Will the lack of vibration in PS3 controllers hurt the next GT?

In my opinion sony has made a big mistake with this idea! You wont be able to feel the impact from smashing into other vehilcles(which really sucks if they have added damage in GT5) or the vibration of your engine when you upgrade it, no vibration when you peel out or when you race in the rally circuit. It would be sweet if the controllers had both, the motion sensors and vibration technology ( and that does seem like two much to ask for spending $500-$600). I just feel that GT is such a detailed game as far as how the cars feel and ride that this will really hurt the game! Hopefully they come out with new controllers with vibration soon after the PS3 launch!!

i turn the vibration off everytime i play and i think the new function is way cooler that vibration... who needs it .. it doesnt add anything to realism..

and damage is the best thing they added.. nothing sweeter than bumping into a wall at 200mph and see ur car total loss and finally see a DNF sign somewhere at the top 16...

1 car .... 1.36.009
2car .... +04.689
3car .... +09.765
4car .... +15.789
5car .... +28.548
6car .... +36.487
7car .... +45.000
8car .... +55.748
19car .... +58.094
10car .... +1.14.558
11car .... +1.16.007
12car .... +1.21.569
13car .... +1 lap
14car .... dnf
15car .... dnf
16car .... dnf

flying bumper destroys ur windshield.. how cool is that... pitting for actual damage...

As long as the game supports my DFP feedback, I don't care if the controllers have vibration or not. Though I do like the DS2 vibration in general.

Just by a steering wheel.💡 Much more fun and very realistic.

Yes, a steering wheel is a MUST have for GT, driving race cars with a controller is a crime!

Where did you read that? Did I miss something?:scared:

I really hope that they bring vibration back. Although the motion thing sounds interesting I think that I would probably just prefer vibration. Who knows though I could really like it and never look back.

Do we KNOW ?... Does anyone HAVE a PS3 controller ?... Is there a final review stating a No Vibration ?...

Sony did announce that there wasn't going to be any vibration function in the PS3 pads.

I find thew vibration really useful for things like curbing etc....

Yes it isnt the proper feel but at least i know im on the curbing when it vibrates.

Vibration never did anything for me. If anything, loosing even more money to an idiot company like Immersion is even stupider than loosing a lame feature which the same 10 people complain about. all the time.

Vibration function was fun for about two weeks. Now, it's mostly annoying. I always turn it off.

-> Hmm, now PS3 doesn't have a vibe-function. It's like GT1 (JDM version back in 1997) all over again. With or without vibes, both works for me, but I like the one with vibes because I can curb-check easlily in a corner. (:

I bet PD will create a GT5 controller...with vibration.

I don't mind if there isn't any vibration. When I'm racing, I automatically forget about it anyway. If I collide with cars or objects you usually hear it or see the car move slightly. I'm sure this will be even less of a problem as I, and probably most of you as well, will be playing GT5 on a much bigger TV for the HD experience and full surround sound.

Why? If Sony makes 1 pad with thoes fuctions they might as well make all of them with it, they have to pay for the patent either way. Granted it won't e as much in a smaller supplied range of pads, but the profits will be less too.

It might be one of those things I'll miss when it's gone, but I mostly ignore it for now.

I do like vibration especially for feeling the rumble strips......

Im sure there will be 3rd party controller manufactures who will offer vibration (like logitech) if you really cannot manage without it. The only problem is that vibration may not be even programmed into the game what with all official controllers not vibrating...

We have to wait and see how it all works out. Logitech is licenced, so as long as PD uses their drivers, wheel users may be OK.

Plus, Emersion is not the only company to licence force feedback systems. They just happen to be the one Logitech used and SONY is convicted of ripping off.

Cheers,

MasterGT

My best guess is that the vibration would probably eat up battery life with a wireless controller, thus leading to no vibration to try to conserve battery life. Will it impact GT5's success? Well... it depends. More hardcore gamers will want to feel the road and feeling the gripping of the road and onto curbs. My old PS2 controller (it wasn't a DualShock 2, it was an aftermarket model) vibrated like CRAZY when I played Swiss Alps in GT3. The thing wouldn't vibrate as much when I was driving on the wooden bridge. I do like the vibration while racing. But I'm also old-fashioned, so I can live without little things most of the time. I wouldn't be surprised if GT5 gets a bad review (like the dope who BLASTED GT4 on some other website) with one of the reasons being no vibration. And I'm sure nit-pickers will have a field day as well on this issue.

I think this will only be an issue for hardcore racing fans. Somewhat casual gamers may not be as concerned about this deal. But it all depends on the person. So, I'm 50/50 on this.

Why would a "hardcore" GT player be using the controller instead of the wheel? :)

couldn't you just put in a PS2 controller

PS3 controllers are cordless or USB connected, which means you can't connect a PS1/2 controller to it unless a USB adapter plug comes out which works with the PS3.

As for rumble option in the next GT, it doesn't worry me much as I always use a wheel (DFP for now) but If I were to use the controller I would be dissapointed.

completly agree with you.. vibration in a controller is useless.. but in a steering wheel it's very imoprtant! DFP for example has perfect vibration and road feeling! :D

agree with you about the damage as well! to feel that you really have to take care of the car would be just awesome!!

well, they won't have added damage in GT5 (or GT:HD first of course), and I barely notice the rumble when I'm playing anyway because I'm too busy concentrating, so it doesn't bother me about the lack of vibration.
