Why max out your cars?

Smoked cheese... okay... wtf is smoked cheese???

There are many kinds of cheese in the world. Some of them have been smoked. There are just plain old cheese and then there are special cheeses with stuff added to them... Just like cars ;)
 
To answer the OP; I just enjoy messing around with cars and going fast. It's that simple for me. If I want to drive a stock production car, I will. If I want to drive with minimal tunes, I will. If I want to see how hard I can push one of the many cars to the maximum tune and then the limit, I will. I'll enjoy it all. :)

Sums it up for me, very good post. I have a very varied mixture of tuned/untuned cars and I'm happy in both.

With regard to online racing - of which I haven't done that much so can only speculate - surely an improved race options would sort this out? A PP limit coupled with an 'untuned' option. That'd get rid of your X2010/X2011's and your maxed out racecars and allow for a more level playing field.
 
If you have the diff setting all the way down to 5 you wont get the wheel spin and you not getting the full performance of the car which is still defeating the purpose.

Dude, tuning a car won't make it worse,or handle worse, this is NOT TRUE. Not with every car...
 
What do you have to prove your point? If you put a bad driver in a 1,000,000 bhp car, they will constantly keep spinning the car and crashing into walls.
The good driver with 1 bhp will win because they will have good car control.

Try putting an 8 year old in a Ferrari up against a fully-licensed racing car driver in your average family car. Who would win? The racing car driver would because he knows where to brake, what the driving line is etc. But the 8 year old would know none of this and probably would crash/spin in the first corner. Put the 8 year old child in a car with a clutch and h-shifter and you'll be buying out the markets for clutches ;).

This perfectly showcases a race between me and my Mom, I had a stock Type 1 Beetle, my Mom had a Lister Storm V12 Race Car (Fully Tuned). I won because i can drive without crashing. (granted, my mom was faster until the first corner :):lol::))
 
Because it's fun.

In GT1, I enjoyed saving up enough money to have a 900+ HP Mitsubishi GTO and destroying everything with it. Which is a good thing because I found it quite difficult to earn money in that game.

....what is the point of tuning the cars to the max, mainly the race cars? Yes I understand to compete with others due to all doing it. Is the competion really that good? Or is it so bad you need the power to get out front and not your skills?

I tend not to tune the racing cars too much but, it is a case of everyone one doing it. Now we have a PP limitation, I find it much closer and fair.

As far as road cars are concerned, because I like to :sly:👍

I mod all my cars as I would in real life. Intake, full exhaust, and maybe a stage 1 upgrade for some extra bolt ons, depending on the car. I probably have only 6 or 7 fully modded street cars. I cant stand cars with all the weight removed and 700hp on racing softs. They all.end up driving the same.
 
I have yet to tune a race car. There are a few cars Ive tuned to the max, just to see how it would perform. Some of them are to keep up with the typical cars people run too. Its fun taking a car you dont see much and beating people in their "better" cars that most everyone uses because they are known to be good/are easier to drive.

Also, if I had the money in real life, I'd probably tune the crap out of some of my cars too. I wish there was more advanced tuning options in GT5, like fuel mapping, boost, etc...
 
I have been playing since GT. It's always been my habit to max out the power as I tune cars, but I always make a few versions of car I like with max power and usually one where I don't add power, but tune other parts of the car. Max power is fun, but the car usually becomes a bit of a chore to keep on the track.

Some cars are just legendary for being tuned to amazing heights. Take the Supra, that car is known for it's aftermarket performance. And some cars are just funny to max tune. Who expects some of these super minis to out drag a sports car ya know?
 
ok. I'll say this, when you get beat by someone, you try to find a faster alternative than what you are driving. thats why I max out my cars. When you learn how to tune it will all make sense.

You are very wrong on that. Test every car you have tuned and the same one un-tuned. In some cases pending on track the un-tuned car is faster through certain section than the tuned car. There’s no way to sway my decision either, I’ve done to many miles testing this.

Even though the new PP system has brunt the car closer together it still allowed class cars to close together. Today I watched a guy driving an R-35TC keep up with a GT-ONE with no trouble. I don't see the reasoning why a GT-3 car should be out running or keeping up with a LMP or C Class car. Yes ever one want to see what this car would do against this car and so on. Now once you find this out then what? Seeing how many times or how easy it is to when in that tuned car? Who cares, would you rather put your driving skills up against another driver or the performance of the car. To me driving a fully tuned car the car is doing 95% of the work and the driver 5%. Yes you’re driving it around the track doing everything to keep it on the track at those speeds. All you doing is guiding the car not driving it and if you think otherwise then go do some testing.

Has anyone tried power to weight?

try driving a VW Sambabus on CS. then try driving a DB9 on RS tires.

even though the DB9 should be faster all around, the VW will be easier to take around the track at high speeds because you don't have to put any effort into controlling all that *J.Clarkson Voice* POWAAAAAHHHH. but in the DB9 you have to watch out with throttle becuase of the SPEEEEEEEEEEEEEED

Tuned cars need drivers that have restraint. basically: if you have more power you have to adjust your driving to handle that power.

you can't hop out of a stock SLS and into a super tuned one using the same driving technique.
 
On the other hand driving slow cars have their own challenges like maintaining the speed and momentum of the car. Both fast and slow cars are a lot of fun to drive :)

What track? Real life? That isn't a realistic scenario either way.

Eight year old versus a professional racer is a good way of putting it (not realistic though, which is why it's a good example). Have them race on Sarthe and the kid will first get stuck in the "sand", then he'll crash at the end of the straight.

A Ford Model T will beat a totaled Veyron.

Funny thing is I actually watched a father as his 8 (?) year old son trying out the Gamescom demo in 2010 in Cologne. Guess what. The kid did rather well, his feet barely touching the pedals and he could merely see over the wheel. The father steamed off with a red head. Happens to be on Le Sarthe, too.

Other than that, Vettle commented on the Liana as it lacking power to cover up any mistakes. Which happens to be my sentiments exactly. Just think back to the Expert Seasonals and to some of the reactions.
 
I don't like to tune race car at all, maybe just rs tires. If I drive GT500 car a want to drive it like in real life. In real life that car have 500 hp so I want to drive him with same hp in GT. If I want some race car with 650+ hp I will use LMP\ Group C car or GT1 car and not tuned Alfa 155 DTM.

I never max out my cars. I only tune my cars if I can't win a race with the stock settings. Cars should be driven in their natural beauty.
 
I drive the Car in its stock form first (since GT2). After that I buy all non power and weight changing parts for the Car.
Drive it again and adjust the Settings. (Sometimes, but not very often, I leave out the FC-Tranny because of the whine you get).

My max-tuning is only parts you can remove => no Engine Stages, Weight Reductions etc.
But I like having multiple Models (1 Stock and one where I do above things).

Complete max tuning destroys the Car (For me) and the Cars feel almost the Same.
If you drive them stock all cars have their own "personality".

Edit: But I do max tune some Cars for example the SRT-4. 600+ hp in a FF-Car ?? Thats so fun to drive.
 
Maxing cars is fine, yeah it's no longer got original characteristics but it's the driver's choice.

Some people say a good driver will be able to win with less power, if the good driver has more power, he can beat the silly fool who kept their car stock in a race :P
