I've spent the majority of my online time on the Intermediate level Daytona Oval racing a BNR34 Nissan Skyline.

First, and not if but when, I have caused wrecks I would like the folks reading this who remember my name to know it was never intentional. Even if someone is trying to wreck me, my response is to avoid them on the track and give them all the room I can when passing.

My experience with host drops and rude racers is a mixed bag. Last night's racing proved to lean more toward these experiences. However, I've had a lot of races with drivers who I could tell were really trying to drive clean lines. And, when people bump each other in the turns it was not on purpose. Those are the events I look forward to.

One way I try to build a decent reputation is by intentionally letting others have the lead when I can. I'll get behind someone and bump draft with them down the backstretch a couple of laps hoping they get the message that I'm not going to scrub doors with them just to hold the lead. Besides, all that matters is who is leading at the finish line.

What is funny is to watch drivers who give up opportunities to work the draft and just drag race around the track. It may be because I'm a NASCAR fan that I feel this way. But, after watching enough stock car races and going to Talladega and Daytona, I have more fun emulating the "let's work together if it will benefit us both" mentality. Of course, all bets are off when we're on turn 4 of the final lap.

I've attempted to block approaching the finish line and find it's tough to do at those speeds. It usually results in a wreck. I know this from my own foolhardy mistakes. Now, I'm finding it's a lot of fun negotiating someone else's attempts to block me at that point in the race.

I think the online aspect of the GT series will improve with future patches and the release of the full game. For now, it'll just be hit or miss and threads like this one will be frequent occurrences on these forums. Oh well, not everyone wants to race like a gentlemen I guess.

IMHO it is still getting better. Last week was so frustrating that I thought my wheel was going through the screen or the window. I am happy to say however, that after a long weekend of playing, no cats have been kicked.

I think the initial thrill may have worn off for the kiddies and they went to a different game.

I am looking forward to more clean racing in the future.

That would be absolutely horrible. Its basically online time trials then! I'd much rather deal with punters than race ghosts.

I guess I completely disagree. You will still know who got off the corner faster and where you are losing time compared to the rest of the field. The cars will still be on the track with you, but the assholes that think this is destruction derby will go away.

To me, it will still be exciting trying to catch a car that is in front of me and seeing it happen real-time.

I like the game to be as realistic as possible, but there is a point in which trying to implement full realism begins to detract from the playability.

I was wondering what would happen if there are really good players who also happen to be really dirty players. They would bump people off and then use their skill to win the race. In this case, no matter how man other good racers there are in that track, that bugger will still win with his dirty tactics.

last night was terrible.

the same guy got behind 3 races in a row and dropped out each time.

then the punters came out, so i went to TT london, i love that course.

what I like to do,is let the "punters" go by you, then stay on their rear bumper(without bumping them, try to stay clean),they will be so busy "mirror racing" you, then eventually they wipe out,you go back by them and the rest is history,if your good enough you can lose them in seconds

Glad to see someone else stepping up and finding a way around the punters. Those types will always be racing, unfortunately. I have used this strategy a few times and it works well. Ideally it teaches the punters that clean and close racing is possible along with giving respect for other racers. Hopefully some of them will take the example and learn how to run clean. 👍

Yeah thats what I do they will screw up. Also keep in mind that in some cases you can use the penilty system to youre advantage. If its a tighter turn like the entry to spoon, the hair pin or casino and you have a punter behind you look at how far back they are if there close get out of there way. If there back aways hold youre line they will try to late brake and slam you, but there to far back so the system see's this as a mistake and ghost them out, they sail off in to the grass/gravel/wall and you drive away.

I had great fun on the expert Daytona oval today in a car that could barely hit 185mph in clean air, but could pull just over 2Gs in the corners.

One race, I was alone against a field with 15 Corvettes. I held a predictable line, did not try to block at all, and the Corvettes would draft me on the straight and then ram into me hard just before the corner (I never let off the gas... they were just that much faster), which gave me a better boost of speed than drafting, and I never had to touch the brake the entire race. And boy I bet that one guy was mad. After punting me into each turn, I watched him spin out or smack the wall in my rearview each time. Then of course the host disconnect came in the last corner of lap 5 as I was about to win the race by a gap of a couple seconds. But I was still laughing.

I say, screw the credits and badly anti-aliased trophy, I know I won that one. :)

ive had some good races of late, 600pp @ Suzuka, I think the challenge of the S2 tyres put off some of the idiots. One thing ive noticed developing is that particular race turning into a 4WD festival..full of EVO's, Scoobies and the R8. Almost lke the Elise fest of old..

'b.o.t' Still some ass wipes out there though for sure.

After spending last month leaving 750pp in favour of 600pp and some much cleaner races I think I'm leaning the other way now with most of the 600 races I've been in lately turning out to be 4WD dodgem races. The 750pp isn't any cleaner but if you can dodge your way to the front (which I'm getting quite good at - with feint passes and loads of pressure) every now and again I'll actually find a driver or two up there and the racing is much more of a buzz at speed, rather than crawling around in 600pp machines being continually rammed by evos and scoobies.

The other good thing about 750pp is that, even with the boost, the idiots can't stay on the track long enough to catch you up if you get in front. It's quite surreal to weave your way through a bunch of donutting GTlm's and overclocked ferraris to find a little oasis of excellence and a punt-free competition for the top 3 or 4 places.

The problem that I have with PP750 is the drivers that can drive fast but also drive dirty. They make the race more fun until you try to pass them; then you're off in the sand watching them roar off into the distance. Also, rubberbanding lets the idiots catch up even if they aren't as skilled, and R3 tires have enough grip to give ANYBODY a shot with the rubberband effect.

I prefer PP600 now because the S2 tire limit makes the grip level much lower, which in turn makes it much harder for the morons to stay on the track. Tweaking the springs, shocks, camber, etc. becomes much more important in PP600; tuning really doesn't matter in PP750 because the grip was so high. If you are willing to put in some time and effort to set up a car well, most likely you'll do well. The punters that don't put forth the effort simply can't keep up. Every once in a while I'll meet a fast but dirty racer, but mostly I find people who simply don't know what they're doing.

Also, most GTP members seem to have abandoned PP750, and I as I am always looking to race them, I have a much better chance of meeting up with them on PP600 races. In the online chatroom, we almost never organize races on PP750 because the races are so bad. It's frustrating for everybody when we all get punted, so we stay away from these races. Don't get me wrong, I have had great races on PP750. I've just had a lot more in PP600.

In my opinion and experience, PP750 races are more for people that like to go fast and do whatever it takes to win because the cars are easier to manage with such high levels of grip, downforce, etc. Tuning cars for PP600 races takes a lot more patience; these are more for drivers who enjoy making the cars perform as well as possible instead of just going fast and winning at all costs.

This ends my lecture/rant/rambling monologue. If anyone wants to race me, I think you'll know which PP I'm in.

I know the types you're talking about and yes, it's annoying as hell to find someone who can handle a car and is still intent on ramming the opposition but I just don't find that to be the norm. Even on sticky tyres you're going to have a hard time keeping 750pp on the track unless your lines are reasonably clean, or you slow down way too much which seems to happen a lot. The rest just spin off every corner with 500ish bhp going through the back wheels r3 tyres aint going to help you once you reach and breach the grip limit and all the boost is going to do for you is make it all happen a lot quicker :sly:

I wish more GTP would give 750 a shot cos with more tags on the track it can only be an improvement and I sometimes miss the speed when I come out of 750pp races and back to 600 to race with you guys. :(
