will GT Online kill GT?

Someone mentioned being offline for months while they build their garage.... All the more reason PD should allow a full carry-over of cars and money, from Prologue to the full game. It would be pretty lame for the first few weeks, if most people just had their C class cars to use.

I have full faith that the single player mode will be huge, and I also believe that it can co-exist just fine along side a robust online system.

The AI in Prologue is leaps and bounds better than GT4. Factor in all of the Prize cars and Special cars that will probably only be unlocked by progressing through single player, and it will be played just as much as GT4 was. That said, there are still those who enjoy the offline events of Prologue, more than they do the online events, thanks to horrible drivers.

I don't see online as much of a drag on offline. I just see online keeping people's interest far longer than offline ever did. The reason I stopped playing GT4 was the difficulty in finding a close competitive race, without having to drive an under powered car. I still throw it in to be able to drive the 'Ring, La Sarthe, Laguna Seca, Infineon, Monaco and Citi d' Aria, as well as the kinds of cars we don't yet have in Prologue, like the GT1/LMP/GTP/Croup C cars.

Prologue fills in some of the things GT4 was missing. GT4 provides a lot the Prologue doesn't have yet, and should have had in the first place. GT5 will be the perfect combination of the two.

Well, it would...so long as there wasn't huge amounts of lag. Unfortunately, GT5P happens to have plenty of it.

To answer the thread title - no Online won't kill GT.

The unfortunate circumstance is that the online idiots outnumber the clean drivers, and they will all buy the game anyway, regardless of how good the online is.

But, thats not the point of this topic is it? Its just yet another rant about online drivers.
May I point out that you don't have to use the online mode? It doesn't exactly "ruin" the offline experience does it? Online isn't the be all and end all of gaming, despite what popular opinion states.

And like people have said, don't judge the Prologue online system as representative of the finished, full, product of GT5. We will have private rooms to get rid of the idiots.

Wrong.
This is something I hope I don't see when it comes to the full GT5, elitism is possibly worse than being a punter.

Many people that signed up to GTP in the recent months were non-GTP'ers before racing us lot, if we start assuming all non-GTP drivers are up to no good then we will be setting a bad example ourselves. The GTP tag is a symbol of clean racing, not an elitist group of drivers. We should treat all drivers with the proper respect.

i second it,well said

Wrong,

There are good races to be had outside of GTP events. The comment you have made, does nothing to help people's views of the GTP tag outside of this site. We are not an elite group of racers, we are a group of racers that enjoy racing online and enjoy doing it in a clean and friendly manner.

We should be showing respect to all on track not just the GTP tag.

ok point taken,

But it is hard to find good racing with random people.

And the fact that this thread was started is a concern because someone new to GT that enters online events may be put off by the bad racing.

I very rarely have any lag at all and I am on a relatively slow 4 mbit line.

I also see almost no lag at all... maybe those guys who have problems with lag, should do this connection speedtest, to being sure your DSL-dealer is not lying to you about your connections speed.

http://www.speedtest.net/

I have 5mb DSL, and my result was 4920/980...

Edit: To New Zealand, Auckland, I had only 3100/110 connection, so that may explain also why I see lag if Tizzla is hosting... when I chosed NZ/Christchurch, I had 2170/750, so Tizzla propably should take connection to us by using that server.

Edit2: I just found great server to NZ... Wellington: 4800/920!

And guess what - im from Wellington!!

Remember this, everyone who is not from GTP, sucks. Therfore, they can only win by being a b***h on the track.
👎

Wwwwwwwwwhat:irked: Are you serious !!!!

Hmmm... then that dont explain it. I was ready to bet that youre using Auckland servers, cause there was so low upload speed to here. :ouch:

Is it Citylink named server youre using? Thats the great one which I did found.

Edit: Tizzla... try to take contact to Finlands server, and tell what speeds you get. (if you know where Finland is  )

If PD don't sort out GT5 (full game) online when it comes out then it doesn't matter how well the graphics and handling are, how many tracks or cars there are, people will move on after a while. I just don't play GT5P online as much as I use to, even with arranged GTP events.

At the very least, online has to have private rooms/lobbies AND support voice chat while racing, that is something I really miss in GT5P and the main reason I keep going to other games like FC, otherwise its moving backwards compared to the competition.

I have full confidence this will happen, on release or at the very least with a patch or DLC later. They have supported Prologue far more than we expected, so the full game should have constant backup.

But its the time giving to others race games that dominate the online at the moment that frustrates me. I doubt it GT5 will come out at the end of 2009, more like 2010knowing the history of its release dates, thats still ages away, but if it does come out it has to compete with online racers that, may have more arcade handling and poorer graphics, but will have proper involved and detailed online racing, and those are evolving all the time.

Games due out this year include: Supercar Challenge (from makers of Ferrari Challenge), CM Dirt 2, Grid 2, NFS Shift (moving away from street racer at last, more track like grid, and made by PC's GTR producers this time), Fuel, and a new F1 game (By Codemasters this time), I am even looking forward to Outrun PSN online. And its early times, I am sure many many others are in the making and will come out.

GT has had its market to itself on the PS console over the years, especially as a sim, but get the online wrong, and it cetainly won't make the same impact, others will get better.

For me, online has improved GT immensely, however flawed it may be. Yes, there are some irratic drivers (with and without bad intentions), but if it wasn't for online I wouldn't have been playing Prologue every week since it was launched.

I have only been racing in the expert online events. My experience is that the standard of driving and good racing manors is the best it has ever been, and that applies to tagged and non-tagged drivers.

No offence to my fellow GTP'ers, but I don't want to just race privately with only GTP tagged drivers. Diversity is important to me. I hope that PD continues to refine the penalties, address known shortcuts and improve the public online experience as much as the private one.

been away from gt onlline for a while came back and althiugh some part have improved the cutting the track is ridiclous

The fact that Prologue recently has been neglected to some degree (as in updates) could perhaps suggest that GT5 is closer than we imagine. It is not immensley hard to have a better online facilty already in place, and PD could have given it to us at the release of GT5P, and cetainly through other updates, especially after all the complaining.

Anyway, I had my first go in some of the more pro events. I had trouble finding people to race with, but found a race, 650pp at Daytona, with the infield config. I was using the Audi R8, and there was a BMW concept, 2 Hotted Renault's and I think a GTR07 driven by GTP divine, or something. My car just was not competitive, and was blown away down the straights, so I had no chance, I kept racing hard, and had a little fun with the BMW guy, he was fast but he crashed a few times, so it was mainly him and I. All the guys were good and fair, and when I was lapped by the front runners, unlike some, I did not ram them, just moved aside.

Later on, I picked an Impreza, and had a race againts a guy in an f430, just him and I. Again, my lack of tuning know how, had me in a car that went around corners well, R3's, but lacked on the straights. I reliase now R3s add points, and R3's are not really needed at a track like Daytona, with more straighs then bends. Anyway, I was driving hard, and matching the F430 in the corners, but his extra power made it easier for him. As I was pushing soo hard, I ended up crashing. As it was just him and I, as opposed to just dissapearing, he waited up for me, let me go ahead, and then chased, like before, I was pushing really hard until I crashed, which would happened a few times. Near the end of the race, he just passed me and cleared off!

After that was done, I went back, put R1's on, which freed up some points, I increased the Impreza's power from 380 something BHP to over 400bhp, added some lenth to my gearing to take advantage of my new power, enter the race again hoping that I would find my new found Ferrari driving buddy, but he was gone. I am sure if he was there, with my cars new found ability, I would have given him a good race.

I have had some goo races before, still there are too many noobs and cheaters.

Just before the pro event, I entered an event, not sure which one, but it was at Eiger. I started 9th, overtook and ended up 2nd. The guy who came 1st was a run away winner. The only thing stopping me from not challenging him, was the faxt that I had to fight my way through a bunch nutters thinking that they were competing in a Destruction Derby. I manged to get through, though not having to penalties awarded for others ramming me!

I guess what my point is, is that we have to take the good with the bad untill GT5 is out, with private rooms. Though it is not all bad as fun can still be had online.
