Hi fellows, I believe this has been asked before but I couldn't find the thread. Well simple question, witch one is the best wheel for PS3 to play GT5?
I don't mind the price, I stopped smoking a few weeks ago and I'm trying to prove myself I can do better things with the money I spent on cigarettes, so I decided to go and buy a wheel at the end of May, but what wheel should I buy?

thanks a lot guys :)

fanatec gt3 Rs v2 with club sport pedals for about 350 € or the Thrustmaster T500 for about 500€.

For me the Fanatec is the best bang for the bucks...
If you are really really really into racing and have an own cockpit a few ps3 and multi monitor you maybe wanna go for the T500...

If the money is not a problem, then go for the T500RS and you won't regret.

The GT3 cost 180€ and the CBS pedals 200€=380€ (plus shipping costs).

i stand corrected and also just re-checked my bill.
The set is 389,90 € including taxes and shipping is 10 € extra.
but i was close.... :)

It is still a not bad option, but like I've said other times I consider that combo a "little" scam considering that the Clubsport edition before it was 320€/$ and included wheel, shifter and Clubspot pedals...

I've got a G27 and, for me, aside from the lack of official support (something the Fanatec wheel has to deal with too), it's a graet wheel that does its job more than very well :)

ok so, the T500RS is the "professional one" being the G27 a also good wheel. In what kind of stuff does the official support interfere?
Thanks again ;)

Just buy a dfgt only cost me £80 new , has a shifter and paddles just doesn't have a clutch

I taught about that but I think if I'm going to invest some money it must be something that is really good and as all the stuff I need, and the clutch is in fact a part of the auto simulation.

the overall quality with the G27 is just fine.
Its just that the Fanatec and Thrustmaster ones are topping it alot (hand stitched leather, metal pedals, adjustable pressure for the pedals, pedal alignment (GT/F1) active ABS etc.)

Im not too sure, but also the T500 has a force feedback with more power (alas the GT3 has enough power) but not the rumble/shockers within the wheel? I realy like those

The G27 is just a thin leather wheel with plastic pedals :)

Thanks mate I'll see about the Thrustmaster and the Fanatec then ;)

Do you think that the g27 is comparable in terms of quality with the gt3 with g25/g27 pedals?

The G27 has metal pedals not plastic (with hydraulic pressure) and for the money it is a fantastic bit of kit. It really is worth every penny in my opinion. I am sure the T500 is better but it is nearly twice the price and has no shifter.
You will not be dissapointed with a G27 mate

I agree ^

I also want to point out: a wheel is only as good as the stand you are using.

I used a DFGT locked to an end table during GT4 (really lame). I've now graduated to a G27 mounted to a deluxe stand from wheelstandpro. It has made a world of difference (for a budget wheel, even the DFGT felt nice on the proper stand). I can't imagine trying to lock the G27 to a coffee table.

So, what I am getting at is: I personally would never own a Thrustmaster, unless I was planning to mount it in a rig. It is an expensive pro/sim wheel for an expensive set up. Just something to consider before you drop $500 on a wheel. But, to all his own. I guess a T500 mounted to a TV dinner stand could be…uh, kind of fun?

There are many threads on DIY cockpits. I myself am planning to build one on a small budget, 200 or less is the goal. And yes I ordered a T500rs.

This is exactly what I was going to say....I would get whatever setup that would allow me to afford a good mounting option as that will have the greatest impact on your driving...the pedals being next. The wheel is the least important in the equation in my opinion, so long as it has force feedback you'll be fine.

I currently use a G27. Been very pleased.

However there is no hydraulics on this kit. Pedals a spring only for resistance. With a brake mod and inverted they are really decent.

eng:

I've tried the T500RS in Portugal (1 day before to be in stores) and really liked it.
I do not know about the Fanatec or G27, but the T500 is a very good steering wheel.

I think that is in development the gearbox and handbrake too. ;)

I only used a DFP (like DFGT) and a T500RS.

If money is no issue, then T500RS is just pure awesomeness

I wrote a long post about this before in the steering wheel section here. But again, the DFP/DFGT suffers a wobble issue. It wont stay straight if you let go a wheel. Due to this issue, it has a rough learning curve for horrible newbs like myself.

Never had this issue with my T500RS. I was quickly getting 1st place in races I always got with a pad. Not true for the DFP (but keep in mind DFP/DFGT is like 1/6 cost of a T500rs so I';m not dissing the wheel its good for the money)

T500RS has strong FFB. Its so bloody strong im terrified it would seriously injure my kids if they got too close. The 16+ sticker will convince one this isn't a toy really- its some sort of advanced wheel simulator

It's bloody awesome. I've been using it daily since I've gotten it.

I still have a Fanatec GT2/Clubsport on order. But honestly this t500rs is so awesome I have to wonder would i want to play xbox 360 racing games w/o it.

My advice is to never try this wheel unless you are really 100% committed to it. Cause once you use it you will become spoiled by the extreme luxury it affords. And to think right now this superb wheel is in stock in most places.... I don't see how this will last. When I got this wheel at Fry's seemed like everyone knew what it was. I have the feeling it will become rare like the Logitech high end wheels (G27)

The G27 is the go my friend. Little lacking while playing GT5 but it will serve you well with other driving games such as F12010, Ferrari Challenge, Shift ect.

Good mid range product, good quality and the pedals are very good. The shifter is as good as you could expect for the price and it actually works very well and gives an added feeling of reality. As others have noted, the mounting makes a big difference in it's ability to convey the feel of the road within any game. Myself, I have it mounted on a home made rig with a good racing seat. You will not be disapointed if you choose the G27.

Thanks a lot guys. Yesterday I saw the G25 here in portugal for 149€. I was tempted until I realized it does not have clutch. So I guess it will be between T500RS and the G27. Thanks a lot :D

Obviously the thrustmaster is the best wheel for this game whilst also being the most expensive. I use a g25 and I'm very happy with it I have to say. The DFGT is a good wheel for its money, but the pedals aren't great, you might want to consider modding them if you want that as an option. Inside Sim Racing suggest a fanatech with clubsport pedals, while I personally have no experience of such a wheel, it sounds like a fair recommendation.

Using a G25 and being happy.

But what do you OP mean with "best"? And where? Commercial or professional range?

The usual suspects have been already mentioned, but according to Prince if "money don't matter tonight", look here:

-) Frex
-) Ecci
-) VPP

There you may find the "best" ;)

Hi mate. That's a greatquestion. I'm not a competitive racer, I like to race but i mostly like to enjoy the cars I know I will never get to drive in real life. So to me the best is the one that puts me closer to the feeling of driving a enzo or the 599, well the feeling of driving those kind of super cars. The most powerful car I drove in real life was an Rx8 so, I didn't get even close :P
Thanks

i would not spend the money for the T500 then^^
Maybe you should check some youtube videos about the other wheels available. There are always some good reviews around which can influence your decision.

Why can't a casual player enjoy the best wheel (assuming T500RS is the best for him)? I have real life friends that have spent thousands on upgrading their real life street race cars and they drive it purely for enjoyment (not for competition or to make money). So surely a casual racer can splurge a little on their hobby? It all boils down what you are willing to pay for your passion.

This is a review I went by along with several others (ISR, T500RS review): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkgxRNQ7F6g&feature=player_embedded

They claim it's comparable to Frex / ECCI FYI (for the guy above that posted those were the best)
