why was spa removed i never knew why they removed it,

i saw a video of a crash on spa where a full gird was reduced to about 7 cars i hope that is not the reason

From Spa's website

Due to important construction work required by the FIA, it has not been possible to organise the 2006 Formula 1 Grand Prix.

We therefore look forward to seeing you in 2007. We will keep you informed of the latest stages of development in these works via photo news bulletins throughout the coming season.

Francorchamps wishes you an enjoyable Grand Prix season.

Basicaly the facilities at the circuit were not upto current FIA standards and as such the circuit lost its place in the 2006 calender, the same nearly happend to Silverstone a few years ago.

Spa should be back for next year, as even a single year lost at this great circuit is bad enough.

No man, that crash was 8 years ago, i think they took it off because the pits wer'nt up to date, but its back on the calender next year.

you beat me to it Scaff!! Touche!

I thought it was because they only had 10 pit boxes when they needed 11 for the new season. I may be wrong though.

That's what I've heard, either way the new complex looks pretty good, it was featured in Autosport a couple of weeks back.

Circuit owner of a prospective F1 race: How high?

Question: What was so wrong with it in 2005?
Answer: Nothing.

Both teams and spectators had been complaining about the facilities and access at Spa for a number of years.

Spa (like Silverstone) is an old circuit and to be fair the FIA has cut it some slack in the past, like it or not both of these circuits needed an overhaul.

Or would anyone like to claim that Silverstone was a better circuit to access before the FIA enforced changes? Silverstone needed the work and so does Spa, its better that than lose the venue for good.

Financial issues were also the problem for Spa not to be on the '06 list. (Some guy in the French speaking part promised a 12 million euro deal but blew it). But hey! It's back next year :dopey:

Hilarious posts there kikkie, man, remembers me of the 15 years I lived in Belgium, god, do we Flamish people hate them Wallonia crackheads

I'm looking forward to Spa next year. Always a good race there, well the ones I remember anyway.

Except that Silverstone didn't lose its race, even though has been a boring track to watch races (on TV at least) since the 1991 event.

Maybe the FIA allowed the teams to use the pit lane and access roads used by every other racing car, rather than bunching themselves up in the wedge between La Source and the exit of the Bus Stop chicane, it wouldn't have been such a big deal in the first place.

So... the crash at spa looked like a series of fender-benders to me, and how exactly did it start?

It's hard to tell exactly; David Coulthard possibly ran wide on the exit of La Source, got it a little squirrelly on the wet tarmac, and spun in the narrowest area of the course where the cars are going over 100mph. Naturally, with all the spray thrown up by the cars, nobody could see much of anything...except Riccardo Rosset, who is believed to have purposely driven into the melee for "fun".

Heh, reminds me of your “most proffessional drivers in the world” story.

Belgian Grand Prix organisers have given the go-ahead for reconstruction work on the Spa-Francorchamps track to begin next month.

Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone signed a promotional deal with the circuit last week and, with commercial terms agreed, work is now about to begin on bringing the track up to standard.

Revisions to the Bus Stop chicane, which will now become a right-left chicane, as well as a new paddock and pits complex, will begin on November 6th and will be finished ahead of next September's race date.

As well as improvements for the F1 teams, new public entrances and new grandstands on the start-finish straight, La Source and Eau Rouge are being constructed.

I've seen pictures of how the new 'Bus Stop' area will look and i think the changes will still alow the area to be a good (if not better) overtaking area 👍

The existing GP pit area at Spa is a little on the 'basic' side compared to other more recent GP circuits. The trouble they have with the paddock area at Spa is the lack of space. There really isn't a lot of room between the GP pits on the straight between the bus stop and la source and the other pits between la source and eau rouge. The room they have to play with is on quite a steep slope as well. From what i've seen, they've done a pretty good job, up to this point, with a layered 'multistory' paddock area. Perhaps they'll expand on this they are pretty land locked otherwise.

Yeah that was one hell of a pass by Hakkinen, Zonta must have felt like it was his defining moment, being lapped as Hakkinen passed Schumi..

If you think missing Spa was bad this year, think about Monza. Drivers are considering boycotting (or whatever they do) the race next year due to safety concerns. This would be worse than missing spa.

No it wouldn’t. Monza is an awesome track, but it’s not Spa.
