Will progress transfer to downloaded version?

My PS3 120GB Slim has trouble recognizing the GT-6 disc. Recognizing disc has been hit and miss and I'm afraid one day it will not read it at all. Tilting PS3 or replacing laser not a good option for me. Downloaded version would seem to solve the reading problems but would I lose my current progress in the game?
 
It should work, I have the digital version from a friend's PSN account and the save worked with my disc when I got one. Different regions too, NA and EU respectively.
 
I've switched my game save between disk and downloaded version a few times with no issue so far.
