For those of you who haven’t yet heard, eighties mega-hit Knight Rider is making a return to the small screen, bringing with it the wise-cracking, smooth-talking, tractor trailer-jumping, sentient supercar, K.I.T.T.

But this time around, K.I.T.T. won’t spend his days encased in the form of a third-generation black Pontiac Firebird. No, the new K.I.T.T. has jumped from General Motors to Ford and picked up about 300 horsepower in the process.

The motorheads over at Jalopnik have managed to not only confirm from an inside source that the new Knight will be riding in a Shelby GT500KR Mustang, but they have the photos to prove it. Black with a pair of silver racing stripes, the new K.I.T.T. looks like a good fit for the 21st century, especially now that we see he kept his trademark oscillating red light bar.

So much about that classic TV-series.. Poor K.I.T.T... rest in peace.. :( because as a fix or repair daily there won't be an episode without a malfunction. :ouch::grumpy::mad::irked::banghead:

👎 Its a cool car, so I don't see why there's anything wrong with it.

Also, GM doesn't seem to be making a Firebird anymore, so where else would they go? Hoff couldn't fit in a Solstice either, and a 4 door K.I.T.T. would've been odd.

they could had used WS6 Trans Am. that would have been more suitable looking car, and kept the tradition going. wouldn't you cry out loud if General Lee would have been a Dodge SRT-4 in the latest Dukes-movie?

Should have waited for the Camaro to come out. Although the car does look cool. I'd watch just because there is no other TV show with a car as a main character and to see what kind of crap they put this ride through.

Using an SRT-4 is a bit much for comparison. At least they kept it going with a muscle car.

They don't need to wait for the Camaro, they just didn't want to feature a Camaro.
Fact: Transformers featured a Camaro.
Night Rider could have done the same but I'm willing to bet the producers went to GM and Ford and Ford made the best offer.

Personally, I'm not impressed. :indiff:
I bet the show is a flop and it will probably do nothing for Mustang sales. :ouch:

This is an outrage!

The Camaro is best suited for the role of KITT, not some bloody Ford!

Too bad. I liked the show, but this car looks a bit weird for the show, but oh well.

:yuck: :yuck: :yuck:

Can't they just leave Knight Rider alone?

My sentiments exactly.

God, I hope Hoff's not involved at his age...

and, honestly, the GT500 is better than the...Koenigsegg? Why even that? Yeah, my hopes are not high for remakes of old shows.

By the way...

wouldn't you cry out loud if General Lee would have been a Dodge SRT-4 in the latest Dukes-movie?

It might as well have been. that movie was horrible.

I can't say that I'm hugely surprised, but then again, there isn't much out there that they would have wanted to wait for. My guess is that they skipped the Camaro because that is obviously Bumblebee from Transformers, and the G8 wouldn't have worked because of the extra doors.

Honestly, the Sky would have been perfect, but oh well...

Now just wait for the new

2009 LIMITED K.I.T.T EDITION MUSTANG
+3k for a red sticker on the hood

👎 Wow, this is so wrong on so many levels.
Hell couldn't they at least used a Solstice GXP or even a GTO?!

Problem is that we don't even have a Monaro yet, which means no GTO in time for the TV show (which I assume this is what the Mustang is for...). Maybe if the movie project keeps rolling, we may see a GM car back in the saddle for that (given that they are independent projects).

Haven't you ever seen "Knight Rider?" That won't work on K.I.T.T.

The best idea would be to find the Original K.I.T.T. and have him throw down on this faker. Gen III F-body FTW.

Agreed. I'm sick and tired of seeing Mustangs every 15 seconds on the road. I'm saddened that they chose such a common car. I know it's a GT500KR, but it's still a stupid Mustang.

A GTO would have been much better. Even a Soltice/Sky, which I'm not big fans of anyhow.

I'm disappointed.

Honestly, the Sky would have been perfect, but oh well...
A Sky? Are you serious? Yeah, lets use a Saturn for this. If you're going to suggest a car like that then say Solstice GXP, never Saturn. I like the Sky, but for it to be K.I.T.T., it's a no go for me.

And what are you talking about with the Monaro. Why couldn't they just use the GTO we have now. They're basically the same car right now. Or is there a new Monaro coming out?

The body lines of the Sky Red Line, particularly in the front, has all the right spaces for KITT's red LED light, and the bonus is that its still a GM product. Sure, the GXP would have made more sense, it being a Pontiac and all, but I guess it didn't make that big of a difference to me as long as the car looked "right."

And what are you talking about with the Monaro. Why couldn't they just use the GTO we have now. They're basically the same car right now. Or is there a new Monaro coming out?

The GTO went out of production last year, there wouldn't have been any reason to use the car. The new Monaro, assuming that it does happen, likely won't debut (at the earliest) until the Melbourne Intl. Auto Show in February, unless of course GM jumps the gun and debuts the GTO in Detroit or Chicago beforehand.

Basically, for there to be a GTO there first must be a Monaro. With Zeta production still waiting to kick-on in Ontario, G8 production likely to remain in Australia indefinitely (along with wagon variant), and the continuing wait on the Impala, Park Avenue, and Cadillac twins... Its hard to say when exactly the Monaro debut will happen.

...Lest we forget about the Alpha chassis as well...

Just no. Even ignoring the fact that Knight Rider should be purely F-Body based, and that there are more Ford Mustang variations out now than there are models in Ford's portfolio, there are so many better cars that they could have used in the role that look so much more suited to the role.
Quite frankly, the Mustang is far too tall looking and lumpy to pull it off effectively. And older Mustang, maybe, but not the current one.

I like the lightbar--I wonder how long it will take for someone to mod their own GT500 with that.

Get that stupid stereo-type nonsense out of here. You lost points with me. You don't like the fact that KITT is going to be a Mustang fine, but don't go off half-cocked and say some obvious rubbish about how Fords fall apart and this and that. Your opinion and comment clearly has zero thought involved.

+1 on the WS6, I dont' care if its 5~6 years dead I'd still do it. Honstly, this is my favorite looking GM car since the C3 Corvette...

That has got to be the most angry aggressive American car design ever..it just wants to eat your children.

I actually would of been fine with them just using an old-school 3rd gen Trans-Am just like the original show and just updating the drivetrain to the LS2 with the 4L80E auto.

For some reason I missed that this was for a tv show...

The producers do realize they are beating a dead.. erm I mean bringing back a Knightrider right? You know... Firebird...? :odd:

I love that they use one of the least technologically advanced cars on the market to represent k.i.t.t.

and what was advanced about the Firebird at the time, eh? Knight Rider's pilot was in '82, when the Firebird still had a Carb. the Buick Turbo mill, arguably the most advanced engine in the Gen III, wasn't installed until '87

Yeah, but what else on the road looked like a Firebird in '82?

Someone drew the original lines for the 2005 Mustang in, uh, 1962.

I don't think the movie team is trying hard enough. There must be something out there on the horizon of the US Domestic market which will benefit (if the movie doesn't suck.)

C6 Corvette? Blue Devil version? How about that prototype Saleen?
