Why Gt1 and no LMP?

....mazda thinks about a comeback to LM, too!!:)
...i hope mazda makes again an unbelieveable lookin and sweed soundin car with rotary engine of course and CLOSED body work and thus begins the "NEW GENERATION OF CLOSED LE MANS RACING CARS"!!!.....and porsche,mercedes and Toyota (yeah!) would follow too.....but i hope the new "GT1" cars won´t be sooOO futuristic as the legendary "Group C-cars" were.....

.....so let´s hope all manufactures raced at LM will make a comeback..........
 
The Mazda 787B was not a great car.

The Porsche, Mercedes, Nissan, Toyota, Jaguar competition were all quicker cars.
However Mazdaspeed negotiated some performace breaks such as less weight, more fuel etc. in 1991 which gave a significant advantage over the competition.

Without these performance breaks the 787B would not have been in with a chance of victory.
