Why is 1st place always ahead, by far?

I'm sorry if this is a repost, but my phone makes it so difficult to search. Anyways, its starting to annoy me why 1st place is always so far ahead from the pack. If it were like this from time to time okay, but its every race! I drive without aids and I always aim for three stars, it can get very frustrating catching up especially with the unforgiving kart races with the controller. Anyone else feel the same way lol?

Sometimes there is. I entered the 550pp touring car event in a Megane Trophy at Bathurst and for the last 3 laps it was a 5 way battle between myself, an M3 GT2 '10, M3 GTR, Falken Skyline and Audi A4 DTM. 0.2 of a second between myself and 2nd place.

In races with a wide-ranging grid, the fastest cars are at the head of the pack. Because you need to fight your way past slower cars, the leaders get the opportunity to stretch their legs before you get to them. As for karting, be smooth and don't let go of the stick (I can hear people online letting go of the stick [to change direction] so that it snaps back to center). Keep your thumb on top of it rather than pushing against the side of it. This will also encourage you to be less aggressive as you won't want it to slip. The bigger hurry you're in; the slower you will be.

And NEVER apply full throttle through a low speed corner! Brake, coast, throttle. High speed corners are fine for full throttle in karts but always be aware of the unequal weight balance. On the subject of weight balance, with the 125cc karts add 5kg and move the balast to the front. You will find it is far more stable. For some reason though it makes the 125 shifter karts even worse! I'm yet to find a weight balance that improves the shifter karts.

The only really close and true racing I feel is with the Karts because you all start together off the starting line. The rest of the car races are more like the seasonal events where you are chasing down the lead cars rather then actually racing them. IMO

1st place isn't ahead alone most of the time and I don't feel it's too far ahead as I have a feeling that towards the end of the race they get handicapped anyway and you can easily win the race. I mean, I've been using SLS GT3 for a race where V12 LMR appeared as well and I couldn't cut its lead more than from 18 to about 10 seconds in first 3 laps, then I just started gaining about 2-3 seconds per checkpoint.

That actually makes a lot of sense. As I have been progressing in career mode seems like the pattern I mentioned earlier does not happen as often. The kart races really requires a lot of patience, I found that taking a break and trying again works really well as I begin to take a smoother approach with the joysticks. And then.... hands begin to sweat. lol

You can always exit and enter the race until you have two of the same cars high up in the line-up. They should stay relatively close together :P
Anyway, the fastest car in the line-up will always be ahead by the time you pass the grannies at the back. Unless you get in a one-make or karts, this is how the game is programmed.

my experience is that the first 2 are mostly sticking together, and as soon as you get to place 6, the rest gets really quick behind, same thing happens when you get to place 3, so there is like mostly 3 groupes that stick together

Dunno... Feels like "Improved AI" means something different at PD's HQ.

Rolling starts, no pimped AI cars, practically letting you win etc. etc.
I kept posting negative's to a minimum on this forum.
But the disapointment is getting bigger every day.

Maybe because the PS3 hasn't got the power to render all cars on track at the same time, and that's why we always tend to get them in bunches of 3 or 4.

It's because Kaz (even 15 years into the series) still refuse to put any real effort into the AI. Those of you who think it's because of giving you a "challenge" are just kidding yourselves IMO. Anyone who has been racing long enough either via console or even PC SIM racing, should be able to spot "Lazy AI programming".

Kaz has stuck "stubbornly" to "catch the fox" racing with the AI. It's just a very lazy way of programming AI (and to be fair GT's not the only title that's been faulted with this type of AI). Rather than actually attempt to program competitive AI, Kaz will load the grid in such a way to "appear" competitive. You start almost dead last having to weave your way through a grid of AI that's so poorly coded it's not even funny. The head AI vehicle is coded to just freakin blast off creating an IMPOSSIBLE and very UNREALISTIC lead on the grid (ie: chasing down the fox).

I think it's disgraceful to be honest. Those of us who have been with the series now since the beginning have been along for the ride for FIFTEEN YEARS. Fifteen years later and Kaz clearly has shown that he doesn't give a damn about making the AI "properly" competitive. Sorry, but it is what it is. There's NO EXCUSE for the AI in GT6 to be the way it is after the series has marked its fifteen year anniversary. Kaz has had fifteen years to get it right. Fifteen years, multiple platforms, and on part 6 of the series and the AI is still garbage.

Sorry, just my opinion (and I'm sure others agree, but just won't come out and say it). I think GT fans should powder Kaz's backside less and start railing his a** for what we see in a title that's been out fifteen years.

What he^^^ said. It's by design on PD's part, to make the game more accessible to casual gamers. PD has a "big brother" type of philosophy when it comes to game design. They like to decide what's best for us, like SRF on Seasonals, rather than giving us options. You can put a difficulty slider on Arcade Mode, why not on ASpec/Offline? Makes no sense but then a lot of GT game design makes no sense.

Not sure why your so bothered? by last lap they slow right down and you win by miles anyway.

Nice...I was just typing pretty much the same things when your post showed up before I finished...saved me finishing it lol. Agreed, there is no reason for it to be in arcade but not career, can't imagine the programming for it would be much different? And I agree with everything SynthManiac said...it smacks of laziness and complete and utter disregard for the people who buy the game. I can just imagine the discussion: "Should we maybe make the AI better on GT6?" "No, the abhorent AI is not a problem...the problem is that we haven't yet driven on the moon in a lunar vehicle so let's do that instead...they will be thanking us for years"

Sometimes it feels like Kaz is catering more to 12 and 13 year olds in this title. Personally I think anyone who actually posts on this forum in support of the AI behaving this way is hurting us even more. This is supposed to be a driving/racing simulator. The developer is "supposed" to have track experience and along with that "should simply know better". There are RULES in racing and Kaz knows this. If the rules were properly applied there'd be very few AI cars crossing the finishing line due to being flagged out.

Whats even more insulting is when the AI feels that you should be ahead. All of a sudden in the apex of a turn your jamming the breaks with a grill full of the car in front of you. The car was just doing mach6 and now he is so slow your grandmother could pass him on her hover-round.

Seriously! It's inconsistent!

I've found it to be a mix. It may depend more on what cars are in the race. If is one outstanding car in the race it will take a substantial lead. If they are very close in tune they can stick like glue.

I also have seen where the lead car tends to slow once out clearly in front until you catch them. Then if you pass them they will immediately turn up the speed and pass you back if you hesitate even once or slip up only slightly.

If you look closely at the grids in career mode, the game puts the fastest cars out in front, with the slowest AI car(s) starting behind the player.
It's not uncommon for the fastest car from a grid to be quite a bit better than the rest, and because it will also start in front, it will gain a big lead.
