happened here?

Overall, maybe they plan to release updates in the future, or maybe structure online a bit. Because as of now, I have to agree, the implementation is lame.

The DBR9 could have been incorporated in GT4 -- the game came out after the car was announced and shown, and PD could have modelled it without the actual race car. I wait over 5 years hoping the car has been included, and it isn't here while the real car has been retired. And they never got around to the C6-R Corvettes either -- hello, both these cars won Le Mans -- and none of the GT2 cars has been added, either.

Face it. PD simply took maybe 800 cars from GT4 and ported them over to GT5 and the PS3, and spent some time on "special" (read: Premium) cars just so they looked good. The Peugeot Le Mans car in the game is ancient, not the diesel that has ripped up Le Mans for two years, and GT4's version had the clunkiest gearbox of any car in the game.

Likewise, the Lambo and Maser MC12 are completely absent. But then, from what I've seen -- I'm on Level 19 -- they're useless because PD would put them up against full prototypes which would blow them into the weeds. PD hasn't got the car matching for competitive racing for less than full-blown prototypes right since GT2 . . . and don't seem to give a crap.

Why would they? We all flock and buy it anyway, don't we?
It's probably the worst part, knowing the only way for this to improve is PD finally crashing and burning, and hopefully, somebody better picks up where these guys leave off (burning).

I just feel like you get NASCAR, two tracks (way to drop Infineon), and one of the tracks [Daytona] isn't even accurately depicted because of a lack of a restrictor plate. 250 mph at Daytona isn't even close. I feel the draft is also too high, 230mph at the end of the straight at Indy, when I think the top speed all day at this year's Brickyard 400 was ~207mph

Here's a clip of the 2009 race, if you jump to the 5:45, you can see Joey gets to about 202 in a tight draft, and down to about 145 in the corner. Now this is midway through a tire run, so obviously on fresh tires his speed would be a bit higher, but Polyphony just completely missed.
