Why does PD waste licences?

The whole licencing thing does seem like an afterthought, some good work with the drivers doing voice work, to a degree, to make special events but there's really nothing laid out in terms of series for rally or NASCAR or Super GT.... even the Top Gear event lacks a voiceover from Clarkson, Hammond or May and the events lack any sort of "Top Gear-esque" theme.

It's like they got the licences and had no idea how to use them, which is a shame. If the licences are locked down, I hope they use them in GT5, get Infineon added, get a few real special stages for WRC, have proper series races for these licences.

I'm really sad personaly, beeing a huge fan of SuperGT and D1GP I was hoping both got implented in the game since Gran Tursimo is sponsoring them. DTC event was really bad too.

Nascar got quite a bit of stuff to do, from jeff's academy to the Nascar championship in expert mode, I dont see where you can complain honestly. Actually it's one of the category of cars that got the most race if you compare with other event.

Also you can do close nascar racing in this game, I had some fun party online. Sure you need good driver, Nascar is a really hard type of racing, despite the fact it seems really simple, holding your trajectory in the turn isnt given to lots of people.

If NASCAR was in any more of the game then it is already, I would have taken it back day 1. If that's what you want someone makes a NASCAR game. I personely like turnng right, it's an underated direction.

That's just a personal opinion and a pretty ignorant one at that, I'm not a NASCAR fan, in fact I'm not even American but I appreciate different disciplines in motorsport. I also believe GT has evolved from a Japanese orientated racing game into a game that wishes to represent all types of motorsport from around the world and the more they put in, the more people may start to learn, just like I have with NASCAR.

That bored me to death just reading about it. I believe I've just found out why such a career doesn't exist.

Indeed, it took me 4 hours to read that sentence because I fell asleep twice.

I could do without NASCAR myself. I'm not a hater either. Actually owned a NASCAR game for the PC about 10 years ago. If they insisted on NASCAR I would have been much happier with Infineon and Watkins Glenn as the two tracks.

To ME (This is an opinion) what GT is all about is the LeMans and SCCA type races/cars. Always has been. Formula cars (while being in GT for years) haven't really been a focus. NASCAR has never been in GT.

I would rather have EVERY LeMans class and DTM/JGT types of races than any Nascar or Formula. There's already dedicated Formula and NASCAR games out there.

While we're nitpicking. There are plenty of decent (perhaps world class even) road course tracks in the US. Watkins Glenn/Infineon/Atlanta/Ohio just off the top of my head. Why put Daytona (ring) and Indy in there? Just keep your high speed test track and ignore these "licensed" (I'm assuming) tracks. Save a buck and nobody would even care.

I couldn't care less about NASCAR because there really isn't a more boring motorsport in existence. Seriously - round and round and round and zzzzzzzzzzz.....

WRC? Meh, PD has never really understood how it works.

Would love to have a fully fleshed out all Japan GT Championship series though, that's proper racing. Even if they had it as a world tour on some unusual tracks like Daytona Road Course and Nurburgring. 10 races, 20 laps per track, points system, the ability to exit after a race (so you can have a life beyond the PS3), then return later to continue the Championship.

Yeah. Dream on :(

I was thinking this the other day. This game could have been epic IF they used the licenses to the full. I have no idea what PD thinks sometimes.

The DBR9 could have been incorporated in GT4 -- the game came out after the car was announced and shown, and PD could have modelled it without the actual race car. I wait over 5 years hoping the car has been included, and it isn't here while the real car has been retired. And they never got around to the C6-R Corvettes either -- hello, both these cars won Le Mans -- and none of the GT2 cars has been added, either.

Face it. PD simply took maybe 800 cars from GT4 and ported them over to GT5 and the PS3, and spent some time on "special" (read: Premium) cars just so they looked good. The Peugeot Le Mans car in the game is ancient, not the diesel that has ripped up Le Mans for two years, and GT4's version had the clunkiest gearbox of any car in the game.

Likewise, the Lambo and Maser MC12 are completely absent. But then, from what I've seen -- I'm on Level 19 -- they're useless because PD would put them up against full prototypes which would blow them into the weeds. PD hasn't got the car matching for competitive racing for less than full-blown prototypes right since GT2 . . . and don't seem to give a crap.

Hell the C6-R could have also (or at least the new livery of the C5-R) instead theres the original C5-R from the 2000/2001 season, and the same half baked car has ended up in GT5. 10 years and a bunch of Lemans wins in between and they still have the old car. (yes we can race mod the Z06 and ZR1, but its not the same car).

To be honest I thing PD have spent too much time on making gt tv, b-spec and making the online, I don't even like the online.

If they spent too much time on b-spec, I'm not sure where that work has gone

Totaly waste of licenses. And one more thing bout some cars specialy racing where are many same cars just with different paint scheme (livery) and they shove it like different car. Is it too hard to make just one kind of each car (for example; Nissan GT-R SGT) and in color selection choose which one we will use. Simple as that. So by that formula they (PD) can give as many cars and will had much more from atleast licensed series (full SGT 500 '08 grid, full NASCAR '10 grid, and all factory and some privateers WRC cars). Courses and championship(s) is not worth to point at because poor track selection from those series (only 2 NASCAR, 2 SGT and none rally). I'm not saying that there must be all tracks from those series atleast there would be more than it is now (5 SGT, bout 10-15 NASCAR and 5-7 fictional rally tracks with few stages per country like in many rally games).
But not to take this in a long WHAT IF? or WHY?, I think that generaly this GT was poorly structured and that what it is.

But in the end it is still a good game, not great one as I expected and hoped for...

Not a waste really. Puts ticks in checkboxes. Job done.

Yep, I agree. It would certainly expand the very limited A spec mode. They've got the potential but haven't exploited it enough. You would think with the years of development they could have included something along these lines. What I would give to have more restricted, intense rally races and then jump into NASCAR and continue in my season. Oh, wait, there are only two ovals - Waste of time putting NASCAR in?

Well I think I can see at least why there was not a full NASCAR mode put into GT5. The problem is there is currently a NASCAR game in development by Activision. I have a big feeling that NASCAR and thus PD had to work around activision's lisence in order to keep anything NASCAR in the game. As far as the other series go, yeah, they dropped the ball here.

Nascar, when done properly, is anything but boring. It is probably some of the closest racing you will ever see.

Well they didn't completely waste it because the cars are there but yeah they definitely didn't put it to good use. It's like calan_svc said, it's great to have the cars but the limited events don't really capture the essence of NASCAR and WRC. I have to admit they have made quite a massive improvement in the rally events. To go from racing one other car around a dirt/snow circuit to actual point to point stages with pace notes etc. is a big step but the overall experience doesn't feel that great to me. Since I'm a huge rally fan I guess I was just hoping for more.

I also wonder why they didn't make use of the drift trial mode and have a couple drift events in the game.
