Today I turned on my PC, my user image was fine, but when I logged on, Windows 7 appears to have reset itself. The desktop is set to default, all my "gadgets" aren't on the desktop, and nor are most of my desktop shortcuts. Upon finding Google Chrome when I open it has disregarded all of my user settings. All my files don't come up when I open my documents. However, they do when I go C/users/user. I think it's just an issue with my "Libraries" and it's just moved my docs/pics/music. But it's always best to get a second opinion.

Could someone please tell me why the PC actually may have done this?

There has always been a folder there. But it hasn't been modified since April.

I've just noticed something interesting though. The file path when I take the long way to my files is example: "C:\Users\user\Downloads" Which is just as it should be. However, if I enter Downloads in any other way. It says "C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\Downloads." Now I don't think that is normal.

I think the computer has just changed its paths for some reason. For now I've just changed the file paths back to normal. However, that only works for "Downloads"

Can you take a screenshot of: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

and post it here?

Alright. Well I got to Currentversion. And then there isn't a Profile List. I'm not sure whether I'm looking for a program for Profilelist, or a folder. But there isn't one for either. Under P there is ProgramFilesDir (along with an X86 version), ProgramFilesPath, and ProgramW6432Dir.

It's in the registry.

Just looked for mine and its not there?

You could try to go Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools then services see if you "User Profile Service" started?

Look here instead. :)

If you have pdf on your computer you could try this link:

Well I'm pretty sure I have all the necessary files there. I have all the same files as you. I should probably try that method in the other link.

TBH this does sound a lot more like a registry issue then a libraries problem. In fact I'd be shocked & amazed if it's not a registry issue.

THere is a 98% chance that you're right. I'm just backing up my files before trying too much.

Edit: Good news, it turns out that my PC saved a restore date just 4 days ago, and the system restore worked, and now everything is fully functional again.

Becareful when messing with the registry.

I fix the user profile service error a fair bit at work, but i will never advise people how do to do it over the phone or in a forum.
One mistake and boom, nothing works.

^ Fortunately I've learned that the good way. By reading it. :cheers;

Yeah, I read that yesterday when looking for solutions. It's absolutely mandatory to make a backup. The problem first occured completely on its own accord. But now I have a quick way to fix the problem. I just need to have my PC save a restore point once every week.
