Is there any news on this? Has Kaz said anything about it? Because this is the only thing I want. I only really bought the game because I thought I'd be able to race against my mates ghost cars for their best laps. I really thought this game would have this feature, seeing as this is such a basic function that should really be included as a given in any racing game. I haven't played this game for a few months, and I was waiting for the 2.0 update. But now, after a year, I'm starting to think its not ever going to happen, so maybe I should sell the game. I was probably the worlds most excited person in anticipation of this game. I genuinely believed this would be the greatest racing game of all time, as promised. I'm just so disappointed.

Maybe for GT6. Apparently it puts too much strain on the servers.

Lol, no way I'm ever buying 6 then. This "racing game" franchise is the ultimate failure. Pretty much every online game I can think of has an online leaderboard. And of all the genres, racing games are the main one you where you really need one. How many people bought this game? I dont know, but I know its a LOT. So why aren't they spending this money on decent servers like every other game company? It's because everyone has bought the game now. They already have our money, so they don't care any more. They'd rather just give us extra helmets. Thanks Kaz!

So its a failure only because there is no leaderboard? Thats a pretty bad way to rate a game based on one option

I think the only Leaderboards we will be getting is the ones that are in the Online Events. To me this is just a joke. They only stay up for just a little bit and they are a waste of time.Having no true Leaderboards is why i quit GT5 after spec 2.0.

If you want Leaderboards then i suggest going with FM4 which is what i'm playing at the moment.

There is a leaderboard on seasonal event time trial, you just don't race his ghost but at the end of the race it shows his lap time and yours. As close as it would get, I guess. It works for me but thinking about it I would like that feature it sounds good, someone should mention it to Kaz.

We have the seasonals so I don't think that we will get a online leader-board. Do you remember how it was with prologue? You could set a lap time with every car in the game on every track. That would be pretty crazy to implement in GT5. They will probably go with a different model, if it was to be a part of GT5, don't think so!

Leader boards would be cool, but I think there would have to be some sort of filter of times based on the cars used.

It wouldn't really make sense to have a MX-5 and 458 on the same board, would it?

I think there would have to be multiple search/filter fields to implement a good leader board. So you could filter something like the top lap times at Monza for cars with pp between 400 and 500 on sport soft tires in the rain.

That being said, that would be a huge amount of data to be stored, accessed and updated. It could potentially slow down GT5 even more than it is. Each user could end up having 10 to 20 different lap times for one track and if millions of users do the same that is an astronomical amount of data to keep track of.

Nah, I don't think so. Too much strain on the servers (as suggested above) might be the reason.

Yeah this is what I meant. It really isn't that much data. It's only text stored in a database. The hardest bit would be making it so that you could download your friends ghost car laps, but it wouldn't really be that hard. They could just make it so this data is stored locally and transferred between your friends PS3s in the background automatically and/or manually when both PS3s are online. This sounds harder than it is. Have a look at one of your ghost car save files and see how small they are. They could make it so only the best 50 lap times for each track/car are stored on their own servers so if you want to race against them then you can. They do this already.
