Why in the hell are the AI on the FGT A-Spec so aggressive?

Ive had it up to my neck with computer drivers in FGTs spinning me out on the final turn until the straight on Fuji, for example. One time, I was in first place on the final turn on the final lap, and the person behind me taps me and spins me out!!!

Maybe you are using the wrong line? Or maybe you slow down too much? The AI drive the same exactly line almost all race, so unless you do something different, you shouldn't have to worry about the AI spinning you.

I'm not the best racer, but I'm usually consistent in the lines/braking points I take. And in these situations, like above, I take the same line and the same braking point I've been using all race and in an effort to pass me, AI rams me as I open the throttle......

Well, all I can say is that I'm sorry for you, just run it again and hope it doesn't happen. Normally the AI are pretty laid back unless you give them an opening. Hug the inside line and you should be fine. Also, I'd advise removing some of your foul language from your post. It is frowned upon by the moderators.

Trust, I'm usually not this vulgar, and at least I bleeped out part of the word....but I understand. I've just tried this specific race three times today and the frustration just reached a boiling point. That's all....calm cool and collected now lol

I had issues with the FGT Championship as well, more often than not it was just a case of my braking point being so much more different than the AIs.

I got around it by calming down and following the pack, you don't need to beat them by 30 seconds, you just need to beat them 20 laps is plenty of time so just try to keep your cool.

No idea. On certain races, the AI is way too agressive. Once on the American Championship at Indy, me and the Chap 2J were in a heated battle. On the home straight on the last lap, he spun me out. Nice round hole in my wall... I haven't tried the race again to this day.

Wow that sounds harsh.. I don't think I've ever had AI be quite that bad with me, but I don't doubt for a second that this would have happened more than once, they tend to be in the worst place at the worst time.

FGT A-Spec event is one of the true tests in GT5. You basicly need to get out in front and stay there! If you make it to Suzuka, just pray you don't get full on rain!

I've had similar problems.. especially with all the Nascar races.. if you hit an AI, it hardly wobbles, but if an AI hits you? Slide City.. spinning completely out of control..

This is because AI can make thousands of adjustments per second. They can be spun though I've seen AI crash on their own many times before

When it comes to the corners with AI cars present, I usually give some space and take them on in the straights.

What I hate though is when I'm coming to lap them in slower corners and they just barrel into me at the last second.

Practice on nerb for a bit online. You will learn that following the best line isnt always the best way around the track. And I see myself as a great drifter and it has helped me racing too When most people tend to brake and speed out the corner I rip the ebrake and pin it to the floor works everytime.

Yeah it can be rather intense. Still, the fact that you had it in the bag at the final corner means that you know you can do it.

So just back yourself, relax early on as there's plenty of time to catch them, and once you hit the lead, don't back off. Keep doing what got you in the lead in the first place.

And yes the AI do step up the pace for the final lap. So as long as you have at least a 5 second gap, they won't get near you. Stay composed, stay focused and bring it home. You'll be fine.

The AI speeds up when you get too far ahead in [at least] the FGT events. Once they get close, they go back to their normal pace. So if you can maintain consistent lap times towards the end of the race with a lead, they should never get close enough to cause a real problem.

They aren't really any more aggressive than in the other events, but it doesn't take much to unsettle an FGT so it might seem that way. They just take their line, be it the normal one or an overtaking line - and then run right into you if you don't do what they expect, just like in any other car.

The AI has an odd way of driving in that they drive really conservatively overall, but they are capable of making the instant tiny adjustments to control any car right up to the limit of what it can handle(which may or may not be the same limit as a human-controlled car). When they drive too slow, they do it on purpose. This can cause issues with the FGT because it's little difficult for many players to adapt to just how incredibly fast the FGT can take the corners, much more so than even the LMP cars. It is however fairly difficult to keep the FGT stable while going that fast, again even more so than the LMPs. Yet the AI is capable of driving the car very fast, whithin the limits that their foolish driving line allows them to.

So what tends to happen is that the AI slows down way too much, and then takes at least part of the corner faster than the player does(oblivious to the fact that the player is going slower than they expect) and then usually slows down more at the end of the corner. There's also a few corners here and there where they don't slow down quite so excessively which can cause problems on entry due to them not expecting the human to slow down more than they do. Add in the parking they do when you scare them and racing close to them can be pretty hairy.

Once you get fully accustomed to the FGT's cornering speed, and how gentle you need to be while turning to achieve it, they will be much less of a threat. Just be patient, stay in the open area of the track and let them pass themselves. Then stay smooth and you can pull away and stay ahead. The trickiest part is usually staying focused and running 20 laps without any mistakes of your own making.

...Except at Monnoco. At Monnoco, the AI are crazy!

And at Nurburgring GP, i was in 2nd place trying to catch the leader when, on the 2nd-to-last lap, the leading AI was too aggressive exiting the corner befrore the kinked back straight and spun out, handing me the win. He doesn't do it every time, but i've seen him spin out several times at this track. :LOL:

Every race in this Championship is a war No question it's the hardest test you'll ever face offline. (expect for the Nurb one )

It's really only a test of patience and consistency. The AI is just there to get in the way. Even with downgraded tires you can easily spin multiple times and come back to win by a mile, or you can just cruise around very lazily and not-crash to the win.

If you count seasonals as offline (since you're just racing the AI) many of them have been MUCH harder than the FGT races, particularly if you happen to choose a car that is slow for its PP level. I personally found Dream Car Championship as well as the Ring 4-hours, Suzuka 1000 and Ring 24-hours to be much more difficult as well, due to choosing a car that made me work for it. Probably had a few other challenges I've forgotten that were much harder as well.

I completed that championship long ago and I didn't notice any aggressive driving by the AI. Unless one of the updates changed the behavior of the AI that is. I just had an issue with how long the races are lol, especially the B spec races.

They're not that long... In GT4 the FGT Champ'ship consisted of 10 races of 60 laps each! This is nothing compared to that!?

Also Le Mans and Nurburgring Nordschliffe were stupidly included. (Glad they abandoned that in GT5!?) If i recall correctly, the number of laps for those two were 35 and 15 respectively.

Before, I couldn't even place at Cote d'Azur or the Ring but, thanks to the seasonals, my driving has gotten a lot better. I tried to get the fastest lap on the final lap and almost managed it. If you make one little mistake, the AI is on your butt faster than is possible in real life. If you slip a bit on a corner, they race ahead as if they've used nitro. That's what makes it fun but very frustrating. I have my ABS set to 10 (lame, I know) but find that it helps a lot. No changes on the car at all, totally stock. Just remember to change the oil, too.

Do you use a wheel or controller? TCS?

I have all aids off except driving line and ABS on 1. I set up the brakes as Ft9/Rr10 and slide into sharper corners under very late braking! I can't do that with skid recovery on, but if i'm using a controller, then i need skid recovery. I never use TCS anymore!

Also, why would you use it stock??
Increasing the strength of the brakes allows you to brake later, giving you a massive advantage.

And why not adjust the top end speed according to the track??
If you're hardly getting into top gear (7th), then you're costing yourself much-needed acceleration...
On the flip-side, if you're red-lining at top speed on a long straight for several seconds, you're costing yourself more speed...

If you were already struggling, why would you make it harder than it needs it be?! Forgive me if that doesn't make sense to me.

I use the Logitech Driving Force wheel set on a kid's scooter that I adapted from a photo I saw. TCS is at 5 which, I think, is default. I used a new car and I don't remember adjusting that. I might give it a shot without but I assume the car will be too slippery. Brakes were 5/5, default, and everything worked fine. By now I know which corners I can go late on and which ones I can't. That used to be my problem, specially on D'Azur but I tamed my eagerness. The FGT is a fine handling car with nice controlled drifts on the corners, mostly on Fuji for me.

Stock was fine. The needle bounced at the end of the straight at Fuji but I didn't bother to adjust it. There was no reason to since I was pretty far ahead of the pack. The key was to not make a mistake not speed. Getting the line right on D'Azur takes a bit of practice but it's not as overwhelming as it used to be for me.

The only one where you can make a mistake and come back seems to be the Indy course. During another attempt last week I got knocked out on the 5th lap but came back and won it.
Lastly (sorry for the long post), there is a roulette factor in this race. There are some AI groups that are faster than others. This last time seemed to be the toughest because the second place driver was second in almost every race while in other attempts the second place driver varied. In other words I had to win every race this time whereas before I could have placed farther down and still won if I'd grabbed enough golds.

Yeah i meant increasing the brakes from 5 to 10. Most people used 10/10 or 10/9. I was the only one i think who was being fancy with 9/10 so i could use controlled slides!

Well that's where you practice all the single races first and note down the top speed for each track. Then you make a habit of changing it, or at least checking it, before every race.

Well i guess that depends on the driver and when in the race the mistake happens. The earlier you stuff up, the more time you have to make up for it. I came back in Nurburgring GP twice in the same race! I tend to naturally do well at that track.

Yes that happened to me too. Not every time. Just the one time when i had finally won every one of the previous races with one race to go. And in the last race he's extra aggressive when the champ'ship is on the line. But you'd expect that really. Who wouldn't be fighting their hardest for the Champ'ship?!

im sorry but you need to improve your skills, i finish almost 30-40secs ahead of them. There are horrible on some cicuits for instance fugi turn 11-12 they slow down to where you have to swerve to aviod them. There is no challege in gt5 for me, even online there are few competitors atleast real drivers. To bad my g27 busted a week before gt academy this year and i wont use controller i would have gave it my all last year i got within 1000 seperated by 1 sec that 1 sec was hard to find though
