Why does refueling take so long?

I thought those things pumped in like 5 gallons a second? Are they really pumping in 400+ gallons during these endurance races? :|

If the Bobs are using Nascar-style cans (which they look like) then the rules say that the cans have an outlet that is restricted to 2 1/4 inch ID and the vent is 1 1/2 ID. Can itself is 11 1/2 inch diameter and holds 12 gallons.

It doesn't seem like those pipe sizes would allow a particularly quick fuel flow.

EDIT: I just checked, 12 US Gallons is 45.5 Litres in new money, they must have some kind of spatial distortion on the inside of those cans :D

That post has nothing to do with GT5 and does not help the original poster, you should prolly remove that before you get a warning.

Judging from what i've seen the LMP , Group C Cars Hold 100 Ltr's of Fuel

Cars will in B-Spec Auto-Pit when either the Tryes are worn out or the Fuel is used up .

Seems to take forever to fill up with fuel and the AI Cars seem to fill up and get out of the pits quicker :grumpy:

Example Currentley i'm doing (ok Bob an Bob an Bob is) the B-Spec Le-Mans 24 Hour Race

Bob's are in a Audi R8 so is the second place Car but there pit stop is 45 seconds quicker :grumpy:

And on several cars, the pump doesn't even go into the car, it just magically floats above the car. I assume it is somehow teleporting the fuel into the car!
I too thought the refueling was unrealistically slow.
I was on the FGT races and it was taking forever to refuel.
Have you ever seen an F1 pit stop? They refuel the entire car in literally a few seconds.
I also laugh at the magic teleporting of the drivers for the driver change!

How about you read the post again. This is obviously about GT5. I'm guessing you've never pitted your car.

Speaking of... why is it that NASCAR still use that can-system instead of hoses?

Exactly. But besides that, in real F1/Indy/Neckcar, the fuel is done pretty close to tires, not another 90 seconds later.

Quite odd.

Because its NASCAR , the Same reason they use 5 Lug Nuts per wheel

But at least they can Dump in 18 Gallons of Fuel and Change four Tyres in under 13 seconds 👍

How about you pay attention to edit times?

/nice edit btw. LOL I was only joking cause I got a 'warning' for joking on this site before LOLOLOL.

Which begs another question, why when using the FGT, does the pit crew take off and put in 5 lugs per tire? LOL x 2!

Because in f1 up untill this year they used super fast fuel rigs however still had to wait 3-4 secs for fuel after tyres, also I would guess that with street cars the size of the fuel filler hole would also be an issue.

Ya, a better animation should have been used. It's all good until they lower the "jack" The pit crew with the gas can doesn't bend over enough to keep the nozzle in the car.

The floating and teleporting fuel oil can is pretty annoying.

I like the car wash. It's like watching a bunch of mimes wash an imaginary wall around the car.

Refuelling
For 2010, no refuelling is permitted during the race meaning every car starts with a full fuel load. The 2010 season cars are about 22 cm longer than 2009 cars to accommodate the enlarged fuel tank this necessitates.

Is that true? Haven't watched F1 in a long time. Did they move away from pressurized fueling before that too? I'd imagine gravity feeding many liters of fuel is time consuming. Just strange the AI car's fuel faster.....if that is true. I haven't taken note of it myself.

AI does have their car fueled a bit faster but not a significant difference. In B-Spec, this seems to be less noticeable.

Yup, sorry... my original post showed a (relevant imo) picture of Verstappen's car in flames during that famous pit stop.

Members may recall that the incident was alleged to have been caused by the team's attempts to increase flow rates by removing filters from the pipes.

I should have made an edit note to that effect... sorry!

Glad it's not just me. Doing the Suzuka 1000km and watching the stop take 30+ seconds is kinda agonizing... Hopefully PD will address this with the next update.

As far as my experience goes, all the cars hold 100 litres.

Refuelling can often take an age if you allow the pit crew to put more in than you need.

If you have 55 litres at your first stop (you can tell because it will suggest putting 45 litres in) then it's a fair bet you won't drain your tank on your second set (assuming you use the same compound), so in this case, set the refuel to 0 as you're pitting (yes, you can change it, if you're quick) which will make your pit stop shorter and your lap times quicker, as you aren't carrying fuel you won't burn before the next stop.

I would imagine the long refuelling is meant to add a strategic element to fuel/tyre stops.

There may be a bug or something, normally when feruling low amounts of fuel ~5l the car leaves straight after changing tires, but sometimes the car stays up to 10 sec longer in the pits refueling the same 5l.

It might has to do something with, how the car enters the pits, the speed, the angle, or it could be linked to the lounge penalty settings penalizing the driver if entering the pits at to high speed.

Yes. I believe the idea was, at least largely, for safety reasons. I've only started following F1 since the early part of the 2008 season, but during the short run that I got to see with refueling there were several refueling-related mishaps in the pits, including fires and an instance of one of the Ferraris driving off with the hose attached, which I believe injured a pit crewman.

I was trying to find appropriate videos, and here's another refueling hose incident:

Just one more thing that could have been tweaked before release. They could have and should have done a Nascar style pit stop where everything takes no longer than 12-15 seconds.

Yea, if I was one of the tire changers, I'd take my sweet time. It makes it even weirder that they change the tires as fast as they can just so they can sit there and stare at the car for 30 seconds.
