why the lack of sentras in gt series

Actually, in reading some reviews...it sounds like the SRT-4 is possibly road car than the Sentra.

"Inhaling a track or mountain pass, that's where the SRT-4 wants to be. It resolutely glues all four to the corners, displaying none of the wild tail wagging we noted in the R/T."

vs the SE-R:

"The car stuck through the course through curves, but the breakaway point was never easy to pin down and wholly unforgettable once it was hit. Under braking,..., the rear end was always fidgeting."

(C&D, May 2003)

However, looking at some more recent reviews (I think Road&Track takes the 2004 models out this month) it sounds like the Sentra has had its suspension tuned up considerably, and the SRT-4 tuned down.

Sentra:
"Immediately after turn-in, the rest of the car smoothly follows the front's lead with confidence. There's noticeably less roll than stock and even with a foot full of mid-turn throttle, the S-Tune's front end keeps clawing its way around the corner."

SRT-4:
"Go around a corner, however, and this beast's chassis shows its vulnerable underbelly. With way more engine than suspension, it takes some work to go around a corner smoothly. Come in too fast and excessive body roll makes it hard to turn in. Get on the gas too soon and, despite its Quaife limited-slip differential, the front end wants to push off the outside of the turn. "

(R&T, August 2004)

Make what you will of car reviews - I suspect it has to do as much with the driver as anything. Maybe the Road and Track guys just couldn't get the hang of the Dodge. I've only driven a 2003 SRT-4, and it's a badass machine on the straights or in the curves. I'd be hard pressed to find real weakpoints in either of these, but I'm far from a good driver, so perhaps the subtle differences would be more obvious to some of the more experienced racers here.

A Sentras hardly a car to get the pulses going is it?! One thing GT doesn't need is more bland everyday cars, especially if they leave out the 'racing mods' option again.

Agreed. We've already got a ton of "everyday cars" in GT4. Let's get some rare cars that we don't see everyday and still surpirses us when we do see one.

The biggest issue with handling in the SRT is getting the power down on corner exit. The new SE-R doesn't have that problem :P because it's at least 60 hp shy of the SRT. So the Neon driver can just press a little less on the gas pedal.

Besides, that's with stock alignment, and the SRT allows you a fair amount of adjustability at all four wheels. To get any toe in the rear of the SE-R, you need to get a hydraulic jack and a brick wall and bend the axle beam. Not exactly subtle.

there was a sentra in gt2. the sentra is the replacement for the original beetle in mexico, is their best seling car right now. i dont know the the car code number but it is called the tsuru and is based on the last generation sentra. the original se-r will be a great addition to gt4 because it was a very respected car and an innovation in that time. in today standarts i believe the srt-4 is in another league even challenging cars in the next level.

Can't agree more, if they included a Sentra, I'd probably never use it. With all the everyday cars available, the Sentra will just be another car, there's nothing really special about it to make it stand out from the pack for most people. Even in real life, the Sentra isn't a car I'd really consider buying, much less in GT.

i get more bored with supercars than anything else in GT, except for maybe the F1s which are boring after 3-4 races, i look for the underdogs, the cars that are in the shadows of other cars and i see what i can do with them, thats what i love about GT, the underdogs aren't left out of the picture.

I agree with Incubusnb. Even though the super-cars are great to drive, they get kinda boring after a while of whooping the AI's @$$es. The compact cars or other "everyday cars" are better to tune because it's something I could possibly do. I'll never be able to buy a exotic car, let alone be able to tune it after I buy it. I've been eyeing the SE-R for a while, my sister bought a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon GT V6 and I would be able to do some damage with an SE-R I think. I could even race her in GT4 because there are screenshots of the Tiburon already and if the SE-R was in, that would be pretty sweet.

I really missed the Sentra in GT3, it was one of my favourite medium powered car in GT2 and a nice version of the one that competed in the BTCC championship.
The racing modified version looked good.
I hope it will be back in GT4 cause it's a quite popular model ( at least here in Canada ).

may have already been mentioned, but there is a popular amatuer series in the US that runs only sentras....

incubusnb: I agree with you 100%

biased turkey: I had no idea there was a sentra in gt2??? Does anyone have a screenshot of this? I'd love to see it.

Is that the Le Mans version of the Sentra in the background? :)

That's the Sentra LM alright - it's been heavily modified. The design team looked at the original Sentra model and went "You want us to make a LM car out of this? Get bent" and then made a completely new car. Thus the aerodynamics, engine, suspension, brakes, tyres, chassis and numerous other components have all been heavily refined and updated.

After the multimillion dollar development effort, they presented it to potential drivers. The drivers prompty responded, "Driving a Sentra in the Le Mans? Get bent." Unable to find a single driver willing to drive the vehicle, Nissan was forced to sell off the prototypes project in desperation in a firesale to finance the beginnings of the Sentra SE-R. The remaining vehicles are now relegated to the NASA amateur series circuits.

See, this is the kind of automotive history I really want to hear.

We should definitely be responsible for the English translation of GT4 when it comes to the car development histories.

If someone can point me to a link about the rules and procedure how to upload a screenshot on gtplanet I'll be glad to take a snapshot while running GT2 with the Epsx emulator.

I might even post a GT4 scoop: The Denso Supra at ... Suzuka

Apology for the mixup ladies and gents.
Of course there is no Sentra in both BTCC and GT2, It is a Primera. But to me they looks the same except one has 2 doors and the other 4 ( I'm not an expert and never competed in the BTCC ). BUT I remember reading an interview, in a French mag, where Laurent Aiello mentionned that the 1999 Sentra was onre of the best car he ever drove.
And for sure the Primera looks great with the ( gasp ) racing modification.

The sentra would be a good starting car, however after maybe 20-30 (game) days you wouldn't use the car, it's not there because it isn't needed.

Because it isnt needed? Does that mean the mini cooper and the alto works and the civic are needed? I doubt it. The GT series is not just a game, its also a documentation and history of cars, one that we just happen to be able to actively participate in, if you see what Im saying. I disagree with you cojmpletely in regards to the whole "its not there because it isn't needed" idea.

Ever tuned a mini cooper to the maximum?

Yes, and it sucks. Proving my point that 1/4 of the cars in the game are literally pointless, but are there for us to use and test and just to enjoy. They arent necessarily gonna win us any major races. :)

if we excluded every un-needed car from GT4 (un-needed meaning not high-performance stock) you'd be left with a car list of maybe 30-40, most of GT4 is the underdogs

BTW, the Mini sucks, and blows, all at the same time

it's not there because it isn't needed.

So you mean that GT4 shouldinclude only 1 car, the Suzuki Escudo ? ( and a rubber band of course )

I hate drag racing, I hate nascar but I don't mind if GT4 includes a small amount of nascar and drag races.
What I'm afraid is that PD will add new racing series with each iteration of GT. What next: dirt racing ? soapbox racing ?
