It's not Auto-X, it's Gymkhana. Going into reverse is something the course sometimes oblige you to do, because of how tight it is. First time I saw this I was laughing so hard I was in tears.

Does anyone else find it interesting that in the United States we aren't as cramped for space, physical realestate, so we do things like NASCar where they have huge 3 mile loops and drive really fast with a bunch of cars, but in places like Japan they are a little more crowded so their sports are more like Gymkhana where the course is about half a mile long, all on top of itself, and cars go one at a time.

I just find it interesting how different sports evolve in different places based on the environment.

I think Nascar was more of a need for hill billies to vent anger, not really an issue of "we have alot of space for alot of cars" its more like "give them a LONG straight to build up speed, then make them hit a corner all at once and see what happens"

So true, every once in a while they bring in some real racers for one of the few road courses, then it can be more entertaining. Drag racing is for auto enthusiasts who have ADD. One second the car is flying 300mph the next the engine is being torn down then boom another car is up.

Drag racing is boring unless you got a car quicker than aobut 8 seconds, i mean c'mon, hey look i have skill, im changing gears at the exact right titme & luanching jsut right. thats the extent of it, its so dull idiot kids take it to the streets to give it mroe 'exitement'. Now nascar, it has its +'s. You go fast...continueously...for the whole race...really fast...the whole time. thats about it for the +'s. Its funny how its considered skillful. Hmm, no, I consider being quick around Bathurst as skill, and its safer to, becuase changing lanes doesnt result in a 20 car pileup, or hitting one wall in a seemingly routine crash (if you can call a crash that) results in death.

Now that ive finished my rant ive realised i could not be more off topic if i wanted to be. So now I'll rant about ricers.

Now I dont consider every japanese performance car automatically 'rice'. the first video is an an example of rice, although there are plenty worse, this is bad enough. Yep, nice sik lookin low ride, too bad that doesnt automatically mean a good PERFORMANCE setup. In terms of a actually good suspension setup... thats a total croc, its a disgrace, get a freakin life! The R32 Skyline that goes past the shot at the end has no visual upgrades, does not even look lowered at a glance, but everyone knows the R32's Skyline's suspension is more than capable of crisp handling & control right out of the box, why you would rip it out and put in air suspension I dont know. No visual cues whatsoever, looks stock, i wonder what the chances are its had numerous engine, driveline, exuast mods, as well as maybe a suspension tune up (slamming it aint a tune up!), some new performance tires, not ultra low profile, the same size as stock by lookin at it justabout, that is a REAL car enthusiast, no rice, just business.

I had a chance to see that video earlier today while I was at school. I remember what "Sports Car Revolution's" Kaz said about "rice rockets." One part of what he said was that the car isn't even set up. I'm not going to go on a tangent of "rice rockets" and muscle cars, but I think if the guy or girl in the video is going to try out auto cross, at least mod the car up to take the autocross section fluidly. I think the driver had to use reverse a lot, so if you're going to try this stuff out, you'll have to stay on course, pay attention to where the cones are placed, then try to drive around them as best as possible. If in a rear-wheel drive machine, don't lose control of the car.

I'm not really about such sport compacts as about upsetting muscle cars. Since I respect a broad spectrum of automobiles, if I had (in this video example) an old Honda Prelude, first off, I'd modify performance to where it's suitable for circuit racing, but want to keep things as street legal as possible. In Gran Turismo terms, you could call what I'm talking about as a "Semi-Racing" setup. With the driver in the video, I wouldn't spend too much on graphics and bodykits more than performance. Why so? I wouldn't want anyone to make an ass out of me, and no matter how a car looks, it's about its performance.

I don't know. Maybe the owner wanted looks enhancement with a few performance upgrades. But I'm not going to be like "stickers add more horsepower," or anything like that. He/She just didn't drive or set up the car too well. And if the car breaks, all the money on bodykits and such as well as custom paint would mean a big hole in your wallet. All I'd say is- mod carefully.

god i'd die at one of those events... makes me SOOOO glad that i rallycross ... playin in the dirt is seems so much more fun then that G??? something or another event... u bearly need anyone to even watch the course.. at our rally's we have atleast 30 people out on course... Although.. i'm tempted to try a few SLMP or AutoCross events this year... but IMHO rally is the way to go

then yea it was funny as hell even if you are required to go reverse (which the prelude did)
some tracks dont require to go reverse, but the prelude did because he overshot.

after watching that video, i came up with a conclusion that FWDs suck at Autocross/Gymkhana's but after my bro brought me another vid, this time of a smaller FWD based car with an actual good driver, i was somewhat impressed, it definatly looks harder because the guy had to ebrake ALOT.

but in comparison to 510s and Starlets, ill take those for AutoX'ing/Gymkhanas over Ricer FWD cars.

I love me a good autocross, but that Gymkhana looks ugly. I have a hard enough time figuring out how to guide myself through an autocross course, much less know how many times I'm supposed to loop around which cones.

Would be a neat point, but gymkhana developed in the US, with the old old old old cars, like model T's and stuff. That's where reversing came - you'd have to pull into a box, and back out, etc - was hard because of the crap tastic brakes and such on those cars.


Someone doing the course in the Prelude video that didn't suck wouldn't have had to reverse at all, it was all cause he sucked.

But like someone said, atleast he tried.
