Hey Guys

In the underground carpark below where I live, there are a number of fast cars including a black R34. I bumped into the the owner one evening and had an hour conversation with him about cars/bikes. He says that he has put at least £20,000 in to his engine and that his car has in the region of 600bhp!!

He also own a Yamaha R6, and he claims his car is faster from 100mph onward which is not hard to believe considering his car supposedly has 600bhp.

Anyway, he has promised a passenger ride for me and my friend so I can not wait!!!! In return he would like me to take him on the bike, as he is a new rider and wants somebody to show him what a bike can do. ( Much Obliged)

I will take some videos of our drive and some pictures of the car and post up! (if the owner agrees)

Wohoo!

Yes, pics and video or it didnthappen :)

Slow down, it has not happend yet, just wating for a good time for both. If it does happen then likey the weekend. I will be sure to post up pictures and a vid.

Hey

Managed to get my ride in the Skyline. We met up at Midnight. A friend on his bike joined us while I jumped in the car and followed. I did not get to experience the power of the car as (Baz) the owner was still bedding in a new AP clutch. On every occasion he tried to put some power down the clutch just seemed to slip so he backed off as he did not want to risk damaging the plates so was very conservative with the throttle.

We took a drive to an industrial area in East London, very close to the Excel Arena. There is a huge mile long road with roundabouts at either end. When we arrived there were about 60 or so cars all parked up while some were drag racing. Because the road takes you to the Arena and the Arena only, there is absolutely no other cars on the road, so as a location to Street Race, it is probably as safe as it gets and this is probably why the guys go there, rather than racing around local roads where there is traffic etc.

Anyway, I watched some of the races, there were lots of Subaru's, EVO's, Civics all very loud and modified. My friend was going to run His Kawasaki ZX7R against one of the cars but decided not to in the end. Baz took me in The Skyline, and blasted through a few bends...WOW does the skyline grip through the corners. On some of the corner entries it just seemed (to me) that the car was going way too fast but time after to time it just gripped with no problems or drama. I ride a bike, and I am a competent rider, but I would have had to push really hard to stay close to the Skyline. My friend Ric was following behind on the ZX7R and he is a quick rider. You could see where the Skyline had the advantage over the bike.

Anyway, after my little drive as passenger, we made it back to the group to watch some of the runs but the fun ended pretty quickly. A 400bhp + Impreza decided to burst in the flames. Oil started to drip from the sump and then a huge fireball erupted. The driver brought the car to a halt very quickly but because he was over the other side of the road, with a barrier dividing, it took an age for other drivers to make it around there to put the fire out. It was hectic, once the flames went up, about 15 drivers quickly jumped in there cars (as some had Fire Extinguishers) and blasted to the rescue but the they were too late, the Impreza was a wreck, the fire even made it through to the dash board. Poor Guy!!

I have some pictures on my Phone, will upload when I am home, nothing special and no video as some of the guys were reluctant to allow me to vid any of the drag races for obvious legal reasons.

Anyway, it was all a bit Fast & Furious though I had a fun night and will take another passenger ride in the Skyline maybe this weekend, and definitely for Baz’s next track-day at Castle Coombe.

Pics? Videos?

I live 20 mins from Coombe. In fact I was there yesterday watching some bikes. When's the track day?

I trust there endeth the lesson that, as a location to street race, there's no such thing as "as safe as it gets"?

Ditto, whereabouts do you live?

EDIT: The next trackday at Combe is on the 22nd May (cars)

You weren't allowed to film it? You were in a public place, you had every right to film it if you wanted too.

Please tell me you are telling the truth, we don't need another supercar thread.

(*Edit*)
Street racing is dangerous Simple. Allot of the possible danger resides in the chosen location, the people behind the wheels of the cars taking part etc. The Problem we have is that many individuals own fast cars and bikes. Mostly these individuals drive responsibly most of the time but as we all know, if one has a fast vehicle then that person at some stage will break the speed limits and this is how it is for most. For the Street Racer, well not every one of them can afford a track day nor does this country have a wealth of places you can go fast safely at no cost, so naturally these individuals will meet up and street race regardless of the rules or potential consequences.

The particular group were all reasonably responsible drivers and at one stage we moved to a private road but were moved on by security. On route to and from, all drivers stuck to the limits and behaved them selves. Once at the location which is a public road, all the cars parked up in formation, much like a ''Run what you Brung'' drag event, and took turns to race from a standing start. The location in question is straight, clear and well lit with no side roads for any unwitting traffic to pull out and is totally devoid of any passing traffic. Street racing will always happen, and the fact that these participants’ choose the safest location possible rather than hoon around the streets is the best compromise possible at the moment. The police were actually there in attendance sitting in an unmarked BMW car observing the action but only intervened when the Subaru erupted in flames and this tells me a story, and although what was taking place was VERY illegal, all drivers were being as responsible as it gets considering what they were actually doing...And the Police must have seen and realised this. I am sure that if the Police would have moved the drivers on, then it would be likely that at some point drivers would just hoon down the A12/A13 where the chances of an accident would be far greater judging by the possible speeds that would be achievable as well as the very fast bends and other traffic. So having the drivers at this desolate loaction, was a compromise that the Police seemd to have had little problems with rather than the possible negatives of continaully moving the drivers on, where at some stage it would mean street racing on busy roads among the traffic.

As for the Subaru erupting, well this is unfortunate and could happen whether street racing or not. From what I hear, the car was put together/tuned badly by somebody who did not know what he was doing, as well as the driver complaining that the car was not right, but he decided to continue which was a dumb move on his part, because now he has no car, not to mention the possible chances of a serious accident resulting from the oil slick his car left behind, but thankfully he brought the car to a stop safely.

Bottom line is, street racing will always happen, though if the participants’ endeavour to conduct these activities as safely as possible, choosing a sensible location with good lighting, no traffic then credit to them. To be honest, what I saw that night was no different to an organised drag event excluding the fact that the location was (an empty) public road.

Please tell me you are telling the truth, we don't need another supercar thread.

Here we go...

Not sure, the idea of the trackday was just mentioned but I will ask again.

I know it is silly! Though likely next I will be asked if the paper is real and so on then perhaps to prove that it is my hand writing etc!!

Seriously though, you've now had a fair bit of time to upload photos... get on it! Regardless, the only issue with all this that hasn't been mentioned already is this bit:

He also own a Yamaha R6...

...In return he would like me to take him on the bike, as he is a new rider and wants somebody to show him what a bike can do....

So he's a new rider, and the first thing he chooses to get is a Yamaha R6, which has - conservatively estimating knowing that the '09 model has 131bhp - well over 100bhp and weighs around 160kg? If he's new enough that he needs someone else other than a professional rider to show him "what a bike can do" then he shouldn't be riding an R6.

I guess that's what happens when you have allot of money, you can buy an R6 as a first bike, perhaps unlike most people that start with say a 125 and work there way up Like I did.

Since he has had the bike he has only done about 200 miles. I guess he is a Sunny Sunday rider!

As for pictures, well I am still at work, going to leave at probably about 2am.

Sorry guys, thought I had more picture but here you go. PS Taken on my new C905

In the Under ground carpark, Baz and Ricardo talking

Me in the car on the way to the meet.

Some of the cars lined up

A 911 Turbo

Baz's Skyline again

Rics Kwak and the Skyline, and also an idea of the location and how straight the road is.

And some more cars

No.

It's like lauding burglars for robbing a house while the occupants are on holiday. They don't deserve any credit at all.

For the Street Racer, well not every one of them can afford a track day

I'm just looking at the pictures here. You have a 600hp Skyline, an Impreza (presumably the 400hp one that immolated itself), an 03-plate 996 911, an Evo 5 and what looks like a Sierra RS Cosworth.

And they can't afford a track day?

What else can't they afford? Insurance? Oh, but I guess it's okay if they choose to drive sensibly?

Street-racing is stupid, intensely illegal (4 offences wrapped up in one package - not including the fact you're all clearly parked on a clearway - MS50 Motor Racing On The Highway; MS52 Aiding, Abetting, Counselling Or Procuring MS50; MS54 Causing Or Permitting MS50; MS56 Inciting MS50), arrogant and irresponsible. That's all before we get to dangerous.

The location in question is straight, clear and well lit with no side roads for any unwitting traffic to pull out and is totally devoid of any passing traffic.

Funnily, that's what this lot thought (caution - language and illiteracy; If you believe in osmosis of intelligence, do not click).

See if you can guess what happened? And I'll help you out - none of the cars involved were not participants in this stupidity (on a straight, well-lit road with no junctions and no other traffic). Several of the injured parties were, as you, mere spectators.

Just in case you think there's a difference between a bunch of kids in hatchbacks knobbing around and a bunch of older kids in very powerful cars knobbing about in exactly the same manner, here's another photo from the same "event":

It's a pity the person driving that Fiesta was a doing so like a berk because the actual car looks quite nice. Well, I'm sure it used to anyway.

I dont know why some people bother with consistantly moaning about certain illegal acts not even the law can get their grips on, so why would it bother anyone if you choose to moan about it in a mad rant on an internet forum?

No one is perfect, no one sticks to the rules 100% of the time, some things are worse than others.

Street racing at a quiet location with no members of the public being involved - and whether I myself choose to be involved or parked or anyone else was parked next to a race i would be more than happy to accept the consequenses should anything go wrong. ("If you fly with the crows, you get shot with the crows",).

Street racing down a motorway / dual carraigeway / public a or b road is far more dangerous.

So why cant people accept the FACT that there IS safer street racing locations so why moan about it?

Yes i agree its stupid / selfish / dangerous / illegal / causes deaths / makes other peoples insurance premiums higher. But there are ways to be sensible(ish) about it.

I gave up on hard parking / street racing / all of that sorta stuff a long while ago. It gets old and costs too much money, infact my pride and joy is for sale at this very moment. But nothing thats said on an internet forum is gonna stop it happening.

Oh and having a dig at what people can and cant afford is pathetic, some people love cars that much that they run cars they cannot afford, so if you see someone with a 600bhp skyline it doesnt mean they can or cant afford anything else !!!

Don't tar everyone with the same brush.

Who was moaning and ranting?

It's a statement of fact that street racing is, in the UK, illegal. Look, you agree:

Yes i agree its stupid / selfish / dangerous / illegal / causes deaths / makes other peoples insurance premiums higher.

No one is perfect, no one sticks to the rules 100% of the time, some things are worse than others.

When you're on public roads, members of the public are always involved.

Street racing down a motorway / dual carraigeway / public a or b road is far more dangerous.

Where else would one street race? You've covered every type of public road in the UK except C and Unclassified.

So why cant people accept the FACT that there IS safer street racing locations so why moan about it?

Safer, yes. But there's no such thing as a safe place to streetrace.

And again with the "moan"?

But there are ways to be sensible(ish) about it.

Yes. Like going to a dragstrip, where almost everything that can be controlled IS controlled, and where those things that can't be controlled are ameliorated by specific emergency services on permanent standby.

Oh and having a dig at what people can and cant afford is pathetic, some people love cars that much that they run cars they cannot afford, so if you see someone with a 600bhp skyline it doesnt mean they can or cant afford anything else !!!

If you can afford to buy a Skyline and tune it to 600hp, you CAN afford to take it to a drag strip. Using that as an excuse to race it on public roads is almost as retarded as racing on public roads.

Don't tar everyone with the same brush.

Whu?

You agree with everything I said. So why are you complaining that I said it?

Yes i agree its stupid / selfish / dangerous / illegal / causes deaths / makes other peoples insurance premiums higher.

Who was moaning and ranting?

It's a statement of fact that street racing is, in the UK, illegal. Look, you agree:

So are you a police officer? are you in any way acting to prevent it? No you are choosing to have a go at someone - telling us a story !

Relevance?

The fact that there are far worse / more dangerous / selfish things to be doing with your time.

When you're on public roads, members of the public are always involved.

No they are not - not far from where i stay there is a massive industrial estate which has been unfinished for years, lots of roads which no members of the public will be anywhere near unless they are on crack. Or unless you are referring to some of the street racers tag alongs - as i have previously mentioned though - if you are participating you are also 'by law' considered part of the problem even as a passenger.

Where else would one street race? You've covered every type of public road in the UK except C and Unclassified.

See above

Safer, yes. But there's no such thing as a safe place to streetrace.

And again with the "moan"?

You are naggiing about it and its dangers when everyone already knows its illegal and dangerous in some circumstaces and again see above.

Yes. Like going to a dragstrip, where almost everything that can be controlled IS controlled, and where those things that can't be controlled are ameliorated by specific emergency services on permanent standby.

But if you choose to streetrace you should be aware of the fact emergency services wont be a stonethrow away.

Also most people who use drag strips are not insured to do so - again an illegal act. Which i dont hear you mention

If you can afford to buy a Skyline and tune it to 600hp, you CAN afford to take it to a drag strip. Using that as an excuse to race it on public roads is almost as retarded as racing on public roads.

Again - with the assumptions, you are now telling us what people can and cant afford.

Let me explain, my local dragstrip is 90 miles from my house - 180 mile round trip almost a full tank of fuel just to get there and back, then £25 to race all day - more fuel required + i use premium fuel as advised with the engine i'm running. Plus you would need food and anything else needed on a day trip.

So around £150 would be needed and sadly some people dont have £150 to blow on a day trip when they could maybe have a 9-5 job which they have to srape by paying for a house + car + maybe kids.

Just because someone chooses to dump all their spare cash into their pride and joy doesnt mean to say they have spare cash to throw away at a drag strip.

You are tagging all street racers as being idiots, when they are not all immature and try to cause trouble.

You agree with everything I said. So why are you complaining that I said it?

I agreed that 'Street Racing' as a whole is classed as highly illegal and dangerous, but not every street racing fits in the category that you put it in!

Some of it is organised in the safest manner, not just meeting someone at a set of traffic lights and away you go while members of the public are innocently driving not an arms legnth away.

No they are not - not far from where i stay there is a massive industrial estate which has been unfinished for years, lots of roads which no members of the public will be anywhere near unless they are on crack.

Even crackheads need protection from street racers.

Again, even though i laughed at this! All people classed as Street Racers tarred with the same brush!

So are you a police officer? are you in any way acting to prevent it? No you are choosing to have a go at someone - telling us a story !

My occupation bears no relevance to the illegality of streetracing.

The fact that there are far worse / more dangerous / selfish things to be doing with your time.

What, so nothing short of murder is wrong?

What a ridiculous position. It IS illegal, it has specific offences covering it and the associated punishments apply.

No they are not - not far from where i stay there is a massive industrial estate which has been unfinished for years, lots of roads which no members of the public will be anywhere near unless they are on crack.

Some people take crack. So that's an instant possibility to which you've admitted. But that's not what I was referring to.

Or unless you are referring to some of the street racers tag alongs - as i have previously mentioned though - if you are participating you are also 'by law' considered part of the problem even as a passenger.

No, I wasn't referring to that either - though again, you're right. Several of the people injured in the crash I showed above were bystanders there to watch their mates behave like idiots.

Nevertheless, racing on the public road always involves the public.

See above

I checked all the industrial estates I could think of on Multimap. Funnily all of them are classified roads. So, given your statement of...

barryl85
Street racing down a motorway / dual carraigeway / public a or b road is far more dangerous.

...covers the types of road you're advocating streetracing on, you are contradicting yourself. Again.

You are naggiing about it and its dangers when everyone already knows its illegal and dangerous in some circumstaces and again see above.

Nagging?

Am I sitting in your front room saying "Now, young Barryl85. Don't you go hanging out with those streetracers this evening? You hear me?"

But if you choose to streetrace you should be aware of the fact emergency services wont be a stonethrow away.

Also most people who use drag strips are not insured to do so - again an illegal act. Which i dont hear you mention

It's not illegal to use a drag strip if your insurance doesn't cover use on drag strips!

Just because someone chooses to dump all their spare cash into their pride and joy doesnt mean to say they have spare cash to throw away at a drag strip.

I'm not assuming anything at all. I'm stating that breaking the law isn't suddenly okay if you say can't afford to stay within the law.

Would you say that someone *gets violin out* who works 9-5 and has to scrape by, paying for a house and car and maybe some kids *puts violin away* would be just fine not paying for any car insurance because they choose to dump all their disposable buying and tuning a car?

Of course you wouldn't. So why advocate similar lawbreaking behaviour (note: street-racing invalidates insurance) for exactly the same tired old excuse?

What you can and cannot afford to do has no bearing on whether what you opt to do is illegal or not.

You are tagging all street racers as being idiots, when they are not all immature and try to cause trouble.

I don't recall tagging anyone as anything. I'm pretty sure I said the activity was stupid, rather than the people who engage in it.

I agreed that 'Street Racing' as a whole is classed as highly illegal and dangerous, but not every street racing fits in the category that you put it in!

Yes it does. Watch:

Category: Illegal.

Some of it is organised in the safest manner, not just meeting someone at a set of traffic lights and away you go while members of the public are innocently driving not an arms legnth away.

And yet it's still just a bunch of people meeting up illegally to engage in a selfish, illegal act. Which you agree with. And still just have to post to complain that I've said, but agree with.

Again, even though i laughed at this! All people classed as Street Racers tarred with the same brush!

I'm not tarring anyone, it's just that when people street race they're performing an illegal act. In this thread it mentions that the guy with the Skyline chucked £20,000 into his engine knowing that it's illegal to race in a street.

Maybe he should have spent £2500 less and used that for some real drag racing at a real strip. I believe the majority of street racing takes place so that people can show off, boast and generally look good in front of others. It's not about the racing or performance with street racers, it's about showing off which is why most of them never attend a real drag strip.

Woop, pictures 👍

I wish I was cool enough to cruise along with my left hand on the right-hand side of the steering wheel.

What is your problem, like your grandmother has never driven one handed.

No.

It's like lauding burglars for robbing a house while the occupants are on holiday. They don't deserve any credit at all.

Not quite the same thing, more like giving methadone to addicts rather than letting them steal and rob to get there fix.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I could show you many pictures of wrecks caused my people talking on the phone, doing there make up, eating there lunch all while driving, though most people seem to be happy to take part in such activities whilst in control of 1500kg of vehicle where driving is an after thought

I am a motorcyclist, and the amount of stupidity I come across day in day out, from supposed safe legal and responsible drivers, the same people in fact that would frown upon street races but most of the time are a far greater danger to the average pedestrian/road user.

Famine, You are right in what you are saying, and it applies to the vast majority of street racing instances that we see and come across and that is a shame, because the vast majority of participants are complete idiots and have no regards for anyone but themselves...Though this group I was viewing were nothing like that and were as responible as it gets judging by the circumstances.

What we seem to forget are the many motorsports that are carried out some of which are taken place on public roads, like the Ilse of Mann TT, bikes averging 130mph per lap, blasting past houses where granny coud be having breakfast, not to mention that the IOM govenment see fit not to have speed limits on the Island, in areas that are not built up and only enforced in occupied areas. Also we can talk about the many legal rally events and stages where spectators are often killed or injured. I believe that if rally events/stages took place as commonly as street racing events the death count would likely be higher for the rally events but still these events are allowed even after a rally spec Impreza flips into a crowd of spectators killing a number of them but thihs is ok of course becuase it is legal?. As I said, what I witnessed that night was no different to an organised drag event, where all the potential hazzards are the same, only difference was that the venue was an Empty public road at 2am.

And these are the utter cretins living above their means who've done their own little bit for the state the world economy is in now. There's one thing having a passion for cars - we all do on this forum - but it's quite another being stupid enough to indulge in that passion well beyond your financial means. So it's worthless as a defence for saying that the people in PAPPACLART's photos "might not be able to afford anything else". I strongly suspect that if they're able to run Skylines and 911s then they can afford to go on trackdays.

What is your problem, like your grandmother has never driven one handed.

I'm happy to admit I drive one-handed sometimes. I usually don't hold the wheel on the opposite side to the hand with which I'm holding it though. It makes you look like a complete tool, for a start, and somehow I doubt he's got too much control of what's clearly a very powerful car like that either.

My grandmother is probably a better driver too.

And she doesn't even have a licence.

EDIT:

I am a motorcyclist, and the amount of stupidity I come across day in day out, from supposed safe legal and responsible drivers

Is that like, say, racing a Veyron?

EDIT 2:

Oh, and...

EDIT 3:

What we seem to forget are the many motorsports that are carried out some of which are taken place on public roads, like the Ilse of Mann TT, bikes averging 130mph per lap, blasting past houses where granny coud be having breakfast, not to mention that the IOM govenment see fit not to have speed limits on the Island, in areas that are not built up and only enforced in occupied areas. Also we can talk about the many legal rally events and stages where spectators are often killed or injured. I believe that if rally events/stages took place as commonly as street racing events the death count would likely be higher for the rally events but still these events are allowed even after a rally spec Impreza flips into a crowd of spectators killing a number of them but thihs is ok of course becuase it is legal?

We aren't forgetting any of that, because none of it is relevant.

a) I suspect granny having tea won't be in as much risk as you seem to think as the TT is reasonably well publicised and I suspect that she's unlikely to step out of the front door and get hit by a racer doing 180 down Glen Helen.
b) You can bet that the IOM would re-introduce speed limits if complete idiots started street racing and taking out members of the public. The locals are just sensible enough not to remove their own rights by being recklessly irresponsible.
c) Spectators know the risks when they go to rallies. Likewise any motorsport event, where there is always a sodding enormous sign at the entrance saying MOTORSPORT IS DANGEROUS. Members of the public might not be so aware as a street-racing knob careers into them.

Not quite the same thing, more like giving methadone to addicts rather than letting them steal and rob to get there fix.

Oddly, being addicted to heroin isn't illegal...

All of these arguments boil down to "Sometimes, people are careless and crash. This means it's okay to gather to deliberately break the law."

Guess what? It's not.

No. As responsible as it gets is doing it in the appropriate place, not doing it on the public road.

*sigh*

The Isle of Man TT is a time trial event - no head-to-head racing occurs. Something it shares with the rally stages of which you speak is... it is an officially organised, sanctioned event and this means that the roads are closed, by police, and there are regulations on the minimum distance spectators must be from the competitors, the minimum number of trained marshalls and the minimum number of attending fire, medical and rescue services at the scene.

Let's compare this to your "responsible" street race.

As I said, what I witnessed that night was no different to an organised drag event

Not been to many of them then, I take it? I have and unless you have a pit pass the marshalls - which you didn't have any of - won't let you within 50 feet of the track. Which is, of course, separated in two by a four foot high concrete median at the start and by a four foot high concrete barrier from the crowd at either side.

Not to mention the rapid response ambulance and fire crews on hand at all times.

where all the potential hazzards are the same, only difference was that the venue was an Empty public road at 2am.

Except for the hazards of untrained, unregistered drivers, spectators too close to the "track", no marshalling, no fire units on hand (perhaps the guy with the Impreza might still have his), no ambulance on hand and... well, you saw the pictures I posted above from people who thought they were doing the same.

It's illegal for a reason.

I don't get the point of street racing, first what happens if the race is really close. At a track you have timing so you know who won and by how much exactly. I also don't get think saying that it costs to much to go to a track is a good argument as I'm sure a ticket is way more expensive than the 189euros you said it would cost for a whole weekend. Not to mention the fact you could wind up in three different places while you'r car is doing the same thing.
