So my question is, will you continue to support Sony when the time comes to purchase the next Playstation, or will you make the change to Microsoft? I myself have lost all trust in Sony.

EDIT: I'm not talking about the product, I'm talking about the online service. My opinion is that the PS3 is better than the 360, but XBOX has better online service. Sony in general makes some of the best electronics in the world, I have a sony camera, 2 tvs, home theater system, PS2, PS3, and possibly a laptop in the future.

I have been a Sony fan since the Walkman and early days of Compact Discs, so I'm not ready to be angry about this little PSN Hiccup and walk away from such a great company and act like they've betrayed me.

I love how this PSN outage has made Microsoft of all companies out to be the good guys.

Honestly, I don't know. I would definitely rather not spend countless amounts of money throughout my entire lifetime just to figure out that the community is a bunch of whiny little brats (and not just the kids). I'd take waiting over that any day. Most likely, I will still play PS3.

So you really mean for the "next" generation of hardware as opposed to more near term hungh. That does make it tougher if only because we have no idea what MS's & Sony's offerings will be in 2-4 years. I know I will stay with Sony until the next round occurs, but like you mentioned in your 1st post that is not the nature of your question.

Guess I will have to go with "not sure." There is just too much time that will pass between now and then. Whatever form the new consoles and online components take I bet you what happened to Sony in the Spring of 2011 will be well down on your list of important considerations by then.

You don't have to spend any money to figure that out, just visit ps3/xbox fan sites or specific game sites like this one.

PC gamming would seem to be the best choice to lessen your chances of that experience.

That's great for a nice unbiased opinion lol.

As long as there are GT games I will buy the next Playstation. I'm of the opinion that my info isn't safe anywhere and that any system or network can be hacked so I won't change or startpaying for live because of that. I don't think I will even get the next XBox as I've regretted getting the 360.

Yeah, why the hell not? This isn't something that Sony deliberately did. If your bank gets robbed do you pull your money out?

Here's the thing; there's a lot of people out there that are acting like this is something new, and it isn't. American Express, Ebay, MasterCard, heck even the New York Yankees have had these problems. This is only the first time it's affected "gamers" on a large scale. It's only "new" to THEM. This isn't the first time, and it isn't going to be the last time. Yes, it's serious, but it's not new.

If anything the people who everyone should be angry at are the criminals who perpetrated this crime. But it's easier to blame the faceless, inhuman, corporation than it is to blame another human being, especially a fellow gamer.

I have both systems so my loyalties lie with whatever game I choose to play on a specific day lol. This outage has been good for me honestly. Sure it sucks to not be able to play GT5, but I have ranked up to level 17 on Gears 2 and I am trying to get the hang of Dead Space 2 online, both obviously on the 360.

edit: CaptainAlbator, I recognize your psn from the Sony forums, specifically the Gran Turismo forum.

As I recognize yours. I have to be honest, and this is not in anyway a suck up, but the tone here on GTPlanet is a lot more civil. I guess the age range has a lot to do with it.

This and the active participation of quality Moderators very much helps keep posters respectful. 👍

I agree with you. I originally joined up at the Sony forums to talk about Black Ops but I quickly found out that the age and maturity level on that particular board were way lower than anything I imagined. I'm glad I bought GT5 and found the GT forum at Sony. Lot's of cool people there. This site though is cool too. Way more active and lot's of interesting threads everywhere you look.

I have both, but in the future I dont see myself getting the next xbox that comes out, but I will get the next Play station that comes out. Grand Turismo is the only game that I play that is console specific.

NTG2011 forums are really bad, it is full of whiny and rude users, no matter what you say about the game, good or bad, you get called either a troll or a fanboy or you work for the developer , and whats sad is the forum is run by the game developer .

Answer to OP: Yes, I will continue to support them... Not going to leave just because of PSN being down...

I don't see why people shouldn't keep supporting Sony. The attack was, after all, carried out by people looking for personal information. They're very good at gaining access to things like PSN when they want to.

I didn't like any of the options so I didn't tick anything. I game on PS3 and I like it. But it has little to do with loyalty. If someone gave me a 360 I would probably go find the good exclusives on that and play them. And Bayonetta since that port was too horrid to get on PS3. I think people keep making a big fuss about a bump on the road.

Edit: And I'd like to add that GTPlanet is the best forum around. Nice people, interesting threads and familiar faces although one has been gone fishing for a while 👍 :dopey:

And it has the best smilies too :dunce:👍:grumpy:💡:guilty::yuck::sick::indiff::nervous: lol

I will support Sony. I however will not be putting a credit card out there again. It will most likely be one of those PS cards for me going forward. I think they could have handled this whole hack better (from an information and PR standpoint), but I don't see why I should dump a console and all my games due to an outage. I have been happy with the console and the games for the system, and imagine I will continue too. If this adversly affects development and the pipeline of games, then maybe I will check out the 360. I however don't have $300 plus costs of the games to spend on a comparable system.

The PSN outage isn't a bother to me. As long as SCE keeps making systems and games that interest me and that I enjoy playing, I'll continue supporting them.

Understandable. But I think the opposite: after this there surely will be no reason for me not to have my creditcard details there. After this scare they will make sure it won't happen again. Like the new finance banker that lost $30 000 on a stupid trade. He asks his boss "will I get fired now?" and hit boss answers "why should I fire you, I just spent $30 000 educating you".

I will still support them, but my support and respect will be greatly lower for Sony. I've been enjoying my time playing minecraft and iRacing. Had not played iRacing for a few months and remembered how much fun it was. When online comes back up I'll still play Black Ops, Bad Company 2, Gt5 and Shift 2. But I wont be buying as much as did prior to all of this.

It really shouldn't take a month to fix online service. A tad ridiculous. Like I realize they are trying to make it hack proof or whatever. But it's going to be hacked again, I guarantee it.

As soon as the Xbox 720 is out I will be moving across to Microsoft.

I will keep my PS3 but wont ever buy any other console that Sony release.

I never supported Sony in the first place. Didn't support Microsoft either, though, or any other company for that matter.
I've always bought whatever product appealed to me the most, whether it happened to be branded as a Sony, Microsoft or whatever product. And I'll continue to act like that.

If the PS4 strikes a chord with me, I'll get it. Same for the next Xbox. I'll get whichever I like better and the other one will have to be pretty good as well to make me get both consoles at the start of the generation.

I'm only supporting myself, simple as that :sly: So, who ever is offering me the best stuff for my money gets it, PSN outage or no.

This won't affect my support for Sony. I have multiple Sony devices in the home and most of them were replacements for other branded products which turned out to be a waste of money. I feel like I've spent my cash well when I purchase Sony products. As far as the breach, Both myself and my wife's bank cards were compromised with fraudulent charges in the last few weeks. NOT Psn related, the wife's info was not used for PSN. Your personal info and credit card info can be acquired in many ways so I don't see why I would lose trust in Sony. The only way to really be safe is to not have cards, period. That would make life a little more complicated than just filling out the paperwork at the bank for reimbursement though.

Since every thing Microsoft I used has failed me or not work to well Sony will always be my bra.

Micro$ has taken more than it's share of my dough through it's over priced software which i have to update every couple of years for even more dough ... arrggghhh.

If only my wife can learn to use linux ... :)

Now on the other hand my sony receiver/amp has not had any problems for the past 13 years, I'm waiting for it to croak so i can get a new one. Same goes for most of my sony products.

This is a lesson for Sony and other companies out there not to be complacent, and i hope a lesson to the culprits as well and do some hard time, not just probation.

I almost wasn't going to post since everyone was agreeing until a few posts up.

I'll support Sony by continuing to be a customer. Loved my PS2 when I had it college (my first DVD player as well). I made a switch to Xbox strictly for Halo/Halo 2 which is still a great series. But went back to PS3 for the next console purchase.

My Sony CRT, PS2, LCD, and PS3 were and are great products. I have had no issue with Sony.

Might also be silly but the controller is a big deal to me as well. B/C of the Xbox controllers, I'm limited to what games I can play on it. That being said, I'm not a huge FPS guy. I've always loved the playstation controllers

Since the first PlayStation I've been in the Sony realms of gaming. It started with Gran Turismo and here I am now( 1 original, 3 PS2's, 1PSP and a b/c 500gig PS3 phatty). Never got into online until recently, so not too big of a deal for me yet. Its not so much loyalty as I like their stuff better.

Well, as far as reliability goes, I'm not too convinced of Sony products. Some are holding up well, others broke rather fast... I've been through four (!) PS2s, which all went belly up way too fast. Same for headphones.
My mp3-Walkman is still going strong after a good two years...

Anyways, Microsoft, Sony... Not much of a difference, in my opinion. Both are after my money and my money alone.
