Why is there not a proper practice mode for performing timed laps?

Why does GT6 not have a standalone practice mode for testing & setting up cars on any circuit like GT5 had?

The only offline Time Trial mode is under arcade, but this doesn't correctly add mileage to your selected car. Also it doesn't use your own avatar in the car which can spoil the photo mode pictures we can take.

I used the "single player" mode. I dont usually practice outside of an event, and when I did, I did'nt notice the wrong avatar or the incorrect milage added, but if this is true what you say, its definitley something they NEED to implement soon!

Sorry for the double post here, but I just found there is a "Test Drive" option in the garage menu. So, yeah.... there is a feature like that already.

GT2 had test run with each event, GT1 & GT3 had qualify with each event, GT4 was more selective only having it with series events. Of the series GT3 I preferred, having a warmup lap prior to the qualifying lap was good. Having practice & a timed qualifying would be a much better solution. Getting a chance to get familiar both the car & track for a particular event, making tuning adjustments, then going straight to the event makes for a better race.

If PD could tighten up PP difference between cars, leaving less of a chance for a rabbit would make for a better races.

That's kind of a pointless feature isn't it? Why test drive a car you already own? Test driving is supposed to be for cars you don't own, so you can see how they drive and figure out if you want to purchase it or not, instead of plunking down hard to come by credits and finding out the car you bought is an understeering pig or a tail happy clown car.

The problems with the test drive from the garage are that your lap times don't seem to count anywhere and you can't add tire wear or fuel consumption. It's good for setting up suspension, gear box, tire choice, etc. though

EDIT: and there's what Johnnypenso just mentioned too...it is a huge misnomer. It really should just be called practice

You can "test drive" cars from the garage menu where you can change your racing gear.

I can agree that ist somewhat stupid to call it "test drive" because of what @Johnnypenso said. but still, its there...
however, I was not aware the times did'nt count... thats pretty stupid...

It doesn't seem to record them anywhere that I've seen. I think it counts towards your mileage though where as arcade mode does not (correct me if I'm wrong)

I trued the test drive to work out tyre wear and fuel consumption. After 5 laps of Bathurst, my tyres were perfect and my fuel was full. I had to set up an online room in practice only mode in the end. I ended up with minor traffic, in which I was trying to avoid (not that it affected me nor do I want to discourage others). It would have been nice to ensure 100% that your tuning and experimenting isn't ruined by online trolls.

Brilliant. I never thought of doing that. Thanks for the idea

This is true but as others have said it doesn't record your lap times. The Arcade Time Trial mode and the Practice feature in GT5 both kept a list of your 10 best times on a track. I used this all the time.

There is however a glitch in GT6s Arcade Time Trial to enable the cars mileage to be added to your car in the garage. After doing some driving in Arcade Time Trial enter the car settings icon, then exit again. When you then quit the Arcade Time Trial and go back to the main menu the mileage will have been added to your car.....but I am sure its a bug, and you still have your avatar in the manufacturers designated overalls (my other minor annoyance).

I would just like a mode that enables lap times for multiple cars to be recorded using cars from your garage (top 10 times at least, more would be better), recording the mileage correctly, and using your own driver avatar. This was in GT5; called Practice I think.

And another thing: I'd like to again be able to sort cars in our garage by mileage undertaken. You could also do this in GT5. This lets me see the cars I have given least attention to, and thus then choose them for more running.
