Will you buy windows vista when it's relased or will you wait?

Well, I have tried windows vista, and so far I like some parts of it,but, what troubles me is,should I get it when it's finally released or wait for some time, until the initial bugs that might get discovered are fixed.

Also what also troules me is this "trusted computing" thing.

From what I can understand about it,it will reduce some of my freedom of what I can do and install on my computer, and that is something I don't like....

p.s. don't turn this into a Windows vs. Mac vs.Linux battle.

Dude, he asked if you are going to buy vista, not whcih NextGen OS are you look forward to.

Anyways, IF i had the money and another computer as my desktop is a proud user of OSX86 10.4.1, and my lappy is almost dead anyways, i would go out and purcahse vista, even Being a hardcore Pirate (I RLS unlike most) with the whole TCMPMCMPMCTMTPM thing, Im buying it.

The thread I started is more for information on the three operating systems and a place to ask questions about them. So this thread is different enough I suppose.

Anyways, to answer Midnight Runner's question:

If I buy a new PC in the next year or so, then I will have Windows Vista. I probably will never buy it separately.

I use Windows and I am not against XP or Vista, but things like DRM, product keys, malware, and the registry really bother me. Also, the fact that Windows phones home daily to make sure you're running a legit copy has really turned my off Windows recently. The thought of being under Microsoft's watch continuously really worries me.

Same with me. I like my privacy, and the whole Idea of trusted computing sounds a litlle too 1984/Big Brother-ish to me.....

I guess MS is tired of everyone running bootlegged or otherwise free copies of the software they develop. Seems like nobody I ask has paid for a their copy of Office.

As for whether I buy Vista, I'm very interested to see the Aero interface in action, so I will buy Vista when it comes out if I'm still on this pc or if I buy one between then and now. Alternatively, the next computer I buy will have it pre-installed so the question is moot.

I should add too that I "test drover" Office 2007 on their site, the change to tabs for the menus is great and there are a few other features that make Excel much more user friendly. I would definitely upgrade my version of Office from XP Pro.

No, I'm not buying it, ever. I rather have a Vista look than a Vista OS.

Do you mean, you will never buy the retail version. Or you don't plan on ever having it on your computer?

I'm the exact opposite. I'd rather have Vista for security and the minor things they have added, even if I can't have the Aero effects. If you read my post in the 'Vista, Leopard, and Edgy' thread, I pointed out the little things I liked about Vista. You might not notice it in the screenshots, but if you get a chance to use it, it's really huge step up from XP.

I would only get Vista if my computer dies and it has become the default OS for new PCs. As long as my computer works, I see no point in upgrading the OS.

I suppose I wouldn't pay for it, but will have it. I get free Operating Systems from various conferences as it is, and wouldn't be surprised to get a free copy of Vista through one.

I think we'll wait until we buy a bigger, better PC. Just buying it for the ones we have, that already have a few memory problems, would just kill them.

My days of rebuilding a computer just to put a new OS on it are well past! I've been running Vista Beta 2 on a Virtual Machine for a while now, and I like it. I would choose it as the base OS for a new machine, but that's quite hypothetical since I'm not in the new-machine-buying place right now.

With my Technical Architect head on I would say to wait until Vista SP1 is out, and I will be advising my clients as such.

what about DirectX 10?

It wont be available for Xp,unless someone does something about it.....

Also, Vista is apparently going to have better support for 64bit and multi-core systems. However, until such time as i need such support, MS can keep it's OS, and I will keep my $$
