Microsoft will end supporting XP in the very near future.

I'm still working with windows XP, 32-bit and was wondering if I'm going to get problems with the internet and certain programmes in the near future?

It seems that I'm already experiencing problems with certain fora and fora functions, like clicking on forum buttons, uploading photobucket photo links, getting page errors from time to time etc... . I used ccleaner and it seems to be better. Are these XP support problems I'm experiencing?
 
No.

The end of support just means microstupid will no longer provide security updates for XP.

If you wanted to you could install Windows 98, download the updates from the site and use it.

I would say your system is a bit dodgy.
 
Maybe a HDD or memory problem?

I have HD tune en memtest86. Is it worth while spending all that time testing the HDD and RAM?

Is that what you mean with dodgy => HDD and RAM problems or is it software problems?
 
Security updates end on April 8th 2014 for XP with SP3(Service Pack 3). It will just mean that XP will be unsecure after the updates stop and maybe 5 years down the line they will stop making software for it(Amazing really. Due to the fact a lot of businesses still use XP to this day).
 
Ok, good news.

I don't need to spend money on a new OS. But this also means that I won't be able to play the newest race games. Oh well.
 
My school still uses XP (An unlicensed version though :lol: ), and I have no problems accessing GTP except that all images appear as red X's. It's most likely the school filter.
 
I don't know that the end of security updates means XP will be unsafe either. XP has been around for so long, and had so much battle testing and security updates, that it may be more secure than a newer less tested OS like Win 7 or 8.
 
I hope you're right. I'm not about to change my OS. As long as XP is fully functional and I'm able to do what I always did with it, I'm sticking with XP.
 
I wouldn't worry about it. As Dan said, there's years and years of fixing security issues.

I have a laptop running XP, all I use it for is school (MS Office) so I don't mind still being on XP. I want a more lightweight OS, and that's the main value of XP to me at this point; a basic no nonsense OS that runs on poverty-spec hardware.

Could always install Puppy Linux or Damn Small Linux if you want a small as a OS as possible for older hardware. However Ubuntu Linux works well for most old computers. Much more secure in the future than to keep running XP.

Yes but office on linux is a joke (still). That and game support are the major outstanding problems with linux.

(For disclosure, I own 2 linux computers and one router running linux, and I'm looking to add a 3rd linux machine)
 
Changing OS in the near future or not? I'll cross that bridge when the situation presents itself. For now, I'm still quite happy with XP.
 
I would say that if you have the money, buy a new PC that has Windows 7 Professional. It has XP mode so you can continue your XP experience while having secure updates with Windows 7.

Though I can't understand why you are sticking with XP over something with lighter resources and has a better ease of use curve like Windows 7.

Plain and simple; my father. :D

It took me a veeeeerrrryyy long time to learn him to use the basic functions of a computer and XP. Moving a desktop shortcut is enough to creat a huge problem for him. I don't know how he's going to react if I install 7 or 8.1.
I know that you can make the desktop of 7 to look like XP.

And why spending money on another OS if XP is good enough for the things I do with a computer?

It's not that old, 2010 Thinkpad and an Intel Core 2 Duo processor. It's not that ancient that I need the absolute lowest weight OS, but with Windows 7 or 8 it would be more sluggish.

And this. Not so much the games as the office, as virtually everything I do at school is centered around MS Office. Don't care so much about gaming on my laptop because I have my desktop running Windows 8 where I do all my gaming.
