I may just be deaf but why do so many people care about the sound of the cars? I personally don't care about the sound but I want to know why there are some people that only care about the sounds, especially when the same people want better updates.

Because car lovers love cars not just because they love the look there is the feeling while driving it and of course the sounds they make its a whole package.

Because certain cars have the most amazing exhaust sounds. Like the premium Blitz ER34 or the Chaparral 2J. They're pleasant to listen to, so we care about being able to hear them well.

What a silly thing to say.

Sorry. I just don't understand why people care so much about that stuff. I personally can't tell the difference too much so I am just curious about something I can't really determine.

The reason you can't tell the difference is BECAUSE they are so bad on a lot of cars. That's why we want them improving, we want them to sound as they do in real life.

If this isn't music to your ears you can't be a true car person.

You've not picked the best of examples. What about the Lexus LFA? What about the Ferrari 458 italia? What about the Aston Martin V12 Vantage? (All stock, obviously)

I didn't intend to pick the best examples; I picked examples of the cars with my personal favorite sounds.

The HKS Evo also has an awesome exhaust sound 👍

Because engine noise is a big part of the driving experience.

Nope. Overrated, as usual.

Well, I listen to the car for feedback. Very few cars make peak power at redline, so I like to hear the engine to know when it's time to shift, and if I can't stand the way the car sounds, I rarely use it. I also adjust my driving when I'm hearing too much tire noise.

The link didn't work for me, but I'm guessing it sounds more like an internal combustion engine than music or even a car. Although I enjoy such sounds too, I also look forward to developments in electric cars. Perhaps our definitions of a "car person" are just vastly different.

I'll readily admit that almost all of the GT5 engine sounds dissappoint me. The sound through my stereo speakers with a subwoofer is better than it is through my headphones. Either way, sound in GT5 is too often a large impediment to immersion.

Exactly the reason why I don't drive the V12 Lamborghinis and the Ferrari Enzo. They've the wrong sound samples, and I don't know why, but that just makes me want to avoid them.

I do not know if the OP has heard a proper collection of racecars at full chat, it makes me all giddy!

For the same reason that players want the cars modeled right, for the car performance to be right, for the physics to be right, and for the tracks to be right. We don't want half-arsed crap. We want authenticity.

They improved the engine sounds since the last update and lowered the transmission whine you could also use the stock exhaust sounds better, the new sounds for the zr1 rm sound better than that Corvette video

Amen Brother!

Car sounds = music to your ears

True Story :)

Sound is a important Part in Racing. And GT wants to be a racing game.

Cars wouldn't be Cars without the different Great engine sound.

Two of the people I race with online are deaf.

For me the sound is a large part of the experience of playing GT5. I have a superb surround system that nearly perfectly recreates what GT5 puts out for sound, so to hear cars that sound like lawnmowers or sewing machines really takes away from the realism of the game. I saw two demo's from Project Cars the other day, and I can't account for the graphics because my computer is a bit out of date, but the sounds were dead on. A 250CC Shifter Kart and late 60's F1 cars. If you've ever seen the movie "Grand Prix" from the late 60's, they did a lot of in car camera work with live engine sounds and it seems as if Project Cars sampled directly from that movie, the sounds are that good. And the Shifter Kart perfectly captured the high pitched buzz of a 17,500 rpm two stroke motor.

Most of the stock exhausts in GT5 actually sound good, like the Gallardo and 458. It's the tuned exhausts that sound like crap. Put a racing exhaust on the Aventador and you'll want to mute the audio. If PD could get the tuned exhaust sounds right, the complaints will halve.

Overall, GT5's sounds aren't as bad as most people make them out to be, but they don't have the same wow factor like NFS or sound mods for PC sims.
