Why I love this game...

Just before GT5 came out I bought F1 2010 and shelled out for a G27 and Wheelstand Pro. I had tons of fun playing F1 2010 but obviously knew GT5 was on the horizon. I was gutted when it was delayed again and resigned myself to the fact it would only come out after Xmas. When the actual launch date was confirmed I was over the moon.

I can honestly say the CD hasn't been out of my PS3 for nearly 3 months now. I think the number 1 activity I enjoy in the game is the actual driving, just man and machine round the track in my opinion it is unrivalled today. This is helped no doubt by the fact I have a G27 and the sensation of driving round the tracks is absolutely brilliant.

I know there has been a lot of negativity towards the game, no game is perfect and when you actually look at it subjectively you can see how much content there is. Do I take my new car round a few tracks and benchmark? Do I carry on A Spec/B Spec? Shall I take some photos? Shall I do the Special Events? Shall I just browse the dealership for a new car? Shall I create my own custom tracks? Shall I view GT TV? Shall I go online? The list is endless.

Now some of you might be at 95% and I kinda feel sorry for you lol. I'm only 58% complete with a lot still to do. Even when I have completed it I will still enjoy the number 1 activity at the moment which is just driving the cars round the tracks.

On top of this PD have listened to the community with a great patch before Xmas and the seasonal updates prevent constant grinding.

I agree with you.

As a game I would give it a low score, and I've listed my reasons in several threads. But as a driving experience it is indeed unrivalled.
 
A steering wheel does improve the game/experience a lot, I found that out when I got my DFGT. 👍
 
I haven't played GT, apart from on the PSP, since GT3. I played GT1 and GT2 to death. What I understand from others is that in comparison to GT4, GT5 is lacking somewhat.

I have been playing GT5 since pretty much the week it was released, I now have over 100 quality cars in my garage (all killer, no filler), am over 90% complete and am continuously compelled to keep playing. The driving is what makes the game, yes. But.. e.g. the supposedly customisable transmission, which is, for me, still locked out @ lvl 28 for individual gear manipulation - WTF! Also, where are all the other great tracks from the GT series, Grindenwald, Apricot Hill, etc, etc - you can't have a race without a course to race on..
 
Agreed, GT5 on the Wheel is simple Superb.
It's another game compared to GT5P.

And yet i have to hear that the serie is "stagnant" in another topic... :rolleyes:
 
Gt5 has the same problem as Gta4 did, they both had to follow a Massive game (GT4/ GTA.SA) , but, since a PS3 is connected to the WWW, they can keep updating the game, so therefor the game will probably stay interesting for quite a while. Everybody, and everything has flaws, so let's just keep loving the game. 👍
 
The value you get out of this game is immense. I've never had to "grind" once, and yet must have had tens and tens of hours of enjoyment (and some frustration!) from it. If you compare this to other leisure activities (going to the cinema, for example) the value-for-money is amazing. I bet most of the people who complain still have gotten lots of fun from it.

+1 For your positive view on the game, I love it too! It just got better when I bought my game I bought a DFGT along with it. I know its not G27 but having a wheel is simply amazing and it is, I reckon the way GT5 should be played.

It sure have some faults but for me, I can simply ignore them and focus on the fact that it is really a great driving game.
 
Can we sticky this? A positive view of the game is so refreshing instead of the incessant complaining about what people DON'T like! I feel very similar to the OP...and I drive with a DS3!

Although I've had the game out of the PS3 a few times...when the wife wanted to watch a movie.

This is the same for me. I find that the good bits far outweigh the bad in this game not that the bad bothers me that much though.

+1 this is how I feel. Turning on GT on my PS3 is like turning on my entertainment package for the night (instead of my cable box or loading up movie) theres races online, stuff to watch, cars to check out and mes with etc.

You have no idea how refereshing it is to see a thread like this in here. I totally agree with your sentiments except for one thing. Games only been out two months but I still get your point. The game is addictive, has amazing replay value and is completely immersive like few others.

I'm looking forward to updates as much as any new game.
 
I posted this in another thread. I love GT5 and completely agree with you about how many things there are to spend your time with on this game.


I'm sure I probably played one of the old GT games that were on the old school PS systems when they first started using discs, but I wasn't really into racing games back then. So GT5 has been my first real racing game since I rented Forza 2 and didn't really get too excited about it. That being said, I love this game to death. If they could really implement some more in-depthness to the online experience it might be my favorite game ever. COD4 in its prime is almost unbeatable for me, but I just spent over 6 hours tuning one car to get it just right and I loved every second of it.

I'm pretty sure I'll be able to drive the Nordschleife when I get to heaven.
 
Joining in the general love for GT5; sure it has some niggles but there are moments when it takes your breath away, and others when you're laughing your head off at the joy of driving.

How I wish this was my job!
 
I'm waiting for my wheel and definitely enjoying even with the DS3.

Gt5 is the only game which has actually managed to bring a tear to my eye, I noticed that the sunlight actually changes as the clouds obscure the sun.

Finding all these little details are amazing, now let's just fix the error points PD!
 
I dont love the game I just like

Running 9 - 15 lap races online with my buddies are awesome.

And when I do some endurance races are fun too

And you gotta love those premiums
 
This game is great.
I may have clocked more time on GT5 than any other game ever, not sure.
I have played it nearly every day since I got it in November.

I bought a PS3 initially to wait for GT5. It was well worth the wait. At least I had Rockband 1, then 2, and 3 to fill the void. GT5, loving the genre since Arcade Pole Position, and Turbo for Colecovision.
 
Also loving this game... and have to agree that the driving experience I've had on GT5 has surpassed every other driving game I've had before

yes the game design has its what I like to call "quirks" but this doesn't really take away my enjoyment and PD are doing regular software updates anyway which sweetens the deal for me

I am also enjoying the photo mode which is a new experience for me in playing games.

Over the last 2 months or so, all my other games have been gathering dust so i guess that tells a tale in itself :)
 
This by far is my all time favorite game.. what helped it secure that title happened the other night. was driving my real life car on the ring (s2000) HUD completely off and I happened to notice reflections of the clouds on the instrument panel. At that moment i knew nothing could match this game in pure awesomeness.

I know what you mean. I enjoy the cockpit view so much that I may never drive a non-premium car again. Bumper CAM just doesn't cut the mustard anymore.

GTPlanet has gone drastically downhill in the morale department.

When I was way younger, I got GT4 from my local Walmart. I had a gift card, and the cover looked cool(for only 20 bucks). I fell in love with the game. I was opened to a world beyond Chevys and Fords, to Chapparals and FPVs. Driving my fathers Chevelle around Twin ring motegi and my 1000 bhp Cien around Test Course were great. I loved the coffee breaks too *lol* GT4 was absolutely my first real game. The fun, like getting the exclusive black cars, and new cars in general, all were just wow. As with all little boys, we break things, we cry, and move on. I played NASCAR 06- Total Team Control for a few years then. I loved it, but I dreamed of driving it on High Speed Ring...
I also checked in with GTPSP on gamespot alot. I lost interest over time, as the game kept getting pushed back.

Fast forward.

December 26, 2008. After 2 years of saving, I finally got my PS3. Gran Turismo was just a forgotten part of my childhood,and my gaming future looked forward to LittleBigPlanet, Warhawk, and Uncharted. I get many new games, fall in love with Rockstar North, and develop a strong Gamesharing network. My PS3 also accounted for many new friends at school, through PS3 gaming sessions. Then, at E3 2009, I see a Japenese dude talking about GTPSP, my long forgotten game, and GT5, a new game I showed nearly no interest in. I laughed at this man's slow translator, who had to write down everything before translating it. I move on with life. E3 2010. I see GT5 again, but I see a trailer. NASCAR. I am filled to the brim with childhood nostalgia, and am instantly interested in this game. I find GTPlanet, and I was in love. I never had saw such an indepth site that was filled to the brim with exitement, hope, and just friendliness. I felt at home just by lurking. I checked the site multiple times every day, now scrounging for news on GT5, my new love. Everyone was so excited, anticipation was bubbling over, we all seemed so joyful at every new feature(s) announced. Then, THE GAME WAS FINALLY RELEASED! But it was the day GTP would change forever.

November 24, 2010.

The forums were bursting with joy, for a while. Then, complaints arose. Trolls found every nitpick to hate the game on. The entire forum turned into a complain fest. My little site, filled with happiness, was now filled with discontent. It felt like I used to live in a beautiful city, but now Iam living in a over-polluted hell hole. The morale has just plummeted. Almost all the joy is gone. But this, this thread, is my first breath of unpoluted air in 2.5 months. To the op, i thank you. Sorry for the long post guys, my fingers just rolled off my words. Anyone agree with me?

Now I understand whay Daiki Kaiso's 5oul On D!splay is the secondary theme to this game, I have never typed up anything like that ever!

It does have flaws but they don't overshadow the primary activity. The driving keeps me coming back and everything on top is a bonus.
