Hi all

My most basic of questions.

Will GT5 run on any model PS3 ?

I have played GT since no.1 but budget means these PS3s are a bit much for me. GT is such good value that i really want to get into it but looks like i'll have to get a 2nd hand console. I don't want to blow my money on an old model and find the firmware or something won't work. Also i think i read the early ones didn't have 'Dualshock' handsets and that GT5 isn't so good with the basic 'Sixaxis' handsets.

I did a search but didn't find this.

I'm suprised nobody has answered you yet as somebody here must have an 'ancient' ps3 console around here. This is more of a bump than anything for you but I will say there are a ton of updates for this game so be prepared when PSN comes back online.

I have a launch 40GB and had no probems. Also, I have 2 DS3 controllers so I am assuming that they will work with any console.
I'm not sure what retailers there are in Australia, but here in the UK you can buy pre-owned consoles in shops, which usually have a 1-2 year warranty, that are quite well priced. Might be worth looking into.
Also, Amazon are selling a 160GB slim brand new for around 180GBP, which is about as good as it gets here.

My advice though, if you are buying a PS3 purely fot GT5, is to stick to GT4.

There is simply more to do!👍

It sure does!! It's meant for any ps3 anyway. I had the first 60gb and it's running well.
And ya, get a DS3. At least get the vibration.

Enjoy!!

Thanks,

generally good news there.

I'm in the country so there's nowhere this side of 200km that i would expect to find PS3 2nd hand in a shop.

There's more to do in GT4 ?
I played that well into the ground. Drove a ditch into the screen , hahaha
Sold the whole PS2 , memory X2 , handsets X2 and games.

EVERY ps3, no matter if being a model from the very first charge or the last one produced, will run GT5. You'll only have to make the FW- and game-updates, that's all. It would be a deadly mistake for a console manufacturing company to change hardware specs of a console model within it's very generation.

If you're a GT fan then I would definatly buy GT5, I was a total GT noob before GT5 and had no interest at all in driving games.

I was shopping one day and splashed out on 3 random games, God of war 3, Red dead redemption undead nightmare and GT5.

I played GT5 first to see what all the fuss was about and I've been playing it ever since. The other two games still remain unplayed!

How old are you e.man? Are you ......er a grown man or are you relying on pocket money? (kid).

I am a grown old man relying on disability pension.
Most money goes on medical.
I need something fun to soak up some time that doesn't include records or stereo gear on eBay.

You'll be fine... I'm running GT5 on a launch day 60gb PS3 still, with no problems. I also used a SIXAXIS for the first few months before investing in a wheel. I never bought a DS3, but after using one at a friends house, it makes car control much easier than with the SIXAXIS. You can feel the road more. It's not impossible with a SIXAXIS though, I managed to gold 90% of the licenses using a controller.

I still enjoy the game, it'l keep you entertained for a while :D

I had an old 80 gig fat boy that broke.I bought a new slim which is now going for a crap.So off to You Tube I went fixed the old fat boy and presto no problem.I put in a 250 gb hd and it works like a charm.Luckily my slim is not out of warranty so its off for repair.I think the fat boys are a better machine and the 80 gb is backwards compatible.

I have Fatboy 40GB PS3, had it for 2 years. Leave it on for days at a time sometimes. GT5 works perfect lol, aswell as every other game.
PS3 games aren't " version dependent " - The only difference is Hard Drive Space.

I imported my PS3 from Japan the day it was realsaed over there. (i was living in UK at the time)
GT5 works fine, and even though it came with 2 sixaxis controllers I now have 4 dual shock ones :)

I'm still using the original sixaxis controllers, although my ps3 has been swapped twice under warranty. They say they replace it with exactly the same model anyhow.

Is the DS3 20 quids worth of improvement on a sixaxis?

I would feel so. To the bare minimum, I can feel if my car is being knocked on. And also feel the undulating surface of tracks and terrain.

I'd avoid the 60gb models (they seem to have the most problems) just to be on the safe side. Dualshock controls are a must (though sixaxis will work), but you can buy them seperate. The game should update the console to the right firmware to play it but with PSN down at the moment the newest firmware may not be available (the game will work though).

My launch 60GB (Well, 500GB, now) works just fine. I keep it on a shelf above my TV in horizontal orientation... They only time I hear the fans kick up to high speed is if the ambient temperature in the room exceeds 74°F.

I've completed several 24 hour races with it... and have ran the rubberband grind from 100,000 credits to 20,000,000 on Indy several times now. (My Red Bull x2010 has over 90,000km clocked.)

I had an SSD in it... Loaded GT5 incredibly fast! I had to remove it because 80GB wasn't enough space anymore.

You bet that when a decent sized SSD comes out that doesn't destroy my wallet I'll be upgrading again.

I'm confused, can someon explain the difference between a dualshock 3 and a SIXAXIS?

Mine says both on it, I mean I don't use the SIXAXIS funtion if thats what you mean?

:dopey:

You have a dualshock 3. Sixaxis is the function for you to control by moving the controller for some games without pressing any buttons ( not all games though) Ds3 has the vibration mode.

It's a bit obvious that it will work on any PS3.

To you it is.

Not everyone knows the PS3, or console gaming for that matter, inside out.

As such a degree of empathy and politeness when addressing other members would not go amiss.

But it's like saying 'Would a PS3 game work on a PS3'

Yeah ? OK !

In my own defence -

Last time i bought a playstation there was either a fat one or a slim one. What concerned me was all the different models and the firmware. See above someone who owns one had to ask "what is a sixaxis/dualshock? "

I built my own real life 1948 hotrod and i tuned in the triple carbs on it etc etc.

mate !

And you could have just answered a simple yes or don't reply at all. It could be his first time playing a console game but it's not important. He is humble enough to ask a genuine question and doesn't deserve arrogant answers.
