Windows problem. Need help.

About half an hour ago I was playing a game on my PC when it suddenly crashed. Upon restarting I found that the PC is fine if I look at my desk top or the app screen as it is windows 8. However if I try and open a programme, even an internet browser the screen will either go black or the PC will restart itself so I can't do anything. If I look at the desktop its fine though so I doubt its hardware related.
This question is being posted via my PS3 before you ask.
Edit. Don't worry I tried a system restore and the thing black screened so now I have no choice but to start from scratch as windows now won't start.

Don't worry it seems to have been fixed now. I had to wait for an hour of black screen and windows doing various things but it seems to be ok.

I will leave this open just in case it goes wrong again.
