Why spec 2.0 made me like Standards MORE than Premiums

Haha I wonder if I am the only person in the world to feel this way. :)

The blacked out cockpit view of the premiums is now actually usable to me since its a lot easier to ignore the out of whack steering animations compared to a fully lit premium. This means I am less likely to get sick and disgusted at GT5 by playing non 1:1 animation cockpit view and thus gentlemen the Standards have actually become more admired by me. I would hate to see them turned into premiums since grandpa simpson would be visible turning the wheel. In fact if a genie came to me now and said all cars in Gt5 will be turned into Premium I would reject it. Heck I would even pay to buy Standard interiors over Premium ones.

I just wanted to see if anyone else feels this way or if this is truly a unique feeling.

Actually it has been quite a funny journey seeing swarms of people lust after Premium cars and loathe Standards like a disease, and I have laughed laid back and have never cared or wanted new Premium cars as their Premiumness has been worthless to me since launch.

I suspect this will be the case for the life of GT5 and possibly Gt6 have because PD ruined cockpit view for me the second they decided not to use a 1:1 steering animation.

I always did prefer Premium cars only because they had the same views as Standards and additionally you could paint them change the wheels they looked better etc, but the cockpit view has been a no fly zone for me. It actually upsets to think PD have worked hard on all these interiors they are thre and I cannot enjoy them simply because someone decided not to allow 1:1 animations.

But now that standards now have cockpits where the wheel is harder to see the have suprassed Premiums in my view.

Anyway long live blacked out interiors. (Or fix the damn steering animation lol)

I still prefer the look of premium interiors. But I still don't like to use the interior view, no matter whether the car is premium or standard. All the shaking gives me a headache.

Blacked out interior is ok... not seeing the front of the car starts to give me a very creepy feeling while driving some of the standards...

I hate how your guy just gets thrown around inside a race car even though hes clearly strapped in with a race-inspired TAKATA harness! :ouch: Its like he has no seatbelt on at all!

It depends on the car for me, some Premiums like the GT By Citroen are just to busy and I can hardly see the track.

I also feel like I'm sitting the back seat in most cars. I didn't used to use interiors until I discovered an interior zoom option. In my own car I have the steering wheel in front of me at arms length and the windshield is just beyond the dash, with my gauges close enough to glance at. In my living room I'm at least as far as third row seats in a Minivan away from my TV and than you have all the interior stuff going on and than the windshield with the track.

I also feel like i lose a little freedom because i can't shoulder check, glance at a side mirror or look around a curve while i'm steering.

I liked the Blacked out interiors, but they should have let us see the front of the cars too... That way would be great.

I feel also that interior view on standards is very usable. Steering animations should be 1:1 of course but for some reason very few developers see this as issue. I was previously very vocal about steering animation problem in GT5:P days but I did not manage to get enough support for wanting this kind of thing. I got bored of actively complaining about this. Maybe PD just thinks new Nascar models are more important.

the shaking is realistic, I like it. The Steering animation isn't

It isn´t as the whole image is shaking instead of just the head. You have no chance to focus on a point at high speed like you can in real life.

I think they missed the point by adding a target to the ego-camera. If they would just adding a camera target 20 to 50m in front of the car, the whole perspective would be something different, because the camera would move arount that focus point and you would be able to see the track.

For me it's almost the same, i like the interior view of Standards, for me it's pretty good.

Me too. I don't like Standards more than Premiums, but I am pretty psyched about the blacked-out cockpit in Standards, and I agree with the OP that this is in some ways better than Premiums. Less distracting. I like Premium interiors, though. Hell I like it all!

I dont have steering problems with the premiums... Every turn i make with the wheel he makes on screen to the same angle and degree. That is unless its under 270 degrees of course but most turns are if youre going over 20 mph.

Do you have a newsletter I could subscribe to?

That suggestion right there would lead me to using interior views again. As it is now, my eyeballs do not appreciate the shaking, if the headaches I get are any indication.

I often try it for some time, especially if the car isn´t running over 180mph too often. But I can´t use it a whole race long as the shaking lets me loose the feedback of the car....headache included.

Someone should leave a message on Kaz´ voice mail.

The wheel animation has never bothered me. I am too busy looking out the windshield. I look at it more of a frame over the picture that is the course I'm driving, and when I look at art I spend my time looking at the picture; not the frame. I suppose having an actual wheel in my hands may affect my view on the matter, though.

I sort of agree with you on the animations, at first I found it off putting but I got used to it. I could have sworn I saw early footage of GT5 with the driver crossing his arms when steering.

But the shaking is NOT realistic. The car would shake yes, but the view of the road also shakes...big no no.

I love the blacked out view from inside a standard car, there are no iffy shadows, no faulty animations..

I really like the cockpit view from standards. It is much more fun to drive like this, especially cars like your avatar Parnelli Bone :dopey:

They have clearly put some effort into modelling the interior, the stand holding the in car mirror is usually a different shape or size. Depending on the car.

I've seen that footage too. It looked awkward as hell though. I think it was in a ferrari and they were talking about fixing shadows and the reflections in the mirrors. I think they maybe talked about the arms too.

I would also like to know what this means!

Presumably it means the steering wheel in-car would match 1:1 the angle of your wheel (logitec, whatever). If you turn your wheel more than100 degrees or whatever, and you need to move your hands, it would do that as well.

As for a camera that looked ahead, it's in there. Go into chase cam when in a kart or roof cam in the F2007/F10 and you'll notice the driver looking at the racing line, looking through the corners like a good driver. His head bounces around with bumps and gearshifts and he leans with lateral loads as well.

The cockpit camera inherits ALL of those movements, bar the look-to-apex, as it's sometimes called. It can be good, it can work, but it's 50/50 as to whether someone will like it, or just look into the corner themselves. Widescreen displays help a lot (otherwise you just see the A pillar). Go find some Race07/GTR Evolution footage and see what you think.

I thought so! At the very least the could have had the wheel and hands animate around to maybe 180 degrees left/right. CARS has a good animation lined up for this.

Yea, here it is the video footage for anyone who wants to check it out...

I have used more standards now than premiums, and what I've noticed too is that these are new interiors and not the ones from GT PSP. If I recall correctly the Panoz Esperante view is different in the GT PSP and you saw the hood of some cars as well.
