Why still 180 Steering?

They just could have copied LFS animations as option for wheel users. Or use the ones in GT4/GTHD as they were fine.

I have to wonder if GT5s focus on in cabin replays and shots of the full driver had a hand in this... maybe they showed some uglies up close that other games get away with because you don't ever see them in much detail.

Since PD focuses on realism of the car and interior they probably thought gamers would think they were actually in the car if you could see the drivers hands than without the hands. Personally I would rather see the hands and arms than not seeing them. Makes it more immersive imo. But I would still like to have the 900.

it's not so bad, with some improvements could be fine. :)👍

So far it looks like they just need to combine some assets to get it in there....

How come they just didn't get one of those drivers they have in their promo videos and MOCAP them, like Seb or etc.

I think the reason for not making 900° synced animation is because the big majority of console players are using a gamepad. And you can throw the stick from one side to the other (full steering lock-to-lock) a few times in a second. And that would look ridiculous. So they skipped that for the pad players.

To me, the whole driver animation is lame. It is a racing game. But it looks like a sunday afternoon drive by my grandfather wearing gloves. And that is especially sad because it destroys the immersion and makes the detailed interior view useless - at lea#st for driving.

It's pretty simple, really. The reason console driving simulators don't feature 900-degree steering wheel rotation is the fact that some people use a controller, not a racing wheel. If you're taking a high-speed corner using a controller and push the analogue stick all the way to one side, it would be fairly disconcerting for that to result in full lock on the steering wheel. Whereas PC simulators, such as Live For Speed, can feature this because even those who aren't lucky enough to own a wheel use a mouse to steer.

No, that's not the case at all. It was absolutely fine in GT4 and in GTHD (see below). You never could get to full lock in an instant nor could you ever in a high speed corner. The game limits the amount the driver steers based on your driving speed, which makes it realistic and similar to the amount you'd use in real life. Therefore if you hold the analog stick at full lock then the driver will only turn the wheel to the point that is seen as realistically possible/necessary. The only time you will ever see full lock in GT4 and GTHD is when you're stopped or doing out of the ordinary maneuvers or drifting (which is realistically represented).

The movement is no different with 180 or 900 degree steering with a controller. The turning inputs are never 100% real time, but instead you push the analog stick and then watch the driver steer as quickly as he can (realistically and not too quickly). The only difference with 900 degrees in GT4 and GTHD was that it took a bit longer to get to full lock (than 180 lock in GT5P), just like it does in real life.

Furthermore, the gear changes in the car are never accurately performed anyway. You shift the car with the controller/wheel and then the driver proceeds to move to do the action, even though the car has already shifted gears. If that is acceptable (which it has to be, cause you can never always predict gear changes), then the controlled steering is certainly acceptable when using a controller (again, whether 900 or 180 the speed is the same).

And here we see the speed is just fine. Very realistic, and in fact it could be done even more quickly in real life (although it might look more awkward to do that).

In the end, what I'm saying is that 900 degree steering really needs to come back. They could tweak it a bit since some people seem to think it looks a bit awkward with the arms flailing, although IMO it looks great and I don't know what there is to really complain about. Arms certainly flail around in real life when you're quick with the wheel. Plus the only time you will ever see the arms flail about while racing is if you wipeout or perhaps during some hardcore drifting (where the hands moving around should be the last of your worries). You'd rarely ever even see the arms cross over (only in very tight hairpins like the one in Monaco). Either way, GT4/GTHD 900 degree steering is infinitely better than the current 180.

I don't know if PD is going for a more casual experience, but it really screws around with my head when I see my insomniac GT5P driver going 20 degrees for a turn when I turned the wheel past 180 :grumpy:. I either ignore his hands or switch out of cockpit. I hope they change it to have BOTH options for both 180 and 900, being that I have the 900 for me and 180 for my brother when we split-screen.
