Why is it quicker to shift with paddles in a non paddle/auto car

then it is with clutch and h-box? theres no point in clutch and six speed shifter with this game as its actually slower to shift with them in a car with a pedal clutch and 5/6 speed manual box.

i noticed this in licenses, the trial mountain mx5 license where i was just missing gold, used the paddles and its like instant shifts more or less(gold straight away), to do it that fast with my six speed would make it break very quickly.

they need to fix this

no, they don't.

Paddles ARE faster than manual gearboxes. It's been that way for years now. Most Ferrari's and Lambo's use paddles now because they're lightning fast.

I still prefer shifting with my right hand though.

I dont think that was his point. I think he means using the paddles on his wheel is faster than using the 'box, even for cars that dont have paddles

because paddles are faster, period. If you drive a car that doesn't have paddles in real life, don't use them?

He wasnt using them, he was using the shifter, which made him miss out on Gold. But it shouldnt be that an MX5 with a manual box can shift as quick as a Ferrari with paddles, though they all seem to be the same

all paddle shifts are the same in GT5. Maybe PD thought we wouldn't notice or care. I don't care. I don't use paddles unless a) I'm feeling lazy and b) they are a real-life option

You can gold that MX5 test without paddles.

Shifting with paddles, just in cars that REALLY allow it. Sequential gears...the same. So on...

This is how i play it. More immersive. I think.
I dont feel ok, usind paddle shift in a miata. :S

I don't think that PD's decision has anything to do with whether or not the real car has paddles or a stick. In my opinion, the reason that paddles are activated on the wheel, regardless of car, is most likely due to the fact that the shift timing would be the same for those people using a Dual Shock controller (no stick available); every car is a paddle shifter as far as DS users are concerned.

i remember driving a e46 paddle m3 and heck the delay in shifts were unacceptable, clutch and gearstick were much faster, the owner even said well you aint driving a enzo when i mentioned it too him, only recently have paddles become as fast as clutch in affordable cars like the evo10 although i havent driven one i hear the shifts are quick.

forza 3 has it to my liking, if you use paddles in a non paddle car its noticeably slower then a clutch shift,(i havent played forza loads but if i remember correctly, the only cars that can paddle shift as fast as a manual with clutch were the high end race machines) first thing i used to do in forza was to upgrade the gear box because you can shift so quick with clutch that the standard and stage 1(and i think sometimes stage 2) would crunch.

ahhh i guess im just miffed at people being able to get most of the clutch advantage by just nudging their finger while others have to steer with one hand move a gear leaver and press a pedal all while braking or accelerating.

yes fitftw you can beat the license without paddles, i was only .002 off gold, when i used paddles i came .80-100 under the gold time. my point being its actually quicker to use paddles in a car that has a manual box and clutch.

test drive unlimited had it just like mr turismo is saying

Eh, VW and Audi have had DSG transmissions since 2005 that have always been much faster than a traditional stick setup.

i dont know but come to think of it, i must have drove that m3 over 3 years ago. well thats recent in my eyes:)

if you drive a new E92 M3 the paddles are quicker than a stick which is why they don't want to make sticks anymore (but their core market still demands it). a friend of mine had the old M3 with the SMG paddles and it did suck, I much preferred my M Coupe with stick. But now I would rather go paddles like I have in my C63, especially in traffic I don't miss the clutch at all. But on open roads I will admit I do miss it a little. 0-60 tests also show paddles in most cars are 0.1-0.2 seconds quicker than the stick verions.
