why is Group 2 japanese only

Hi, guys, I'm wondering why Gr.2 has only 3 cars an the 3 of them are japanese. Does anyone know the reason for this? Is it a BoP thing? is it that these cars are PRO and Gr.3 are AM? The new Ford GT (which is not even in the game) would totally fit in this category, as it would the R8 competing in Blancpain Super Gt and the Ferrari 488 (and 458 before it).

Any insight on this?

Not a big Motorsports guy are ya? As others have said, Gr 3 is essentially a category that depicts GT3/GTE cars just like Gr 4. depicts touring cars of various degree and probably should have sub groups (same with Gr 1.).

The Gr 2. stuff is faster than GT3 but slower than the top tier protos, thus exactly what you'd see in real life. The only other cars that could possibly be added to Gr 2 would be DTM.

So these cars on the Super GT Instagram page are the equivalent of our Gr.3 cars?

Yes, which GT3 cars are slower than SGT 500 cars so...

in gt500 just 3, NSX, Lexus and Nissan GT-R. right? Or you mean the other category, gt300 from the japanese championshiP?

I was referring to the Super GT cars in the wiki link. The older cars in that series are cool as hell.

I'm still holding out for '90s GT1 cars to be added to Gr.2 at some point in the future. Having all four numbered groups covered in the Manufacturer's Cup would be pretty damn awesome.

I'll just leave this here:

Actually no, I watch formula 1 and that's all. I'm a total rookie. I'm starting to discover that there are zillions of categories in motorsport and sometimes they overlap each other. It's a bit chaotic perhaps, but amusing at the same time, such a complex diversity of different cars and classes and competitions. Beautiful.

Glad to see you enjoy more and more of motorsport :D

To be honest, I think GT Sport+this forum+Kie25/TidgneyRacing youtube channels is a cracking combination. I can't remember the last time I had so much fun. Add to that a 50 inch mega plasma with huge speakers... oh my god, best birthday I can remember in a long time. Lots of fun. And to make it even better, Le Man 24 next weekend.

with the inclusion of group c cars in the Gr.1 class, hopefully these gt500's could be added to gr2 as well, although the old gt500s are more like the Gr.3 class

Gr. 2 can be enriched with several other cars with performances similar to the Super GT (GT500).

In addition to the three cars of the last years of the DTM (Mercedes, BMW and AUDI), the old cars of the JGTC (GT500) of the first decade of the 21st century as well.
Fortunately, the JGTC cars (season 2003) were a bit faster in Fuji, for example, than the 2016 Super GTs.

LMP2 cars could also be added. They have similar laptimes.

However, what I would like the most would be the inclusion of the old cars of the FIA GT1:

Sallen S7, Maserati MC12, Mercedes CLK GTR, Mclaren F1 GTR, Ferrari F40 GTR, Ferrari F50 GTR, Porsche 911 GTR, Panoz Esperante, Lotus Elise GTR, Nissan R390, Toyota Gt-One etc.

Currently, the Mclarens P1 GTR and Senna GTR could also be added.

I believe that the Bugatti VGT, Audi VGT could get better in Gr. 2. Physically cars have more logic in Gr. 2 than in Gr. 1. IMO.

If it were allowed, PD could create a Gr. 2 version of Lambo Veneno and La Ferrari, just as it did with some cars in Gr. 3 and Gr. 4.

I just checked and DTM cars are in the same weight but about 400hp, that is a big gap with the 600 of the 3 japanese.

The Ford LMGTE Pro has 550 and similar weight, it would fit. The strange thing is that the Ferrari 458 in gr. 3 looks like the GT3 and GTE Pro car.

Why a Japanese category only? isn't it a bit weird?
Gr.2 cars are at least 5 seconds faster than Gr.3 cars at most tracks in the game. Go test a gr2 and gr3 car at the same track and see for yourself.

They are both just silhouette cars yes, but as far as their performance goes, they are not similar, not even close and I really really hope PD won't merge them together (if DTM cars ever come) because they would have to nerf them really bad.

Finally - someone who gets it!

GT500 and DTM are as different as chalk and cheese. They share a common chassis (apart from the NSX which has it's own unique chassis) to keep costs down - NOT to make them compatible. A GT500 actually is closer to 700bhp now despite what is "claimed". Their aero is off the scale. From the waist down there are practically no limits to what a manufacturer can do. And they are light - really light.
In comparison a DTM has approx 200 bhp less, more weight and weaker aero. Last year they did a showcase at Motegi with the DTMs hot lapping before the GT500s. They were 4 seconds a lap slower. That's huge. If ever DTM was included in the game a balance of power would be an insult to GT500s and motorsport in general. Much like adding a Megane Trophy V6 to Gr4!
